I just need to cry for a minute

I just need to get this out. I am REALLY struggling with life right now. DH's unemployment ran out, they fuccked mine up, so we've been living on $21 since Dec 27. DH broke a tooth and it's going to be $1300 to get it fixed - and he has to get it fixed because he's in so much pain he can't even open his mouth. I have a job interview on Thursday for a job that they basically told me I wasn't going to get but I'm driving down to the Springs for it anyway because I need to feel like we're doing SOMETHING. DH finally got a response on one of the now 100+ applications he's sent since Christmas, and it's for a job in Seattle. They want him to come interview, but now we need to find $500 to send him there because it's the only bite he's gotten and not having a job is literally breaking him. And I'm terrified to move away from our families, even though we may not have a choice.

It feels like everything is caving in right now - I'm panicking over every dime, no one is responding to any of the stuff I listed on craigslist to try and get some money for bills & DH's tooth, and I am seriously, majorly, big time freaking out. We are minutes away from losing everything we've worked so hard for, and all I want to do is crawl into a corner and cry. I can't stop any of it, I can't fix any of it, and apparently I can't even get a fuccking job to try and feed my family.

Sorry for the giant verbal vomit - I just had to get it all out of my head, and will probably DD this at some point.

Honestly, I'm super impressed you haven't vented before like this!  Whenever you post about employment, I always wonder how you are doing it and know it must be super hard.

After my DH lost his job a little over a year ago, he was a grumpy, cranky mess.  I didn't realize how much a having a good job is drilled into men's psyche as critical to having a good family life.  It's different than for women.  I wish I had some true advice, but I don't.

    (((hugs)))

I think DH has a United voucher that is transferrable, I am pretty sure we won't be using it before it expires.  Let me know if you want me to ask him about it...

edited, I accidentally put a smiley instead of a frowny, FAIL!

It's never been this bad before. But with my unemployment messed up, we literally have NO income, and have gone through the very last of our savings. I'm just at the end of what I can take - I have no reserves of anything left. No money, no optimism, and very few options. Thank god for my parents - they took me grocery shopping and filled my gas tank. Otherwise we'd be in even worse shape (scary that we could go even lower. . . ).

I am SO sorry - and I am dead serious, what can we do to help?  Is there anything you need right now that we could get you? Would some dinners help?  Baby stuff?  Bottles of Wine?  (hey, it is always the first place Keri goes.)

You can vent here as much as you need - and I'm lifting you guys up in my prayers, but the great thing about girlfriends is we want to swoop in and help in actionable ways.

Can we at least help you look for cheap airfare for DH?

It is so scary being out of work.  I remember when Todd was out of work, it was the only time I have seen him cry when someone hadn't died.  I know he felt totally helpless about our family, and I know how scared we both were.

We are here, and I know we would all love to help our friend.

Yeah, ditto. My H is unemployed, and I know how stressful it is. If we had nothing at all coming in, I would freak. What can we do?

Thank you. Really. Just knowing that I have people to listen helps a ton. I found reasonably cheap airfare to Seattle, and a cheap hotel for a night since the interview is hours long. I'll ask my dad or go sell some jewelry if I have to - he has to go. And if slc2b's DH has a voucher it will be even cheaper.

I may come crying for a happy hour at some point. My birthday is next week and I know my parents are giving me money - I may need to take a little of it and actually LEAVE the house for a change.

Thank you for listening. Thank you for offering. Thank you for being my friend.

Well you know I will come running for a HH - and speaking of when Todd was out of work, I know some STUPID cheap HH places from that time in our lives.  :)  (Deals in Denver basically started out as a place for me to point out cheap places to drink.)

But don't be afraid to ask for anything else - even if it just keeping eyes open for good prices or coupons, etc for products you have to have so you can horde them - with a kiddo I find I do A LOT of that.

I think you have to go to the airport to use it.  It is actual paper voucher they gave him for agreeing to take a later flight.  I think it is $300.  We paid nothing for it, and DH only waited an hour for the next flight so we are not missing out on anything :)

  • Big hugs girl. I sent you an email.
  • I am so sorry. I can't imagine feeling what you are feeling, and am impressed you are holding up as well as you are and you haven't vented more.

My first instinct is to ask how I (or we) can help? I know it's not easy to ask, but is there anything that any of us can give/provide to you that would help with the everyday stuff or getting your DH to Seattle, please let us know.

Just throwing out some ideas that come to mind:

Which grocery store do you shop at, can we buy or give you gift cards there or anywhere else? What do you need for DD (clothes, diapers, shoes, etc)? Do you need anything for your interview (clothes, shoes, etc.)?

Have you looked into energy assistance through xcel for your utilities?

Please feel free to post a new post with a list of things you need, I'm sure the Nesties will step up to help you in any way we can.

  • You guys are all amazing. Thank you - this was not at all what I expected when I posted, and I can't tell you how much it helps just to feel like I have a community around me.

Right now, we don't need anything. DD had diapers and enough clothes until spring (and my parents will always, always, always buy what she needs. No questions asked). DH & I have all the "things" we need. I'm freaked out about basics, but we have enough food in the house to last a couple of weeks, and I'll work on Xcel/insurance/etc as we go. The last time I checked on Xcel help, our UE was too much to qualify us, but now that we have none (please God, let them fix mine. Then I'll get 4 weeks of back pay), we should qualify.

I'm lucky to be a part of this group of women - thank you, more then I can say.

My background is in training, digital advertising (more management then actual sales), SEO/SEM, and business development. DH's background is heavily social services - he has 13 years of experience working with sex offenders, has been a correctional officer and done investigative work. He was also a retail manager, and has lots of experience in loss prevention. We're looking for anything that pays more then the gas it costs us to get there!
