Re: Wednesday Randoms
Grove just opened across from the Green Well. They don't have a liquor license yet but you could grab a beer at Brewery Vivant before dinner. And after
I need a giant "like" button for everyone's randoms today!
I am dying to go to Grove.
I hate FaceBook now.
Love ArtPrize.
See "pinterest" on the pine rest billboard too, never used pinterest though.
Love the fish tacos at Twisted Rooster.
I need to clone myself for work for all the traveling I need to do this fall. And keep up with my blogs. I need to start charging for the social media campaigns and free marketing advice I give out. And stop taking on new projects (I say as I am thinking of new articles to write for The Rapidian).
I just got back from Artprize at Meijer Gardens...Meh!!! They have them in the sculpture gallery this year, not outdoors (other than two). And, they won't allow you to take pictures in the scultpture gallery. Ummm...hello, you realize that none of your pieces will be promoted by any of your attendees. No Facebook promotion, no buzz being build up about your pieces. It just seems like one of their usual exhibits that happen to be going on during ArtPrize.
On the way out, the girls were running around the atrium area. I was trying to get Allison to stand up straight and still and she pulled away as I was holding on to her arm. She cried and said it hurt. I didn't put too much thought into it. She has a tendancy to be a little bit of melodramtic when it comes to injuries. However by the time we left she was crying hard. I put an ice pack on it for the ride home. She and Mia are watching a show right now. I figured I would leave her alone for a few minutes and see if complains any more. Sometimes she gets focused on something and it turns into a big deal. I'm hoping it is a temporary hurt.
I feel like such a bad mom!
ETA: She and Amelia were playing Candyland and Allison was leaning on her arm putting all her weight on it. Phew!
If you don't want to have to ask that question, I would recommend avoiding the sidewalk in front of Bull's Head.
Weirdo art.
LOL! That wasn't up when we were there Saturday; thanks for the tip.
My Clean Eating Blog
Green Living Reading List
That's completely ridiculous.
What is pinterest?
yeah considering that Artprize is all about social media and getting people to talk about art and share what they see. I picked up that staff (non art stuff) and volunteers are not too happy with this rule. Usually they don't allow people to take photos in the gallery because they don't own the pieces, however they have to realize that Arprize is different. I think the artists realize that people will take pictures, hell they should WANT people to take pictures. I
think it would be hilarious for someone to get a no cell phone sticker and put it on their signs that says no photos. Its not like they are going to get a lot of votes anyways.
The vibe there is just different this year. I always love going in the scultpure gallery with the kids. I know I will get the guards and volunteers moving a bit. Nothing like a 3 and 4 year old to make them get off their chairs.
My day flew by today except the last 10 minutes. I swear it's going at turtle speed!
He does a fair amount of litigation/court-room time with his work, doesn't he?
In general, does he like the "going to court" part of his job?
If this is more specific than you want to answer, feel free to tell me so or FB me if you'd prefer. I'm just a little curious and am starting to try to determine what I think about whether I'd prefer "litigation" in the most general sense.
So this is random, I talked to my former boss today. I had a vm from a former cw saying that he was looking for some of the customer files I had worked on. First of all, if he had managed my exit properly, I could have told him/showed him all of this two months ago before my departure. Secondly, I left TWO MONTHS AGO and he is just now contacting me about this?! Thirdly, I am so glad I no longer work for him.
Finally, he asked how things were going (when I gave notice he had expressed that being a lawyer was always his dream because he "likes to argue"--cue eye roll at worst reason ever to go to law school--n/m the fact that he has no undergrad degree). I told him it was insanely hard and that I routinely put in 14hr days at school. He seemed shocked.
I know you didn't ask me, but I thought I'd offer my two-cents.
I know attorneys who love litigation. It's what they went to law school to do and they wouldn't have it any other way. They get really geeked up about their cases and it makes them happy.
And I also know attorneys who find litigation to be dreadfully boring (believe it or not) and find transactional work to be much more interesting and rewarding. They despise the thought of having to appear in court.
So, I think it really depends on the individual attorney and his/her personality.
On a related note, all through law school, my brother had no interest in litigation. He didn't really even consider it, I don't think. But six months or so ago, he fell into a position that involved a lot of commercial lit. And now he's really enjoying the litigation part of his job and he's pretty excited about it. He was recently telling me and mom all about his first dep. It was cute.
BTW, did your professor accept your late paper that you posted about?
As for the paper, I think I'm fine. The prof emailed to say "Thanks for letting me know." Later she emailed saying everyone's papers were in. After a closer reading of the syllabus, it appears that as long as the secretary is still accepting papers there is no issue (and mine was accepted).
I always value your opinion on this topic, Kasa, so thanks! I also didn't really go to law school for litigation, exactly. However, I'm finding myself oddly enjoying CivPro and realizing that knowing and using these complex rules to one's best advantage is a fun mental challenge and I love "winning." I think all law students and lawyers are relatively competitive by nature, so that part is no surprise, but civil litigation appeals to that "performance" experience that I used to love when I was showing horses competitively--being "on stage", doing something I'm well prepared for and then succeeding. But, while I enjoy this, it takes a lot out of me. I get a major adrenaline rush from it and it can be really all-consuming for me.
OTOH, I really like the "counseling" part of attorney's work. I think negotiating deals, advising clients and other sorts of transactional work would be equally satisfying for me, but without the more extreme highs and lows that I'd likely get from litigation.
I'm already thinking about some potential work experiences (as early as next semester depending on my grades this semester), that could give me a taste of litigation so I can have a better idea of what it would really be like for me. One of my interest areas, Labor & Employment, carries with it a substantial amount of litigation so I'd like to flesh out the litigation vs. transactional piece a little more clearly as soon as I can.
DP, to be honest, I'm not sure what TH really likes. I think he is stuck in a bit of a rut. He was kind of pigeoned holed into his line of work that he is currently in. At his old firm, someone left and he took over those types of cases. Well the types of cases he took on skyrocketed so that was pretty much all that he did for a several years. And then they lost their biggest client, and then he lost his job. When he looked for a new job, he just stuck with what he knew best.
At his old firm, I could tell when he hadn't been to court in several days. He would try to "pick fights' with me for the fun of it. Nothing serious or mean, but you could tell he needed to argue his side.
Since he is the only person in his office, he does like going to court in that it gets him out of the office and around other people.
BTW - he didn't get out of court until 5 pm. He probably won't be home until 7:30. Allison is acting like a little sh*t tonight so I don't trust her to go out by myself with both of them tonight. So much for a fun night.
MB, thanks for sharing. That's funny (although I'm sure not for you) about him picking fights.
Sorry about his working late tonight and Allison's misbehavior. That doesn't sound fun at all.
