Mine isn't either, and I don't think I did anything to do that...

  • I don't have a city or state here, but I don't on TK either.  No clue why.

    You're a Jessica too?  I don't think I knew that!

I am!  Now I feel creepy for knowing that you're a Jessica.  I don't remember when I learned that.

Well, I did just say it in this thread.  So you can always pretend you JUST found out ;)  And people like Fishy and MuSu and kd.joseph call me "jess" on a pretty regular basis.  So that's probably it!

  • Hi everyone!

The knot is just too difficult to keep up with!

    image
  • I have another current irritation.  Maybe some of you have some suggestions to help this one?

I have NO clue what to get my dad for Christmas and its making me crazy. He's so hard to shop for because he loves to shop himself and just buys himself whatever he wants/needs. He likes astronomy and his boat and booze.

  • Wow, JK.  That is ten kinds of shitty.  I'd be furious if I was you too.  That's a pretty rational irritation.

    Hi everyone.

  • What kind of booze?  Can you get him a really nice bottle of his favorite booze?

My grandfather is the same way! I just end up getting him a gift card, it's just easier. Of course then he grumbles that I spent money on him...no pleasing the man!

  • Guys, thank you for making me feel not crazy about being so angry about my grandma.  I love her, she's my grandma, but it's kind of ridiculous.  It's not worth it to say anything to her about it, so I just needed to vent :)

I don't know if he has a favorite kind.

Maybe I'll get him a nice bottle of whiskey and a set of whiskey stones?

Even if it isn't the GREATEST GIFT EVER, he's bound to appreciate alcohol, right?

    image
  • I'll go with that explanation, J&K.  Can it be next Thursday now?  H's work Christmas party is at one of my favorite restaurants, then it's probably an early day on Friday, and then it's my birthday.  I still haven't figured out where we're going for the dinner to celebrate my birth.  It's a biitch finding someplace that's open.

  • MUN -- A few years ago, when my H and I were first dating, he had no idea what to get for my dad.  He went to the liquor store my father usually get his wine from, and asked the cashier to recommend a more upscale wine than he usually has.  She was familiar with his taste and gave him a few recommendations of some nicer red wines than he usually would pay for.  Can you do that for your dad?  Maybe find out what he usually drinks, then go to the liquor store and ask them to give you a nicer option of something related?

    Not crazy at all!

And best to vent on the internet to us instead of to your family :D

  • Boat presents for your dad.....towels, with the name of the boat embroidered on them.  Quick dri towels for keeping the boat clean.  Rod holders if he is a fisherman....thats all I have!
  • MUN I'm pretty sure that would be an appreciated gift!

I think that's reasonable. My dad likes wine and chocolate, so last year my sister got him some chocolate wine. Whatever works, yeah?

Since Igot here from the irrational irritations thread, I'm putting mine here.

My grandma is being so passive aggressive about my last name.  "Proper women" take their husbands' last names, so she refuses to acknowledge that I did not change mine.  She kept writing me checks written to "Jessica H-last name" even though we told her about 7 times that I couldn't cash them.  My bank was being a PITA too.  Finally, the last time, I didn't want to fight with the bank, or just hold on to the check, so I sent it back to her with a note that said "Thank you so much for thinking of me, I appreciate it, but I can't cash this because this isn't my legal name.  If you really want to use "H-last name" you can make checks out to him and he can cash them for us."

I just got a Christmas card from her.  The envelope says "Jessica RealLastName (and Kyle)."

FUUCKING SERIOUSLY?!  So, if you acknowledge I didn't change my last name, you refuse to acknowledge my HUSBAND?!

    Your grandma be cray cray.

That's messed up, J, but Edie made me do a chuckle-snort.

That's a great idea... I'll have mom do some snooping through the wine for me...

I do like to get people a more upscale version of something they already use/buy than what they'd ordinarily get themselves.

I have no advice but I feel your frustration. My sister is the same way. It was so annoying. I finally just bought her some pajamas, slippers, and other random crap so I could just be done with it. It didn't help that whenever I asked her what she wanted she said, "Oh. Nothing really".  I was just like "***, tell me something. Anything!"  She didn't so she's getting pajamas.

  • I would talk to the doctor about it, maybe there is another kind that would be better.

    Yep, you probably do.

Do you exfoliate and moisturize?  That works WAY better for me than anything else.

Also, thanks guys for helping me sort out a gift for Dad.  I was a little worried that alcohol wasn't a great "Dad" gift, but I feel better about it now!

  • Sorry to P&R ladies, but I am kinda grumpy, rather than spread my grumpiness around, I am going to leave work early, go home, and take a nap.  Hopefully I will wake up in a better frame of mind and do some christmas shopping tonight and wrapping!
  • Edie, I'm also very irritated with my skin. It is so red and dry. I feel really ugly. :(
