Re: It Feels Like Friday randoms

  • My husband is working today.
  • We have a Thanksgiving lunch today & then we should be able to go home after that. I took Monday off, so I have a 5 day weekend. Woo hoo!

Today is Kita's, my oldest child, birthday. She's 14!! (For those who don't know, Kita is my dog.)

    Ben & Shana - August 27, 2005
  • Hi!  I'm very much looking forward to the long weekend.  And I'm getting more excited about going home for Thanksgiving now.  I was kind of bumming about it, but it will be nice.

  • Greetings!

I'm attempting to bring the girls to a fun location today, but one that they could potential run in two different directions and cause me to look like a crazy mom getting after them the whole time. Eeek! I hope they behave.

I receive an update from their daycare yesterday about all the teacher changes, which makes me feel better that she actually sent a note home.

Also the teachers don't get a morning break, so the bagel idea woudn't work. Darn...Costco has great prices for bagels. I was going to do bagels, muffins, and fruit.  Maybe I will still do the bagels

  • Yay for "Friday"!

I am hopefully leaving early today as well.  Big Smile

  • Whoops, I was going to cut part of my last post and put it in a new post.

So...I'm thinking of stil doing the muffins and fruit (not bagel). I figured that is something they could eat with their lunch.

Sometimes TH is so much like he dad but he doesn't realize it. I was sharing my bagel idea with him and he said "I saw a stack of snack tins for $15 at Costco. Let's get that and call it good."  Indifferent  I tried explaining to him that we need to spend more than that, esp since we have two girls that go there.  I just said I will take a look at it. I will go to Costco next week and get several things.  He then said "we already spend X amount a week. We don't need to go broke buying things for them."    "Ok, 'insert FIL's name', isn't that the same therory your dad has when it comes to tipping and you get pissed at him?"  (I didn't say that to him)

Gotta go..the girls are beating each other up.

  • Oh my goodness, when I saw the word Friday, I actually thought it was Friday for a second. Yikes...my brain is melting. My DH also is working today. They sometimes let them leave an hour early, but not much.

  • Today really does feel like Friday here because the day is scheduled like a Friday.  But I'll be hanging out until late tonight working on my outlines.  Yay Finals...
  • Happy birthday Kita! Good luck gvsu. Where are you headed? Today N and I are just going to a friend's house! Low key is what I need today after a crazy day of errands yesterday.

Eh.  I'm an hourly employee so working a full day today and Friday isn't a huge deal.  I would rather get paid.  I didn't plan on Black Friday shopping anyway Stick out tongue

Transition went really well going back to work.  There were a LOT of changes while I was gone, but nothing crazy.  I enjoy being back.  I'm actually not sad at all dropping DD off at daycare.  She seems to do really well there.

  • I'll be working tonight, boooooo.  We are getting up early tomorrow and leaving for Flint at 9am to start the day's festivites :)  DH has to work all weekend, so Ben and I are staying with friends until sunday.

I don't know if this was intended to be funny, but your frank wording made me chuckle.  (Assuming that they're not seriously injuring each other, of course.)

  • I'm excited for dinner tonight.  Western scramble with toast.

  • I'm looking forward to seeing the Muppets movie. A friend of mine got a sneak preview and said it's awesome. Hoping I don't look weird being an adult with my husband and no kids. Maybe I'll borrow our friends'. :-)
  • I'm also excited to bust out the Starbucks Christmas blend coffee tomorrow morning with our donut holes.

I love Muppet movies!  I want to see Arthur Christmas too.

  • Wendy, you will not be the only adults w/ no kids at the movies.  The Muppets *belong* to our generation.  Go, and revel in the absurdity of our youth.

Last night I made most of Willa's tooth fairy pillow.  There's an urgency, as I don't think that tooth has much time in her gum.  She saw it before I could show her, and packed it already.

I'm writing out my shopping list for the cole slaw.  I'm dreading the grocery store.  Maybe I'll pack a full flask for myself.  ;)

It's going to be so nice tomorrow at the parade, that I don't need to go through the attic today for Henry's boots and snowpants.  YAY!  I can do that over the weekend.

  • Thanksgiving Break for School Started to Today. We rented a PS3 game for SS for a few days to give him something else to do.

I also picked up a CD from the Library of "florence & the machine". So I'll be listening to that later on today as I prep food for tomorrow.

Yay for FurTeen bday's ( at 14 I'm not sure if fur-baby is correct).

I also want to see The Muppets. LOVE THEM!!!

Our work schedule is light today so maybe we can pick up the last few things at the office and bring them home.

  • Working today...both at Job 1 and Job 2. And at Job 3 tomorrow. Happy Thanksgiving to me.

It cracked me up, too. Seriously hilarious.

But aren't the prices way reduced at Costco? Personally, I don't think this sounds like a bad idea. It's like when I shop with a coupon or during big sales - if I get my mom a $45 sweater but only pay $10 for it, I don't feel bad about "only" paying that much. She's still getting something that's a $45 value. I don't think you need to focus on the price as much as the value/quantity of what you are giving. Just some thoughts.

I agree with Chymes.  I think a snack tin for both rooms the girls are in would suffice.

I plan on getting my DCP a $25 gc and calling it good, FWIW.

It's not so much the price but the amount of stuff.  Those tins aren't enough to feed 25+, even just a few bites. Usually those types of containers are twice the size they need to be. You open it up and there is a mini bag in there.

If I'm going to go the snack route, it will be something I have to put in the break room and allow everyone to have access to it.  If I was just doing one gift per teacher, I wouldn't mind spending $15.

  • We survived our trip to the Children's Musuem. We did good until the end and then they hit a brick wall  (literally). Allison threw a temper tamtrum at the bubble area and then Amelia didn't want to leave the craft area. I knew my time was up at the meter so I'm trying to get all of us out as quickly as we can. As we were leaving, Mia ran in front of Allison, tripping her and causing Allison to fall head first into the glass door and brick wall.  Luckily no blood and brusing (as I see now). So there I have one kid on the floor bawling, another kid headed out the door and a pile of art project strewn across the floor.  Thank goodness for a nice worker who came to help me.  Ladie is you ever see a mom struggle and you have a minute, offer some help and a kind smile. It does a world of good.

I think Allison and I will do movie time during her nap. She appears to be fine, but just in case, I don't to put her down for a nap.

Ahh, that makes more sense.  I didn't realize you were buying for 25 people.  (And holy crap, that's a lot of people!)

  • GVSU, sounds like a fun outing until your gals hit the wall (literally).  Hope injury doesn't linger, and yay for helpful strangers.

Henry and I just made this: http://www.bigredkitchen.com/2008/11/two-ingredients-pumpkin-cake-with-apple.html

Thanks, Pinterest.  We'll see how it turns out.  I made one w/ yellow cake and one with carrot cake.  I'm undecided about the glaze.  Any better suggestions?

We also made a double batch of beer bread. He was a great helper, pouring the beer into the bowl.  It's a baking and washing the dogs kind of early afternoon.
