Is this a NJ thing or are my friends tacky?

Re: Is this a NJ thing or are my friends tacky?

  • I don't open presents at parties. If I do it's usually after most have left and the few remaining relatives are left behind to see them open. Our parties are a clusterf of kids who rip open the presents, the boxes, the cards are all mixed up. If some find it rude so be it. I just like to see what gifts my child was given/ who they are from and that way I can ensure a proper thank you note is written the following week. My nieces and nephews are more excited to "open" the girl's presents then my kids are. If someone asks me to open their gift I will.

LOL I dont care either way. Personally I find it boring as Sh!t to sit there and watch a kid with no clue whatsoever open presents for an hour. But have sat through it and clapped like a good sport too.
    Agree.

Maeve's party is tomorrow. We'll probably put off opening the presents until after most of the guests have left. It's just easier since most of the kids want to play with said toys before she's opened them all.

We don't open gifts at E's parties because I don't give them all to him. 25 kids are coming to his party. He doesn't need 25 gifts at once. I spread them out over the year. His parties have been at places where there is an hour and a half and they don't expect or give you time to open gifts. I've never been to one where they do.

ONE kid opened presents while we were there for their 2nd birthdays. It was awful. my kid and like 5 others had to be taken to another room to be occupied because they threw a fit. Why? Because what two year old understands he can't play with those? What a pain in the ass for me as the parent of NOT the birthday kid. If it was at someone's house, I'd rather leave during the present opening time than deal with that.

  • We did presents throughout the party for er 1st and 2nd... as she was interested.  It was too much to do them all at once.  however, my girlfriend never does it at any of her kids' parties, and I don't mind - it can be boring to watch anyone open a whole bunch of presents in a row.  If I am really excited about a present I got them (like the year they got MOPTOPMAVEN princess clip pies), I just make them open it wen I get there, lol.
