Thursday randoms

Last night I had a dream where Michele Bachmann cut in front of me in line at Quiznos.

Re: Thursday randoms

  • Well, I think this may have just sealed the deal on whether or not I'll be ziplining.

    Ha!

I'm sad, my last foraging class of the season is tonight. On the bright side, I joined her herbal CSA.

What was your reaction in the dream? Did you stand up to her?

My dream self is much more aggressive than my awake self. It is always weird to me when I wake up from a dream and I fought with someone in it My dreams must be when/where I let out my frustrations.

    Sad.  Sad

I got very angry in my dream and started yelling at the Quiznos workers because they were serving Bachmann and her posse before me, and I had been waiting longer.  So, yeah, definitely pretty aggressive.

I'm pretty intrigued by this dream actually.  It seems so symbolic.  Cutting in line... entitlement... unfairness... etc.

Oh yes. I am sure this could be another post and we could chat for hours about this! Ha!

  • Good Morning!

Sad about the zip line accident. :-(  It was just a test a run, if it makes you feel better.

Also, I very much enjoyed the fish tacos at Twisted Rooster last night. :-)  All of our food was really good.

  • The Quiznos part of the dream was I'm sure because I had that place on my mind yesterday.

Did you know they closed the Quiznos downtown?!  How long ago was that?

I probably haven't been there for two years, but yesterday I decided it would make a good lunch.  So, I walk over there, entered the McKay Tower, and then was faced with the realization that the Quiznos space was empty.  Sad.

It was probably Michele Bachmann's fault (somehow).

Yay!  Glad you had a nice dinner.

  • It's Thursday and my best friend's birthday. I cant believe we have known another 14 years!

  • That dream is fascinating and really funny.  Does anyone at your job (or other job) remind you of her?  Or maybe she's a symbol for being overwhelmed.

In my dream, I was wearing my Americorps sweatshirt, and in the pouch, I had a tiny baby pig.  I kept it warm.  Also weird.

That sounds like a pregnancy dream.

I haven't been remembering dreams lately.  I consider it an extremely successful night if I don't toss and turn for hours trying to turn off my brain and if I stay asleep until the alarm goes off.  Law school is not good for sleep.  One of the things I miss most about "my old life" is my pro sleeping skillz.

  • Kasa, was it you that said you like to ask "How many people have died doing this?" whenever you're asked to sign a waiver form?

Still, I don't think zip lining is very risky.  Your drive to the airport will probably be the riskiest part of the Hawaii trip Wink.  Of course if the anxiety will eliminate your fun, then don't do it, but I loved zip lining at Boyne.

I know.  I'm staying away from my Americorps sweatshirt for a long time now.

Hmmm... I don't think she represents anyone at either of my jobs.  I have a different sort of frustrations with those people.  I think it's more direct and she represents everyone I'm frustrated with in government/politics.  Although, I was thinking more about it, and why was I yelling at the Quiznos employees instead of Bachmann?  I'm a coward in my dreams!

Your dream is interesting too.  Is it a combination of your desires to nurture, volunteer for good causes, and have a little backyard farm?

I almost never remember dreams.  I'm sorry you're having trouble sleeping - I had the same troubles w/turning my brain off.  Something that kind of helped was when I would wake up, I'd write down a to do list on the side of the bed, then go back to sleep.

Do you spend some time before you go to bed to try to decompress and relax?  Whether it be exercising, reading for pleasure, TV.  I know that if I don't spend at least an hour doing that, I will not be sleeping much.

I know I've had a lot of problems sleeping lately, with everything on my mind.  I've had to remind myself of my own advice.  Also, doing yoga a couple of hours before bed helps me sleep like a pro.

Yes, that's me!  I do think that the anxiety is likely to eliminate the fun at this point, unless I were to take something to combat that.  I'm not sure it's worth drugging myself though!

  • Ugh, Michelle Bachmann.  There is an article in the August (September?) issue of Elle about young conservative women.  I find it simultaneously maddening and fascinating.

One of the women interviewed said something to the effect of "If you live in Vermont but don't like gay marriage, there are 49 other states for you to choose."  Uh, really?  Isn't there an amendment to the US Constitution that says all states need to honor certain laws from other states (notably, marriages)?

Another gem was a 25 yo who had a job as a medical staffing consultant that earned her nearly 6 figures (her dad is a surgeon...wonder how she got her great job...) and when she got her tax bill and saw that she had moved up a bracket she was "driven to tears and to the Tea Party."  Are you farking kidding me?  You're 25, you're earning nearly $100,000 every year and you want to cry?!

I have found that reading a bit of non law school stuff helps "clear my brain out."  I've been trying to read a chapter or two of Suite Francaise (yes, still working on it) just before sleep and it helps.  The hard part is feeling up to tackling looking at words on a page.

I work out first thing in the morning and don't really feel up to it again in the evening, especially because it's so late (usually 9p.m. or later when I get home from studying).  Maybe doing a few sun salutations would help, though.

For what it's worth, I've been trying to add at least 10 deep/slow breaths of meditation to my yoga routine.  It's not much, but I've definitely seen a difference as it helps me clear my head and relax a little.

49?  She wasn't really up to date, eh?  6 states allow gay marriage.

  • I'm starting to get the gardens ready for winter.  It's always sad for me.  This year, I'm hoping that I don't get to see the plants in bloom again (because we've moved).

    Sigh.

  • Interesting. I didn't see the article so I'll have to try and find it. Sometimes I wonder if they search out the richest and dumbest ones for articles like these. $100,000 a year means how much goes to taxes? It isn't like the Govt is taking 50%. My paycheck usually get 23% taken out for takes why should it be any different for someone else.

I had no idea that it closed. It was there back in March. Now where am I to get mmmm toasty?

I don't often remember my dreams but this past weekend DH woke me up out of a dead sleep because of his dream. He started shouted orders at someone and then had the "evil henchmen" laugh. Woke me up and I couldn't get back to sleep for 2 hours. I asked me about it the next morning and he said he remembered dream but not what it was about.

It's actually different for everyone, depending on your circumstances.
