I'm starting to get the gardens ready for winter.  It's always sad for me.  This year, I'm hoping that I don't get to see the plants in bloom again (because we've moved).

    Sigh.

I hope that the right buyer finds you soon. I forgot where are you hoping to move to?

Out of GRPS, at least 3 bedrooms, and at least 1.5 baths (woah, is 1 bathroom tough w/ 4 people - one of whom is still learning).  Extra space for chickens would be ideal, but I don't want well or septic.  That makes it tricky.

Interesting. I didn't see the article so I'll have to try and find it. Sometimes I wonder if they search out the richest and dumbest ones for articles like these. $100,000 a year means how much goes to taxes? It isn't like the Govt is taking 50%. My paycheck usually get 23% taken out for takes why should it be any different for someone else.

It's actually different for everyone, depending on your circumstances.

Thanks! I don't think I've seen that bracket before. So the chick has to pay 28% in takes. I don't know about you girl but I could get by on $70k a year but maybe I'm just cheap. ;)

Yeah that last part is tricky. My parents area would be perfect for you guys...except for the well and septic. They have plenty of more for chickens. In fact the neighbors chickens like my parents front yard and usually make a daily trip over.

She'll pay a lot less than $28k if she is even halfway smart with money.  Plenty of ways to get your AGI low.

Yeah well and septic suck!  Haha.  They don't suck, I'm just kidding.  The only time they suck is when you have to shell our $20k to convert them to city water and sewer.  Other than that, well and septic rock.  Seriously.

Which is why you hope you or your neighbor have a pool to get water from and the house has a fire place. Mom & Dad have done that a few times before.

    Ha!

  • Isn't punctuation one of the things you're not supposed to discuss with friends?

Sex, politics, money, and punctuation all are likely to start hurt feelings. ;)

I love that you guys have come to an agreement about that.

I don't mean to dis the well and septic.  I have never lived w/ anything but public sewers and water, so that change freaks me out.  What if the well goes bad?  What if the septic tank is punctured?  *shivers* I can't handle that.

    City girl.  Stick out tongue

IMO, it depends on the well.  I don't think I could ever live anywhere that has bad well water -- whether it tastes bad or stains your sinks/fixtures.  But some well water (up north, anyway) is pretty awesome and tastes great.

Yes, out of pocket.  The city did not pay...lmao.

The township got a grant from the state of Michigan (maybe?) to hook a subdivision up in my neighborhood that had contaminated water.  To get from the hook up point to the neighborhod that received the grant, they passed lots and lots of houses.  Those lucky houses were required to hook up on their own dime.  My home sweet home was along the path, lucky me!

The pros far outweigh the cons (IMO) of having well and septic, and I grew up with city and sewer my entire life as well.  I'm sad I only got to have septic and well water for a year.

Add it to their tax bill over the next 14 years with 6% interest.  And that is just for the $15k bill.  I feel bad for the people who couldn't afford the $5k or so just for the contractor, permits, deposits, etc.  There are some pretty poor (looking) houses in my neighborhood.

On top of the $20k or so to hook up, we now have to pay for water and sewer for the rest of our lives.  Blows.

My parents' cottage has a great well.  But I couldn't do it every day.  Water softeners?  What?!  Yeah.. this girl loves nature and chickens and baby goats, but can't imagine living with well and septic.

Not all wells require water softeners.  We didn't have one/need one.  :)  My dad doesn't have one either, and his water is fantastic.

  • It's funny, because we had well/septic growing up and have well/septic now.  I don't mind it.  Andy actually had the water tested (for geeky beer making reasons) and our water is awesome - we do have to use a water softener but no staining of any fixtures - I think our water isn't very hard.

To be honest, the only thing that bothers me about septic is due to Aunt Flow and not being able to flush lady related items.

My parents' cottage well water is a special treat. All my nieces and nephews ask for glasses of cottage water. Love it.

My BIL's cottage well water makes my hands smell and stains the sink. It started affecting my niece's hair. Gross.

  • Random compaint of the day:  I really miss running and I really hate being injured.  It's not just the inability to run that bothers me, but I hate that I'm losing my fitness that I worked hard to build up.

Random YAY of the day:  Leftovers for lunch make me happy.  The lack of prep work this morning and the tastiness of the meal just about makes my day.

  • Willa's report from yesterday: "I have a new boyfriend.  His name is DeMarcus.  Sometimes he doesn't make good choices, but he's really cute."

Oh my. This is so funny. I wish I could tell her to stay away from the ones that are cute, but make bad choices. Those relationships rarely work out.

I know, Hoek.  Maybe she'll work through all of this early in her life?  Fingers crossed.  Also, Willa's no longer allowed to talk with my dad who always teases her about having boyfriends.  ;)
