Chit Chat Thursday

Re: Chit Chat Thursday

  • Leslie - That tile is looking great!

Jaymi - We're experimenting with the 1 car thing right now, which is ok because I can work from home.  We know it won't last, but at least it gives us some time to really look around instead of feeling like we need to buy right this second.  I would have totally gone with the house over the car too ;)

  • That is my dream color, Amanda!!!!!

    Holy lurker explosion lately.

Also - in the daycare thread below a woman said that Primrose is $250 a week for a newborn. Y'all that's a thousand dollars a month. That's a mortgage. Being a SAHM is looking better and better.

This is the ONLY reason we still live out here in the boonies. My parents & grandparents both live within a mile of us... voila, free, on-demand childcare that I trust to probably do a better job than I can myself. There's no way we could afford to live in Dallas and work two nights a week/every weekend.

  • Tiffany- How is Cosmo?

    Tiffany- How is Cosmo?

My parents took him to the vet yesterday (his vet is in my hometown, so my Dad came to pick him up) and he checked out just fine.  He has lost some weight though, which is concerning since he eats like there is no tomorrow.  They did blood work and we should find out the results tomorrow.

My Mom said he was still really uncomfortable last night though, so we are hoping the blood work will give us a clue as to what is going on.

Thanks for asking!  I will let you guys know when we find out.

  • Leslie - this probably doesn't help the case - but Cadence goes to PRE-K, 3 days a week at a daycare in Grapevine.  We pay $150/week.  That's $600/month, and that hurts too... talk about a serious cramp in the budget.

That's one major reason we waited on having a 2nd for so long, because it doesn't make sense financially to put two in daycare at the same time for us.  Luckily, my MIL moved to our area this summer, and she owns her own business... so between me, DH, and MIL - #2 won't have to go to daycare.

That said - we put Cadence in daycare when she was 1.  While I wish that we could have waited till she was 2 or 3 to put her in, daycare and being immersed in a learning environment with other kids helped her flourish a ton.  And the social interaction can't be beat.

For instance - yesterday she told me "Mommy, you take a consonant and a 'bowel' and you smush them together, and that spells a word!"  Would I have been able to even know to teach her that yet?  Nope.

What a big girl! It definitely makes a huge difference. We had Jack in pre-K when he was 3, and we'll do the same for Dot. They get lots of interaction from all our traveling, and being at church 3 times a week. But I'm a big believer in at least doing play groups or something when you're a SAHM. Being around other kids is a huge part of learning how life works.

  • I'm really sad about the exotic animal story also. And did y'all hear this story about the pregnant woman with cancer? I'm gonna have to watch The Sing Off now just to feel less sad.
  • If today wasn't the last day of my work week, I might quit.  Yesterday I got so fired up at work that I said, "Someone just tell me if I need to go out and buy a Rosetta Stone so the next time we meet I can try a different language."  It just shouldn't have to be this hard.

Amanda- Your car is so pretty!

Leslie- Boo to your morning commute.  Glad you are okay. Oh, and I am dying to see the tile all finished.

Tiffany-  I want to see your finished tile project!

    Brianna-  Those sound yummy!

Sorry for everyone else I missed.  I am late to the game today and already checked out into vacation mode.

  • Anyone need a good cry?  This is the sweetest, kind of sad, story!

The Primrose in Bedford is $280/wk for an infant.  I was dead set on Caroline going there but once I found out the price I just could justify it.  I told DH we would do the church daycare until she was 1 1/2 and then look at Primrose again.  I worked at 4 different Primrose school and I know their standards and the training each teacher goes through.  I am not picky or someone that usually requires a specific "brand" but when it comes to daycares I'm a snob Embarrassed.  I just want her to start out on the right foot.  I don't want to be going through the same things we are with SD now with the next one if we can avoid it.

  • Okay, I'm going to post and run, but wanted to drop in:

Leslie, how scary, but glad you are okay.

Lauren, ugh, car troubles are no fun.

    Amanda, LOVE!

Kathy (if you're lurking), I loved the picture you posted.  Can't wait to see the rest!  Pregnancy looks beautiful on you!

My AW,  I get to go home today!  Yay!  I think DH and I are going to play hookey tomorrow afternoon to check out the fair before it is over.

Has anyone seen the previews for the new A&E show "Monster-In-Law"?  Looks like a total train wreck that I don't think I'll be able to stop myself from watching.  Couples, in-laws, do NOT get along, and therapists are involved.  Yikes.

Today has just been a good day so far.  Nothing in particular has happened, I am just happy!  I got a groupon for this bootcamp that I am considering doing.  But then I would have to get up at 5:30 in the morning.  I did a bootcamp last year and I really liked it, it was just hard to get up!

I don't know why but animal stories bother me so much.  I can't even watch those ASPCA commercials--I bawl my head off.

Not that human stories don't bother me also--they do for sure.  I know when a story is going to bother me and when I read it anyway, I hate myself!

Ok Carrollton ladies... anyone interested in boot camp?

Carrollton one is at "The Rock" church on Hebron on Tues/Thurs at 7 pm and Sat at 8 am.  Next one starts Nov 7th-Dec 3rd.   Dallas groupon today is for 1 month for $59.

I'm trying to talk DH into it too.

I am the exact same way.  I have to turn off the ASPCA commercials and when I hear the songs they play in them I just cry.  I am just especially sensitive to animals.  We got all of our animals from rescue groups and so I am a fan of theirs on facebook.  So they are always posting stories about pugs or boxers that need medical attention and they always tell their stories.  I know I should never read them and sometimes I do and it just makes me cry.  :-(  I can't read any of that stuff because it just sticks with me!

Tiffany- I am still considering the bootcamp in Carrollton!

Yes!  Thanks Sarah!  I just bought one.  I was thinking the North Dallas & HP ones, but I could make a 7pm class in Carrollton if others are doing it!

Nope! There are two at the same place... one is in the mornings.  It is listed separately but on that same page.

I would do mornings but there is no way I could get to work on time. :(

  • Yay!  I'm glad some of you guys are interested!  I want to go, but not by myself.  I asked my best friend and she said "Are you kidding me? I would die!"  Haha.

Chelsea -  I've been wanting to do one.  Mark and I did one that was only once a week (in addition to our regular workouts) at LA Fitness before our wedding and got some awesome results from it.  I can only imagine what 3x per week will do.  Mark is really disciplined in his workouts already though, so its hard to pin him down to something like this.

I couldn't really get into it because of all the abbreviations--it makes it so hard to read when you have to try and figure out what is what and who is who.

But as an aside, I don't understand why couples can't work things out.  "So, I've got a hoity-toity picnic this weekend--can we trade weekends?  Sure, no problem!" There, done.

Or maybe I missed the point--like I said, it was hard to follow.

Basically she didn't want to include her step son because she would then be required to drive him to the monthly events and she didn't want too.  What got me the most out of it was that they took family photos and she made her step son sit out of some of them because she was giving them to her parents and only wanted to include her "real family" and since step son wasn't her son he didn't belong in the picture.

And I agree about the changing weekends thing.  We do it all the time.  DH's ex will text and say something like "oldest daughter will be in town this weekend can we have sd that weekend?"  Ok sure no problem.  We want her a specific weekend for family stuff, no problem!

  • Oh Ok, then I definitely missed something.  I thought she was just worried because her husband was going to miss the picnic.

That's terrible.  She sounds like a real peach.
