Re: SA Wednesday
I know you won't see this until later but did you have good results with 30DS?
There so much sadness on the GP board the past couple of days. I have been lurking over there but have really backed off on posting.
I'm so glad everyone enjoyed the premieres of New Girl and Raising Hope last night. It makes me excited to watch them, even though it'll probably be Friday before I can sit down and do it.
In other news... I got a wedding invitation today from my "most significant ex". I'm happy where I am, confident in my decision, and all that, but still, I find myself getting choked up over it. It's just strange, I think. I'm happy for him, but very glad I have an excuse not to attend.
My best friend's "most significant ex" is getting married in October. Unfortunately, she is not in a relationship or even close to finding one so it was horrible for her to receive the invite. I have no idea how to help her. I think if you truly cared for someone and the gloss over the bad parts that time has a habit of applying is in full force, it is natural to feel a little wistful.
So true!
This made me wonder if any of you do the same thing as me... I never look up ex's ( the few significant ones, not the silly HS romances) on FB or anything like that, but every now and then I wonder where life has taken them. I love my DH and know I am with the right guy, but I can't help but think about where they ended up or what they are doing. With all of that, I hate stalking people in FB/Linked in, etc and won't do it. Anyone else?

Why would they send her an invite? :-/

I dated a lot. A LOT. And most of those people, I don't keep up with or have any interest in keeping up with. But my two most significant exes, I've stayed pretty close to. We actually double date with one of my ex boyfriends and his long-term girlfriend. I've always been of the opinion that I loved that person for a reason, and there's no reason the friendship can't remain. Especially if it was a relatively civil breakup.
This ex that's getting married... whoa. We were serious. We were talking about getting married. I'd still step in front of a train for him. But substance abuse issues really got in the way of things, and we split. After Mack and I got married, this ex was in an accident and had no one. No one. So Mack sent me to the hospital to stay with him for a few days, so he wouldn't be alone. Just because you couldn't make a relationship work with someone doesn't mean the love isn't real, or important.
We've lost touch in the last 2 years, because the idea of us being friends was NOT cool to his new girlfriend. The one he's now marrying. She's nice enough, I hear. I just don't understand why she'd invite me and my whole family to the wedding if it made her uncomfortable for he and I to have coffee every once in a while.
Oh well. You live, you love, some stick, some don't. I'll send a present and a nice card.
They have remained in touch throughout the years. They dated in high school and the first two years of college and up until he started dating his fiance saw each other regularly. That tapered to sporadically but I feel like he probably still considers her a friend and wanted her there. Had she been in a good relationship I think she would have taken it with grace and been able to attend no problem but since she isn't, she hasn't.
Maybe she thought you'd bring a camera and she'd get some awesome pics out of the deal?
Ooo okay! That makes sense!
Also, I can't remember if it was you talking about the Biggest Loser or not....but I just watched it and yea, I'm okay with who got kicked off!

I did have pretty good results with it. I noticed it most in my arms, but didn't do any measurements there. But I've always thought that, for my size, my arms were on the bigger side (shirts that fit elsewhere were tight there). Now, I feel pretty proud of them. I even can do real pushups now - I'm up to about 15 in a row! I also lost a full inch off my lower belly, and a half inch off my actual waist. I didn't lose a single pound while I was doing it, which was frustrating, but I feel like the toning benefits I got were worth the pause in my weight loss. There were a lot of things in level 3 that I couldn't do - I have never had knee or ankle problems, and some of the jumpy things made me hurt a lot (and not in a "I'm getting buff" soreness kind of way), so I just did the toned-down version of those.
I had big plans after it was over to come up with my own version, basically using all my favorite moves, and do it 3x a week... yeh, I did it once, but had to stop early because our Chinese Takeout Delivery arrived, and haven't done it since. Oops.
Haha! She would have been right!
Thank ya'll for making me feel better. I was entering a guilt cycle for feeling heartstrings about it, but I just needed to remind myself of what I already knew... I'm happy, he's happy, but it's weird because we were very much in love. I'll just stick to feeling honored that I got the invite!
That is awesome!

I have been horrible about doing it because I run Mon, Wed, Fri, Sat so it only leaves Tues/Thurs to do it. I took me exactly a month to do the ten days of level one but I lost three inches from my thighs, some various other inches and definitely feel muscles forming in my arms. I did day seven of level two yesterday and plan to measure again next week to see if I have lost anything else.
You are too cute with your Chinese takeout.
Ummm... ladies... tell me if this sounds right to you.
We got a Home Depot tile quote... our kitchen/nook area is 162 square feet total according to the person who came out and measured.
We are quoted purchasing 20% more tile for diagonal installation. That part I am fine with, extra waste...etc.
Here is my beef with this. We are being charged the full installation rate for the 30 extra square feet of waste We are paying the base installation rate plus $.85/square foot to have it done diagonally because it is more complicated....but shouldn't that be based on the # of square feet in the actual room?
Ugh. I still have the contacts from you ladies... we thought we could get this all done quickly and easily and be able to get airline miles for it too. It is looking more and more like we were incorrect.
My suggestion would be to call the contacts that we gave you (seriously, Gary is awesome!) and have them come out and give you an estimate. Then you can see what they say, and compare it all. I always make sure to have multiple quotes before undertaking something that expensive, and try to get some from large companies and some from more independents.

DH is a contractor and he cringes anytime anyone uses Lowe's or Home Depot for anything. They tend to upcharge for everything and their workers are not generally the best trained people you can find. I would encourage you highly to seek quotes from GCs.
Michelle - Mark talked to Gary on the phone and thought his quote was high. Well, certainly not anymore!
Also, I certainly cannot imagine 250 pounds of mortar being needed in my kitchen. These people are BSC.
ETA: Sigh.. maybe we will just DIY.... or I really don't mind the concrete...maybe we should stain and seal it. Ha.
I agree with Leslie. Home Depot/Lowe's would have been our last resort.
I think our guy did have us buy slightly more tile -- but we did end up buying a little less than he wanted us to (based on what the guy we bought the tile from told us we should get) and it was fine. He just gave us a quote for the size of our kitchen. I think he did charge us slightly more for the diagonal in the kitchen but he did our shower tile pattern at no extra charge (he was the one who suggested it).
With All the Trimmings
Just do it!
Yeah, I don't mind buying extra tile at all or paying more for the diagonal install. It's the fact that they actually are charging us to install 30 more square feet of tile than we have floor that irks me.
Tiffany,
My parents and sister put tile in the whole house. My parents got a quote from Home Depot, Lowes and a few independent guys. Lowes/Home Depot were lower on tile prices but much more on labor. Plus they said it would take longer. My sister and her DH went with Home Depot (BIL is in love with Home Depot) and they ended up being charged nearly double what my parents pay for a less expensive tile and it took them almost 2 days longer than expected. My mom remodeled her bathrooms and used the same tile guy to come do her bathrooms and he gave her a better deal since she was a repeat. I think the smaller guys are in it for the right reason, they want the customer to be happy. Lowes/Home depot want your money, IMHO.
Tiffany, the extra tile sounds legit, but being charged for the extra sf does not. Just my $0.02.
This is random, but has anyone ever heard of or been to a wedding at CityPlace Tower? I work there (in the building but not at the event facility) and have always wondered if any of you have been there, and if it's nice and all of that. Just wondering for no particular reason, and because it's SA Day.
Also, I painted my nails yesterday for the first time in years, and I feel pretty today
Tiffany - Tell Gary you know me if you talk to him again! He is an old family friend. The reason I highly recommend him is that he is honest (won't charge you for a lot of "surprises" half way through the job), reliable (will not leave you stranded in the middle of a job), and does very nice work.
Angie - I've never been to a wedding there, but that is where my HS had prom. I can't really remember much about it seeing that it was a decade ago, and I could have cared less about "event venues" at the time. Ah, how things have changed.

A lady I work with had a daughter who wanted to have her wedding there, but they cancelled when they found out that CP was going to be remodeling the whole area and would have construction materials that would be visible to the guests.
