Brain tumors and other random happenings

My sister is out of surgery and in recovery. Initial results confirm what they thought it was last week so that's good news. More in-depth info within a week.

It's in the mid-60s to 70s where we are now. I miss chilly jacket-wearing weather but I hear the mitten state is about the same, if not warmer. :(

  • So glad to read this update.  How long is her stay post-biopsy?

Yeah, the weather has been terrific this week.  Perfect for tearing out the vegetables, and adding to the illicit compost heap.

    Such a rebel.

GRKaters - So good to hear that you all received positive news. Hope that she recovers quickly!

  • Glad to hear that everything went well.

  • Oh geez, you know... I read "brain tumors" and didn't see the "randoms" part. Sorry for starting a new randoms.

  • You know when you meet someone, and you - mutually - think you'll be good friends with that person, and then you start seeing things that make you want to back off?  Yeah... that's happening to me right now, and it's uncomfortable.  Particularly since she recruited me for a volunteer project that started in the summer and goes through the holidays.

Phew luckily the project I asked you to help me with will start in winter and run through summer. Unless you are saying summer through the holidays just to throw me off.

  • Naw... if it was you, I'd just tell you that you were making me crazy. ;)

  • So glad the outlook seems good at this point GRKaters!

We've been trying to enjoy the nice weather while it's here.  We are going on a bike ride tonight and last night we walked around Art Prize with Toby and had a beer on HopCat's patio.  Perfectly lovely.

  • Juli, how does Gordie do when he's home alone?

I've thought of taking one dog, but not the other on walks about town, but have huge guilt.  The other day they both came with Henry and I to get Willa.  The stroller + 2 dogs was too much for me.  Luckily, Arlo was interested in riding down below in the stroller (where some of you have seen Willa ride, recently).

  • James had is 2 month shots yesterday.  :(  He is napping now, but every now and then he screams bloody murder in his sleep.  It is breaking my heart.  I pick him up soothe him and lay him back down, and he never even opens one eye.  Only to do it all again in 20 mins.  I can't imagine how his little body must feel after getting inoculated for 8 different things.

  • I hate my life this week.  I may have mentioned this already.  Thank dog it's over tomorrow.  I seem to be in a cycle where every three weeks I plummet down the academic confidence cliff.  We are in week 6 of school  It is of some comfort that my classmates feel the same way.
  • GRK - great news!

I found out last night that the hospital my uncle had been trying to get into in Houston denied him.

    Crying x's a trillion.

They said his cancer is terminal and treatment will not help.  I'm pretty devasted.  He'll be coming to Michigan next Thursday.  My aunt, who works at U of M hospital, is going to try to get him admitted there.  We're pretty much grasping at straws at this point.  It really blows.

    Cancer, I hate you.

Hard to say when we're both gone. :-) When one of us leaves with just Toby (vet appt. usually) he'll whine and look at the window for a few minutes, then lay down.  Sometimes he'll wait at the door.

When we're both gone with Toby, I'm not sure.  He's not destructive in any manner, but I'd guess that he whines and waits.  I wish and hope to someday be able to take Gordie out confidently in any public situation.  Unfortunately, since he has some anxiety and dog on dog aggression, I have to be very careful when taking him out - right now I try not to risk any place where there are likely to be big crowds and other dogs.

  • D&M - I'm so sorry to hear about your uncle.  Many thoughts with you and the family.

Wop - That picture is ADORABLE.  I have no idea what STTN is WAIT I THINK I JUST FIGURED IT OUT.  Sleep through the night???

Mira - I hope James feels better soon.  I'm sure that must be hard, but you're being a good Mama to him.

Just overnight so far--as long as things stay copacetic.

And pulling OUT the veggies? My (numerous) tomatoes still haven't turned color yet! EVER!

    Ohhh that is devastating. :(

  • D&M- I  am so very sorry.  I'm guessing it was MD Anderson that denied him?  Sometimes it can be hard to get into the cancer hospitals or even seen my the cancer specialists at big hospitals.  There is just too much demand, which is sad and wrong.  Do you know if he looked into Huntsman in Utah?  Unfortunately sometimes you have to know someone to get in.  I hope you Aunt can help get him in at UofM.

  • D&M, I'm so, so sorry.  Terribly sad.

Katers, pick some of your tomatoes and put them in a paper bag.  Close up the bag, and put on the counter.  Check every day, and take out the red ones as they rippen.

Juli, I fear if we left one dog at home, we would have tangible evidence of Arlo or Greta not being happy about it.  I'm glad that's not the case for you.

    WOP: Awwwww... she's so cute!

Mira: post shots is rough for baby and mom.  It gets easier.  Also, HI!  Good to see you here.  How was yoga this week (for all 3 of you)?

  • Just popping by to say HI!!

It's kind of quiet here today. DH fell last night coming out of the bike trail and bashed himself up a little. He is feeling it today.

  • The last day of the season for The Dairy Ranch is Sunday. A few of us walked on over to enjoy some ice cream. It was good.

The last ice cream trip of the season for us was about 3 weeks ago. My new seasonal treat is combining candy corn and apple slices. Tastes very close to a caramel apple, without the mess.

This is a fascinating idea.  I eat candy corn by the handful and I have an overabundance of apples.  You just sprinkle candy corn over the apples?
