EVERYONE!! (early start to Monday Randoms)
Hello everyone. I'm back from vacation. I will have to do a short vacation recap in another post.
I liked all the (Name!!!) references in the various randoms. It was also nice to see Adrea and others pop in.
Congrats to Wop! Sounds like L&D delivery went very smooth. GRSP, I hope your recovery is going smoothly.
GRKaters - what did you decide on for the shower?
Re: EVERYONE!! (early start to Monday Randoms)
GRWendy - I saw your post about your sister's babyshower. While getting her another gift isn't needed, it would be kind of cool if you sent along some books you both liked as kids. There are a lot of Golden books from when I was growing up and they bring back good memories. I think it would be sweet to pick out a few for her. Just a suggestion.
Oh, yeah.
The shower is at...
my house.

Are you charging a room rental fee?
Hope it goes well. THanks for the info on Robinettes. That will come in handy for Mia's b-day sometime. I hate to have to rent somewhere, but with a mid-Oct b-day, I think we are going to have to break down and do that every few years for her "big" birthdays where we do a party, rather than having two celebrations for each of our families.
Yay for vacations, gvsu! Hope you all had a lot of fun.
GRKaters, I did not see that coming. Boo.
I said they had to help me clean before and after. NO WAY am I getting the house ready on my own.

Welcome back GVSU.
Katers: That totally sucks. I feel bad for ya. My SIL has the problem where everyone wants to do get togethers and "partys" at her place and she has 2 kids under 4. No one ever offers to come early and help clean.
I'm up early today trying to get used to the idea that I have to start doing with 5 days a week with school starting again next week for SS. I just naturally woke up this time. I have to get up so I can drive SS to my parents house so he can catch the bus at 6:30am. I never had to be up that early for school. ugh!
Anybody know someone that rode out Hurricane Irene? My BFF in NJ got lots of wind and rain. Her street flooded. I'll try and post a pic of link to some of her FB pics of the morning after.
Here are two pics for BFF's FB of the aftermath of Irene for her and her parents.
She is standing where she normally parks her car in the street.
This is her StepDad's Mustang in the road.
Welcome back, GVSU!
GRKaters, sorry to hear about the most recent development in the shower planning saga. I hope it works out well.
Deeder, neat pictures.
I'm home sick today. Still dealing with a migraine that I got on Saturday night.
aww, sorry your not feeling good but glad to "see" you again. I was just thinking of you yesterday.
Oh my word. I'm so sorry. Good for you for putting your foot down on the cleaning. That's very smart.
Today is my first full day of classes and the first day the entire law school is back. "They" say it's like high school all over again and it totally is. For example, most of the 1Ls have massive backpacks full of tons of huge books.
I also managed to snag a locker, which is awesome because my backpack will only hold enough books for two classes (I have five classes in total). Having a locker means I don't need to walk out to my car if I need to prepare for more than two classes.
Who knew I'd be so excited to have a locker?!
The back end of my car has been looking like a low-rider the past few days, so I figured I needed new shocks soon. Ughhh, I hate spending money on my car.
H took it in this morning to have it checked out, and then texted me "Your car has no shocks" and "You're going to need to get another job."
What? Ughhhh.
Then he called and told me he was kidding, that my car has an air compression shock system, and that it's fixed and was free. I guess the car place put in a new fuse, turned the ignition, and watched the system fill back up with air. Wee!
Yay, good luck today!
We have good friends in Viriginia Beach, NYC and the DC area - they're all safe, power's back on and with zero or minimal damage. Thank goodness!
(flameful?) Confession: H is in 4 (four!!!) fantasy football leagues this year. I told him to enjoy it because next year he is only allowed to be in 2. And yes, those were my exact words.
I was kind of surprised he didn't respond, "Yes, mother." Ha.
Diana, I didn't know they had lockers at law school! Neat.
Molly, glad to hear that your car had a quick fix. What a relief! My H is in two fantasy leagues. He had one of his drafts yesterday. Big deal, ya know.
LOL, I would have done the same thing.
L plays an online game that can be a major time suck. He was playing on Thursday night (which I knew he would be), but I was home after nearly a week away and wanted to spend some time with him. He was supposed to be done playing around midnight and when his game went over by 15 minutes, I proceeded to act like a two year old, whined, and stormed off to bed. I told him in the future if I get to come home on a day where he's regularly scheduled to play, he needs to make arrangements to not play
We spent an obscene amount of money on one of our cars this year. Like, some used cars don't cost as much as we spent (some of it was regular maintenance and things like new tires), some of it was unexpected (two wheel bearings, a control arm bushing, etc.).
Our service consultant said it's like investing in our own used car and that made me feel better. If this beast gets me through school without any added expenses, we'll be thrilled.
Argh... I'm having one of those days where I feel like I'm just spinning my wheels. I've hardly gotten anything accomplished today that I wanted too. I've actually been trying to get stuff done (you'll notice that I've hardly been online!), but other things keep popping up that need immediate attention, I've had meetings, etc. And now the day is almost over, and I feel like I haven't accomplished anything. Grrr...
(No point to this post other than I felt the need to vent.)
2 wheel bearings? Yuck, those are expensive!
Ahh. We are having a similar year with my car. In May, we spent about $1,200 on it for new tires and a new wheel bearing. It's not a TON of money, but damn that's a really fun weekend in Chicago.
So I wasn't looking forward to dumping more money for new shocks. Yay for good news for once.
Definitely yay that your shocks didn't cost anything! That is a fantastic surprise for sure.
Yeah, one wheel bearing went out and L googled how often this happens in our model year vehicle (he likes to do these things) and discovered that ~100K miles, wheel bearings were known to go bad. So we got the one replaced. A short time later, probably around 2-3 months later, but in my recollection it seems like just days, the car was making a funny noise. Turns out it was the other wheel bearing. LOL.
Ultimately we were glad to get the bad wheel bearings done and over with before I started to and from Detroit every week (and before we went down to one income). Learning to see the bright side I suppose...
The bride-to-be only gave MIL a list of 7 names, so that sounds do-able... as long as MIL doesn't invite 20 of her own pals, too! I think at this point we're looking at 15, max. I hope.

Kasa, sorry that you're having a wheels spinning kind of day. Hopefully today's spinning wheels will set you up for a very productive week ahead.
