Re: Chit Chat Thursday

  • I don't have any positive AWs today, just an AW story:

I came feet from really hurting myself/my car this morning. The highway splits off into three lanes at 121, two going to 121 and one continuing onto 820. A woman in a giant truck decided last second she needed to go 820. We were entering onto a bridge and there is one lane. I literally ran off into the grass and luckily stopped completely before my car went off into the open underpass below. She didn't even slow down. I was so shaken I burst into tears and this kind old man and woman stopped to see if I was okay. I sat there for like five minutes before gathering myself enough to keep going.

I would like to go back to bed.

Leslie! Oh my I'm so glad your ok! There wasn't any damage to your car or yourself right?

I feel over some wires yesterday and landed straight on my bad knee... It hurts badly and no working out until I get walk properly.. It wasn't AW so I didn't post it, but no one is posting so come on girl might as well make it Chit chat thursday.

  • Leslie - So scary... I am glad you're okay.  There's an angel on your shoulder!

I made pumpkin muffins last night, and they are TO DIE FOR.  I had a friend of mine tell me to sub Diet Dr. Pepper instead of water in the batter, and it made a HUGE difference.

Ok, done tooting my own horn.  :)

  • Leslie, that sounds so scary!  I'm glad you're ok, and that was really nice of the old man and woman who stopped to see if you were alright.

DH's car had issues yesterday so we towed it to the repair place who said he needed to replace the starter.  It was pricey but fine, because we need his car.  Come to find out last night (after replacing the starter), the engine is gone.  We don't want to sink that amount of money into a new or repaired engine for a car we were planning on trading in another year or so now we're considering making the purchase of the truck sooner rather than later.  This probably will mean pushing back the house search a little more and I'm bummed.

  • Leslie, I'm so glad you are ok.  I hate that area right there.  People don't pay attention to signs and realize last minute they are in the wrong lane.  I have seen too many near accidents right there.  I would have gone home.

Not a lot going on here. We are going to San Antonio this weekend for our anniversary.  It will be nice to get away even if it is only for a day.

My nephew's 8th birthday is this weekend and he has asked for money.  I asked what he planned on buying and he wants to buy his own iTouch because "then mom and dad can't take it away like they do the iPhone and iPad".  I personally think 8 is too young.  Especially since they have 2 iPhones, an iPad, and computer and a laptop he can use whenever he wants but he hates that he has to share it so he wants his own. I also think giving an 8 year old money to buy a $200 electronic object is a little much.  Maybe I'm just being hard headed or something but I told DH and my mom I'm think about buying him a game for his DS or legos or something.

  • Leslie - Oh my gosh, thank goodness you are okay.  That's scary.

Brianna - pumpkin muffins sound SO good.

Our anniversary is this weekend, too.  So, we both took Monday off, so we can enjoy a three day weekend.  I'm very excited.

  • Lacey - they are super easy!  Yellow cake mix (follow box instructions - use diet dr pepper or diet coke instead of water), 15 oz can of pumpkin filling, 1/2 tbsp of pumpkin spices... cook on 350 in muffin tins.  Then I took a can of whipped cream cheese icing and melted it down on the stove and drizzled it over the muffins.
  • Leslie- I am so glad you are okay!

Lauren- aw I am sorry you have to put off looking for a house :-(

I don't really have anything today. We are going to the fair this weekend!

  • Three weeks.  That is all.

    Leslie, I'm glad you're okay.

After a discussion last night, we'll be doing flooring after the new year and will be spending the next ten weeks cleaning out stuff and getting rid of books and dvds.  If you knew my husband, then you know this is a big deal.  My ILs, who never liked that he spent lots of money on these things, will flip out because then, according to them, he wasted his money.  Never mind the fact that we'll take them to Half Price and hopefully make some money.

My brother came to visit for an hour the other night and I had a nice time.  We now have a plan for Thanksgiving and Christmas.  We still have no idea what my ILs want to do about Christmas and I think we should set a deadline.  Around the first of the month, I checked flights to NOLA and they were already about $250 a person.  I checked the other day and it's already gone up $60 a person.  We could drive but we'd have to turn around and leave after a couple of hours.

  • Yay for anniversaries and muffins!

Deepthi - My car/I were fine just shaken up. Thanks for the concern girls!

Lauren - I'm sorry to hear that it is going to push your house buying back some! I hate car issues, they are always so inconvenient. Hopefully you will get an awesome end-of-year deal on a car!

  • Speaking of Half Price Books, they are having a clearance sale this weekend and everything is $3 and below, with most of it being below.

  • I hate people who don't pay a lick of attention when driving but I am so glad you are okay Leslie and that the couple stopped to help you out.  I don't know how you ladies do your daily commute...I have a feeling I would be forced to go to anger management if I had to deal with all that M-F.
  • Thanks guys!  I had a moment last night when I heard about it, but now I'm trying to look on the bright side.  Like you said Leslie, hopefully some good end of year sales.

Boo to car problems.  I know Chris must be drooling for a new truck but you could get a reliable used car for the time being and do both.

  • Goodness ladies, I sorry to hear about the all this stuff.  Good juju coming everyone's way!

Glad you're ok LeslieDeepthi, I hope you feel better soon.  Lauren, boo to the car issues and pushing back the house looking.  Sarah, have fun at the fair!

YAY for anniversaries and pumpkin muffins!  I want to try them now! Thanks for the recipe Bri!

My AW is our canvases shipped today! I can't wait to see them in a week!  Also, wanted to share a pic of our new used Corvette since I haven't AW'd it yet.  We bought her back in July and I'm in love!

Those sound yummy!  Someone brought in Pumpkin donuts from Krispy Kreme and I had a bite of one and then the coffee shop had pumpkin spiced coffee.  Pumpkin is everywhere today.

Gorgeous!! Now that deserves the AW award!

  • I'm going to AW getting to sleep in, because I reeeeeally needed it. This morning, we decided it was too dadgum cold to do an outdoor bootcamp, so we came back home and were going to take a short nap. I have no idea how long Mack slept, but I know he didn't wake me up until about 20 minutes ago. MAN, I feel great!

    And I am totally jealous.

  • Leslie - Glad you're okay!

Lauren - That sucks about the car issues, but like they said, maybe you can get a good deal since it's the end of the year!

Lacy - I love love love your car.

I am working from home today because the a/c people came back out - it wasn't working Tuesday, but then last night seemed okay, but we'd already scheduled the service call so we let them come back out.  I think the guy this morning thought I was an idiot, because it was working fine.  He was here about 10 minutes with it running, and it dropped 4 degrees - to 66!  Now that he's gone, I have the heater on :)

So, I have been having really bad dreams about my grandmother, who passed away in December 2009.  We were very close, because I was there almost every day after school growing up, and she lived right down the road from us.  She had some dementia issues before she passed away and would be afraid that people were trying to hurt her, but always knew the family members and was never mean to us or anything  (although, she did threaten the nursing home workers a few times).  After she passed away, I used to have bad dreams where she was very very angry over things and I couldn't figure out what, but then they stopped... but the last few nights I've had those same type dreams again.  In last night's dream, she was in a lot of pain, and was very upset about the pain and something else (no idea what), and I just kept trying to make her comfortable and was praying and praying for her to just be comfortable until she passed.  It was horrible.  I've been trying to think about why I might be having these dreams, and can't figure out any reason, because every time I saw her toward the end, she was very happy, and accepting - she even told me that she wasn't afraid to die and she was ready to walk with Jesus.  That should give a person peace about their loved one passing, right?

  • Amanda that is an awesome car!

Jaymi - You're right! As much as he would love new, we'll probably be leaning more towards a used for now.

  • Lauren - that really stinks!  I'm so sorry.

Leslie - I'm glad you're okay.  I HATE when people do that right there!

Thanks for the info Brianna!  Those sound delicious!  I just bought cake mix and the pumpkin filling monday night so now all I need is Diet DP and pumpkin spices.

Amanda - Congrats on the car!!  I can't see the pic on my work computer for some reason, but I bet it's just beautiful!!!

  • Woo Amanda! That's a big deal AW!

  • Also...here's a status update pic from our kitchen. The Rangers being in the playoffs/World Series is really slowing up the work of my contractor (DH):

The bright side? As long as the stove is missing - I don't have to cook! :)

I was in Chris' position last year; we finally saved up enough money and then DH and I talked and I could either get a new car or a house and I chose a house as I was getting so tired of the lack of space- don't regret that decision one bit.  But you need 2 cars and we were making it work with 1.  I'm sure whatever you decide is best for you will work out.

  • Yay for anniversaries, cars, and pumpkin muffins (which I am totally making)!  And that Leslie is OK!

I'm in a funk so I probably won't post today.  I slept terribly, was sick this morning, and generally just am out of sorts.  Plus the Rangers didn't help my mood.  And I am so upset over all those animals being killed in Ohio--stories like that upset me so much, sometimes it takes a day or two for me to get over it.

  • I am PW-ing but:

    Holy lurker explosion lately.

Also - in the daycare thread below a woman said that Primrose is $250 a week for a newborn. Y'all that's a thousand dollars a month. That's a mortgage. Being a SAHM is looking better and better.

This is already in my "con" column for having kids.  I could never stay at home.

Glad you are okay - that sounds horrifying!

Congrats to all on their AW's.

ETA: Leslie - tile looks awesome so far!!

  • Thanks everyone!

Leslie, I love the new flooring! It's beautiful!  I am a huge fan of big tile!

Stephie, I sure hope you feel better. I couldn't believe the Ohio animal story in the first place and now this... just sad.
