Re: Can we talk Penn State?
If Penn State is graduating the kind of delusional, arrogant asses who are defending any of this, my kid won't see hide nor hair of the place in 18 years.
I can't even with any of this. Someone told Joe Pa that this guy was raping a kid in the shower, yet up until recently he still has key to the facilities and an office on campus. Even if it was never proven, it isn't like Sandusky has a constitutional right to be the creepy old perv on campus. Joe Pa could have done whatever he wanted, and honestly no one would have questioned it.
I actually almost threw up watching those douchebag frat boys rallying outside of Joe Pa's house. And the fact that he came out, SMILED, and then had the brass balls to say "Beat Nebraska". This arrogant, narcissistic, senile old bag is directly responsible for this because he spent sixty years fostering a culture where it could happen, and where a bunch of idiots were taught that football trumps everything else.
Also, this has done nothing to help my "the middle of Pennsylvania is filled with idiot rednecks" bias.
Does anyone know if college employees are Mandated Reporters?
As an HS educator in PA, I am required to report to the authorities if I suspect any kind of abuse. I am legally responsible if an investigation proves that I knew it was happening and didn't report. I wonder if JoePa and Co are held to the same standard, and if they aren't, is it because they are at the college level?
Also, I actually do give the grad assistant a pass. He was there as an undergrad, right? So essentially since he was 17/18 he knew Sandusky? Clear Sandusky was a pro a grooming and abuse - I would not be shocked if plenty of kids who he encountered were intimidated or manipulated by him, even if it wasn't obvious sexual abuse.
From what I read, they are only mandated reporters if it happens to a child under their care.
They are not mandated reporters when it comes to a child not technically affiliated with the school.
They are however, I have to believe, in direction violation of The Clery Act, which requires them to report crimes on campus. Besides fines, institutions can actually be suspended from the federal financial aid program for failure to comply, which screws tons of students.
Except of course for football players on full athletic scholarships who don't have to worry about that stuff.
We could care less about the game. We're really just getting together with friends we haven't seen in a really long time. I'm going b/c we make a whole weekend out of it, and my friend's parents live in a mansion that's fully catered with staff. We see it as a vacation!
Edit: We just got an email from my friend and we aren't going to the game anymore. That will save DH from getting in a fight with a frat boy.
FoxPhilly is reporting there could be 17 more victims coming forward. Sadly, I think there will be even more than that.

If it does not come out he assaulted a recruit or player I will eat.my.hat.
i wouldn't go to a game if you paid me.
I don't get this sentence :
The resignation announcement begins:
"I am absolutely devastated by the developments in this case. I grieve for the children and their families, and I pray for their comfort and relief.
What are the developments that are devastating? that there are more than just the one child that was raped in the shower? Or that it has become public.
Wasn't his contract up anyway? big deal, his retiring. get off the damnn field now.
This is the quote that got me:
"Tough life when people do certain things to you. But, anyway, you guys have been great," Paterno said.
(in response to the pep rally of idiots outside his house)
I think the thing that gets me the most is this:
I read the GJ indictment. There were multiple instances where people interrupted 'suspicious' incidents and a few instances of blatant sexual abuse and rape.
All I can imagine is those poor kids thinking, "Ok, an adult has just seen this. They're going to do something about this and help me".
And it never happened for them. It makes me want to cry.
NOT TO MENTION, this guy created a charity to be a pipeline of underprivileged kid to assault. Many of them already lacked parental support or a father figure.
I agree with what a lot of you guys are saying. The whole thing is a big cover up. Joe truly felt that what he did was telling his superiors was enough which is really sad. Whether he was threatened to keep it to themselves or chose to not alert the authorities is sick. All those teachings of his kids of morals and stuff goes right out the window now. That's what is done in all industries though...people cover to protect themselves. What really gets to me though is the fact that they were stupid enough to think that the situation would actually go away and would never come back to haunt them. I mean, how many kids involved? Did they not think that not one would start accusing Sandusy. Stupid. Joe is just as guilty and he should be gone right now as well. It's sick and I am very saddened that he helped cover it up. As much as I am so saddened to hear about it, I am just in amazed that he just flushed his whole legacy down the toilet with one stupid move. So many people respected him. My heart goes out to those kids and families that were involved with this.
How could anyone seriously not know?? And what about Sandusky's wife? I am so dumbfounded that she had no idea what was going on. I mean, a bed in the basement and she had no idea her husband was going down there all the time?
Where the heck is the DA too from back way when? He vanished. Very odd.
