  • Tomorrow I'm going wedding dress shopping with my sister.  It's wierd to think that she's going to get married.  I just can't wrap my arms around it.

    Yes

  • GRSP, how many kids ended up in Willa's class?

I'm surviving.  There's really no other way to describe it for now.  It's hard, but exciting.  Tiring, but thrilling.  Every day, every week, feels so long right now.  I do feel like just this week I'm starting to hit some sort of stride, though.  I got my crap organized, I'm starting to learn my way around the buildings, I've got myself into what feels like a good workout routine, I've learned some mistakes I'd been making and am working at correcting them, and am just trying to work a little harder, trying to put in all of the hours.

  • I leave on Tuesday for a conference in Savannah, GA. I'll be gone till Friday. I haven't been away from Brielle for more thank 30 hours. This is going to be tough! At the same time I'm super excited about going to Savannah!

That'll be fun. Have you ever been there?

  • Moms and teachers, congratulations on your 1st week of school.

I think I am going to need to work on teaching J tolerance.  He seems to think people in glasses are hilarious looking.  Smile

  • Congrats to everyone who survived a first week of school!  Teachers, kids and parents. :-)

MissyNa - Hope your conference flies by and your back with Bri in no time.

DP - Glad you checked in and that you're keeping your head above water for the time being.  It sounds like you're starting to settle in.

Chymes - Time for a visit to the eye doc for a new prescription?

AMEN Sista!  UGH...I hate my eyes.

To go along with what Mira said....N thinks grabbing glasses are a ton of fun.  Wait until J gets to that point.  Really 'fun".  Cute that he laughs at people in glasses though.Smile

  • If I survive the 4.5 months without having some sort of a breakdown, it will be a miracle.  I have way too many events to plan and it's making my head whirl.

Also, I've decided that I deserve a pumpkin spice latte at lunch.

Uh, yeah.  I know the feeling.  Trust me.  I've uttered the same thoughts on more than one occassion.

If your eyes are feeling very tired and sore, it's possible that they could be overly dry.  That's what happened to mine -- they were just super sore, and I never realized that it was because they were critically dry until they were in really bad shape.

Get thee to an optometrist.  You shouldn't have to suffer with sore eyes.  They should be able to help in one way or another.

I've been using special eye drops my eye dr. recommended twice a day, morning and night, to combat both the allergies and the calluses that are forming inside my eyelids due to my contacts. I was at the eye doctor three times this summer trying to get to the bottom of this, and that's what she came up with. But some days the drops help, and some days they don't. Pretty much my doctor said the only thing that will make the bumps go away for good is to not wear contacts...and, well, that just isn't an option for me for several reasons. Ugh, I hate this.

Kasa, you go to a doctor named Kenyon, right? Or something close to that? I bookmarked a thread with a bunch of eye dr. suggestions, but the Nest won't find it for me right now. A second opinion might not hurt.

  • Just got back from a week of helping my sister and her husband and 3 year old daughter move back to Michigan from Idaho. It was a ton of fun, believe it or not. DH and I drove the moving truck and my mom and sister and BIL and niece rode in their car. 1820 miles covering 7 states.

Yes, that sounds a lot like what I went through in 2008.  I also had the calluses on my eyelids.  My optometrist at the time tried to treat them with a myriad of drops, but they weren't getting better.  And the bumps were bad enough, that they rotated my contacts, which made seeing even more difficult.

After months of frustration, I decided I needed to see a specialist, so I went to Verdier Eye Center -- opthalmologists who specialize in cornea issues.  They told me in no uncertain terms that I had to quit wearing contacts.  They also dertmined that my eyes were way too dry, and started treating the dry eys and gave me steroids for the bumps.  When I first went there, I couldn't wear glasses either -- my eyes hurt way too much, and my vision was very poor.  But as soon as they started treating the dryness, I could suddenly wear glasses.  It was a miracle!  (I don't know why you can't wear glasses, so I don't know if this pertains to you or not.)

I'm still not happy that I have to wear glasses the majority of the time, but I've accepted it.  My comfort and vision is much improved with glasses, and that's what's most important.

Based on my experience, I think you should get a second opinion, whether it's from another optometrist, or an opthalmalogist.

And yes, for my optometrist, I now see Dr. Jeffrey Kenyon at West Michigan Eye Associates.  My doctor at Verdier recommended him and I love him.  He's a general optometrist, but he also has a specialty in one of the other, underlying eye problems that I have, so that's a bonus for me.

Let me know if you want to talk about this further.  I know just how maddening this sort of thing can be.  Good luck!

GRSP, how many kids ended up in Willa's class?

I don't know.  When she lines up for the bell, there are 12-15 other kids in line with her.  That doesn't include the bussed kids, and I don't know how many that is.  Willa is a zombie this week, and doesn't know how many kids are in the class.

I think in the middle of the next week - when things are not as insane at the school - I'll see if I can talk with the teacher for a few minutes before school.  Right now I'm feeling really disconnected from what's going on there.  Trying to be an involved parent blended with a patient and not overbearing parent is tricky.

  • When already irritable, I wouldn't recommend calling United Airlines, getting lost in their auto-menu hell, and then eventually ending up in India.

    Super Angry

I think I have my flights straightened out now.  They ever so kindly changed our itinerary, and the new itiernary didn't make any sense.  They had us on two different flights departing GRR -- one to Cleveland and one to O'Hare.  Uh, what?

And now, off to get my latte.  Coffee

  • I think about callused eyelids and cringe for you both.  Ow.

  • We are almost finished with our Christmas shopping for the girls. We are going to get them this http://shop.leapfrog.com/leapfrog/?utm_source=msn&utm_medium=ppc&utm_term=leap%20frog&utm_campaign=Core%20Brand as a combined big gift.It will be the closest thing to an IPad  our house will see for a while. I will probably order them some books from their Scholastic book club at daycare and save some books for a Christmas present.

Last year Brian got a gift card for his work anniversary, so we are hoping he gets another so we can buy it with that.  Otherwise we will use CC reward points.

On our way home from date night last week, we stopped off at Target and found some items in the dollar bin, so we got a good start on stocking stuffer. We will probably pick up a few candy/food treats closer to Christmas and call it good.

Pretty much everything we got for them was on clearance and we really didn't  get that much for them either.

  • I also picked up a aerator for Brian last week. I have to think of a few more things for him. He is tough to shop for.

    Craziness!

  • so my boss wants me to form a committee for my big event at work..a 10-15 person committee!!  I don't know how I could possibly break up job duties to go between 10-15 people. I don't know how we could attract that many people to the committee.

Kasa - want to quit your group and join my group. I won't make you come out here for any meetings.  You could help me with the food - figure out where to get it from, solict donations, etc.

Anyone want to sit on the Wine committee? You can go wine tasting with me, figure out how much wine and what kind to order for the bar, and for the silent auction.

My last trip had an incident like that.  Our cruise got cancelled so we rebooked another cruise and had to change our flights.  Frontier completely F'd up our reservvations.  They had my husband leaving from MSP and me from GRR with a connection in MSP that left before my flight from GRR left! It took a lot of time on the phone with a customer rep before everything was figured out.  I wish I could be more assertive at times and get free stuff for when I have to waste my time because of their mistakes.  But in the end I'm always just happy that my problem got corrected and that's enough to satisfy me.

  • I just peeked onto the D&R board for a minute.  I noticed that someone who drives me crazy on the (totally controversal) Gardening board is there too.  I backed out immediately.

I just bought the game Operation at Target.  It's on sale for $12.  I got a $4 coupon at www. family game night dot com.  AND we got a free frozen pizza too.  $8 for a game and pizza.  Nice.  I accidently printed 2 coupons, so I left the other one on the shelf next to the game.  I'm like the coupon fairy today.

  • I'm on my lunch hour - can you tell?

My work to do list is crazy long. Vacation and a long holiday weekend didnt' help. My boss is talking about moving me back to five days a week (not at least until 2013 due to budget).  I really don't want to go to 5 days, this one day off allows me to do things like doctors appointment, spend time with kids, and hopefully volunteer  at their school when they start. So I have to make sure I'm extra efficent. Although having health insurance again  would be nice.
