Allison & Stephanie - Thanks for the tips! That's what DH and I were talking about today. We're still probably 1+ years away from TTC, but it's something to think about when benefit times rolls around again next October.

That's what I'm dealing with right now.  I have insurance, but DH has really great insurance through his job.  So, we're going to enroll me on his insurance in October so if/when we TTC, we are prepared.

Next question, does anyone know what happens when you are covered by two insurance policies as far as co-pays, deductibles, etc?

I can answer this since I worked with insurance at my last job.  :-)  You will have one that is your primary (which would likely be the one through your work) and then his would be secondary.  So it would be filed with your primary first and then through your secondary if the doctor/hospital you go to actually files to both.  If not, then it will just go to your first and then you could submit that claim to the secondary insurance.  Does that make sense?

  • Yes, that makes sense, but which co-pay and/or deductible kicks in?  Meaning, when I go see the doctor for check ups, which carrier takes the bill?  Do I still pay a co-pay or would that be covered by the secondary?

    Insurance is hard.  :)

The one for your primary insurance.  So if the doctor doesn't deal with secondary, you would pay the co-pay/deductible for your insurance through your job.  The co-pay would likely be covered by the secondary, but if the doctor doesn't file secondary, you would still have to pay it and then be reimbursed when you file with the secondary.

Yes, insurance is annoying :-p  I know way too much about it now, but its surprisingly useful knowledge!

  • Re: insurance--

Make sure to look at both of your policies to chart the best course of action. If his is really good, you may want to drop yours (that is if you pay premiums on your own) to avoid having to file things yourself. I know that with mine, I only paid a co-pay for my very first prenatal visit, and then never paid another dollar until after the hospital billed my birth co-pay. If he has a plan similar to that, it may not make sense to continue paying premiums to your own policy.

  • Here we don't take co-pays for patient's with two insurances. Since we file with both we just see what both coverages pay and then bill the patient. One of my co-workers did this because she has all kinds of medical issues. She said it cost her more in the long run since she had to met the DED and OOP for both insurances. If she had just used ours she would have only had to cover the DED and OOP for our insurance and then our insurance would have covered her 100% after. You really want to look at the plans and see exactly what the maternity benefits are. Not just office visit or hospital. Most will have one seperate just for maternity.

Mine is 100% paid by my company... but the coverage isn't the best since we're a small company.

Ugh, back to researching!  I wish this stuff came with an "Insurance for Dummies" book.

  • Dear Texas,

While I understand the cost of living is much cheaper here, I brought a lot of bills from California with me. I need to be making the same amount of money. These $9 -$10 an hour jobs just aren't cutting it. I'm going to have to work 3 jobs to make what I was making.

    Love,

    My Broke Ass

    Dear Potential Jobs,

Please just give me a chance. I'm a hard worker and I learn quickly. Does my college degree really mean nothing?

My degree is in Hospitality Management. I'm looking for something in event sales, event coordinating, catering sales. I'm honestly looking for anything that will hire me and pay more than $10/hr at this point.

  • I didn't want to quote the whole thing, and think I may have messed something up, but in reference to the looking for a job post -

I'm not sure who you've looked at so far, but I just did a quick search on indeed.com and it looks like the Gaylord, Fairmont Dallas, the W and Marriott are all hiring.  ClubCorp is headquartered here and manages tons of the country clubs in the area - they typically have several openings as well.  Omni is scheduled to open a new hotel in downtown Dallas near the conference center, and is also headquartered in Irving - have you looked at their site?

And I know it isn't what you're looking for, but if you really just need the extra money, you might look into catering  (I worked for Two Sisters and they paid pretty well, but you could go over the Knot board and look at the vendor site to see tons of caterers in the area).

Thanks! I have applied with Gaylord, Marriott, Westin, Hilton and the W. I will check out ClubCorp and Omni.

I have looked into some catering positions, but nothing came of those either. And I should look into more.

    Thanks again for the advice.

Also, I know it's a little of a drive but there's also the Worthington in Downtown FW.
