Since it's slow and there are some new people, lets introduce or RE introduce ourselves. Tell a little about you and your pets.
I'll go first
Hello, I'm sakelp! I live in Indiana, and I'm a teacher. I have been married for about a year and a half. We have 2 dogs: Cosmo a black lab and Doby an Australian Kelpie.
I got Cosmo with my ex boyfriend from a byb when I was a sophomore in college. That was before I knew about all the dogs (especially labs) waiting for homes in shelters and rescues. When my bf and I broke up, she came with me, and we have lived happily ever after ever since. She is 6 years old, and starting to turn a little bit gray on her muzzle, which makes me sad bc she's becoming an old lady.
Doby came From Lean On Me Doberman rescue. We got him in September of 2010. At the time they told us he was a Doberman/GSD mix, but after talking with Katiescats and doing some research we realized that he is indeed a Kelpie. He is 2 years old, and has finally learned how to be a good dog like his big sister. He has also gone from a very independent puppy to a VEEEERRRRYYYY snuggly man. He likes to lay on top of you whenever possible and will grumble and talk to you when you show your displeasure about being squished by 80 pounds of dog.
Now its your turn to share about yourself and your pets! .....GO!
Re: intro/ RE introductions!
Hello!
I'm Breaness, real name Breanna, shortened is Brea (said Bree).
I live in Maryland with my husband and we both work in video production. Through our career path we've had some really awesome opportunities! I've worked for the NFL for the last two years as a freelance video editor, and I worked Super Bowl XLV. DH has worked the last two Olympics and he's going to be working this summer's Olympics in London, among other nifty things.
We have one spoiled kitten, Sherlock, who is almost no longer a kitten, so I'm calling him that as long as I can. He'll be one year old in February, and we adopted him in late November.
I grew up with 2 cats at my mom's house and both are still around. They are named Spunky and Checkers.
I tend to not be a dog person because of a scary experience with a large dog as a child, but I'm warming to them more and more these days
Life and Love at #16 | our married life blog
I live in Oregon, and am an office manager for a small company, until I land a job relevant to my degree.
I am the treasurer and very active member for a local pit bull rescue, and also foster for them.
I am married, own a house, and recently added a roommate.
For animals, we have:
Dogs:
Bueller-3 yo male boxer mix-just started on Prozac this past Saturday. He is a mama's boy, very handsy, and a total goofball. He came from Pixie Project.
Piper- 16 month old pit bull/american bull dog mix. She was a foster fail and is the most food motivated dog I've ever met. She loves all people, dogs, cats, and anything else fuzzy. She likes to burrow under the covers between Dh and me, and sleeps with her head next to mine on my pillow. She will be starting agility classes in the next month. Piper came from Born Again Pit Bull Rescue and was a foster failure.
Elsie-our long term foster pit bull type dog foster. She is around 4 years old, smart as a whip, incredibly athletic and snuggly. We're going to be starting flyball back up with her in the next month, and may end up adopting her eventually.
Cats:
Everest-4 1/2 year old female grey tabby. DH's kitty through and through. She is about 7 pounds, and had been at the shelter in a cage for 11 months (after being returned twice for litter box issues), before we got her, because she reportedly did not get along with other cats. We have never had litter box issues with her, and she loves to snuggle on the couch and computer chair. Her favorite meat is rabbit. Everest came from Cat Adoption Team.
Ferris aka Flufferbutts-Long haired tuxedo-about 18 months old. We fostered a mama cat and her litter in September 2010, and Ferris and Elliot came from that litter. He can be a bit of a bully, so we've been working on that. He does not like to be picked up, but loves hours of rough pats. Hearts and chicken drumsticks are his favorite. Ferris came from Cat Adoption Team.
Elliot aka Kitton-Short haired tuxedo-about 18 months. Elliot is our best cat. He's also my heart kitty. He follows me wherever I go, and sleeps on the bed next to me at night (brave boy sleeping with DH, three dogs, Everest, and me, all on a queen bed). If I sit down, he's on my lap, and he loves to be carried like a baby. I've actually debated getting a sling to carry him in so I can get chores done around the house more efficiently. His favorite food is liver. He came from Cat Adoption Team.
Olive-short haired tuxedo, about 18 months. She was from a feral colony I am the caretaker for. She came into our house as a completely wild cat around 8 months of age, and has since become the glue that holds our kitties together. She is loved and played with by all three cats, and is becoming more comfortable and social with DH and me every day. I can pick her up, give her scratches, and lots of pats. It will be interesting to see how far she has come on her 1 year anniversary in our house.

Hi... I'm new(ish) I guess... kind of a casual poster, but always like to check out the great dog-related advice on pets!
H and I are Americans temporarily living in Italy for work for a few years.
We adopted a beautiful English Setter, Lucy, who was about 2-3yrs then and is now 4-5 (I like to say 4
). Lucy's really sweet tempered, very mild and mellow.
Her fun fact is that b/c she's so calm, we can pretty much take her anywhere and do! She's even got her own EU-pet passport (it's pretty much just proof that she's current on shots, but it really does say pet passport). She's been to Austria, Spain, France, all over mainland Italy (Venice, Florence, Rome, Tuscany, Bologna, Bolzano, Cinque Terra, etc) and even taken the ferry to Sicily!
While it will be nice to move back home, it's going suck not being able to take her to restaurants and hotels.
Hi, I'm ali2005jason aka Alison. I also live in Indiana. I am a stay at home mom to Caleb who is 9 and Aurora who is 4. I've been married for almost 4 years. We have one dog Magic and a gerbil named Cinnamon.
Magic is 6 years old and we've had him since the day he was born. We took in his mother as a stray and found out the hard way that she was not spayed. She ended up having 9 puppies! Yikes! He is a very sweet and gentle dog. If he gets annoyed with the kids, he'll get up and walk away. He thinks he is my shadow and follows me everywhere!
We got Cinnamon 1 1/2 years ago along with another gerbil named Sugar. Unfortunately, Sugar died this past August. We thought about getting another since gerbils are social animals but I was afraid of staggering them and always having only one gerbil. After talking to some pet stores for information, we decided to just keep Cinnamon by herself and make sure to give her plenty of chew toys and attention. She seems to be doing just fine!
We are also in the process of adopting another dog. We are in search of a young female dachshund. I thought we had found one but turns out someone was already approved and adopted the puppy and the puppy's sister. I was happy for them but sad for us. Oh well, the search continues!
I look forward to getting to "know" everyone!
I'm answering questions in the post below as well -- but I'll give you all the overview!
I live in Minneapolis. I am a research psychologist - I study how to improve the delivery of mental health services. I just got married in October. We had been together for 13 years before we got married - so it was a long time coming!
We have two pups. We have a lab mix named Sadie. She is 5 years old -- we adopted her four years ago when she was 1.5. She had a rough start to life, so she can be a bit anxious and skittish, but she is the sweetest dog I've ever known.
We also have Winston, a St. Bernard, who we adopted this summer. He is 2. He was a foster-failure. My DH fell in love with him and after he got adopted out and returned once, he decided he couldn't give him up again. Over the past month, Sadie & Winston have started to become really good friends. They play several times a day & are often found cuddling on the couch (like my siggy pic). It makes me so happy and I think it's helping Sadie become a more confident dog.
Andplusalso, we are going to Hawaii in 2 weeks -- which is not related to anything, but I'm really excited!
Hello everyone (again)! I'm ndolehan (or Nichole) and I'm 25. I live in Mid-Michigan currently but I've also lived in Northern Michigan (my favorite!) and the Upper Peninsula near Canada.
H and I were married on October 8, 2011 and recently moved from a townhouse to a house-house (as I call it, anyway) we do rent, but are incredibly lucky with this house - it has a HUGE fenced in yard!
I work in the Restaurant Industry. I'm a Pasty Chef at a local hotel. We have a restaurant (I just completed the entire specials menu for Valentines Day - so I do much much more than desserts) and we also have a huge banquet facility and every few weekends we have beautiful weddings for which we prepare scrumptious food!
I love reading (and my Nest boards!). I can be very sarcastic but I like to think I'm pretty funny too!
We have four furbabies:
Jasper: we adopted J in July. He was a therapy dog at the Youth Facility H works at. The kids trained him etc - he even has a certificate for completing the program and a journal of his progress that the kids wrote in! We weren't supposed to get another dog - but J kinda bought him without telling me. I was a bit upset at first - but I couldn't say no to his cuteness! He's not the brightest crayon in the box, but I love him!
Dakota: she's our 4 year old smart puppy!
She's a mixed breed from a local humane society. H has had her since she was a puppy (before we were together) they told him she was a German Shepherd, so he thought he was getting this Big Manly dog...and...no...just NO!
Rosco: he's my kitty! Super hyper, energetic, and i love him to death! Not always cuddly, but there's always something amusing about him. He's getting over a cold right now (we think either allergies or a straight kitty-cold). He's MUCH better today! He had a watery (clear) eye last night, but I think it was his sinuses draining. No signs of any of this today and almost no sneezing!
and...
BENNY: He is my bunny! 4 years old, had him before H and I we together. He's got an attitude and is a grumpy old man, but cuter than cute, he's a dwarf lop! He's a fatty and if you try to take his food he will lunge/try to nip.
Hi guys!
I'm Ali and my DH and I have been married for 2 1/2 years and live in Kentucky. I work in Admissions at a community college and am hoping to get a permanent job here that I just interviewed for so that they will pay for me to get started on my masters degree in the fall. DH graduated from law school in May and currently works as a staff attorney for a local judge.
We just have Bella, a 2 year old boxer/beagle/pug mix that we rescued in July 2010. She has made our lives complete
We look forward to hopefully buying a home soon so that we'll be able to foster again and adopt dog number 2! I am not as active in rescue right now since we moved away from the rescue I was fostering for (and can only have one pet at our rental house), but I do try to help out with transports as often as possible.
Hello. I'm ARO. DH and I have been married for a little over three years. He works in IT for a group of hospitals. I'm currently in nursing school. Will be done, God willing, in September(!!).
We have two dogs: Roxie: 6 year old lab/pit/?? mix and Sable: 7-8 year old chow/shepherd mix.
Three cats: Lucky, 6 year old dilute tortie. Mocha: 8-9 year old Siamese mix. Penny: 11 year old DLH.
And I take care of the ferals I've been posting about. About 17 of them.

<a href="http://www.thenest.com/?utm_source=ticker&utm_medium=HTML&utm_campaign=tickers" title="Home DKristin here (like that wasn't obvious from the screenname). I've been married a little over 2 years and live in NY. DH and I both work for the same company doing IT, but we don't work directly together.
In August of 2009 we agreed to take our shetland sheepdog(potentially a mix, but for all we know he is just sheltie) from a hoarder who works with my father. A bunch of people convinced the lady that she needed to reduce her number of pets, and helped pay to have some of the remaining ones spayed/neutered. We took what we thought at the time to be a 10 or 11 month old puppy - turns out, he was only 4 or 5 months.
Patches is a huge part of our lives now - he does agility and flyball and is just a goofball in general.
Hey All! I'm a 29-y/o assistant editor at an international physician's membership organization, living in PA with my H of 2 1/2 years (been together 11 1/2!). I do freelance editing on the side, as well as liquour promotions (I look cute and hand out samples to get people to drink what we want them to drink, lol!).
We've been in our house for 3 1/2 years, and started adding pets shortly after moving in.
First was Scamp. I took her from my friend, who decided to move into an apartment where she couldn't afford the pet deposit (ugh). We got her at about 1 year old, already front declawed. She's some sort of parti-tabby/torti-tabby; her coloring is wonky! She's nearly 4 now and a total and complete lover. She's my snuggle cat for sure!
Next we got Sammy. She's a black DSH, possibly a little Bombay in there? She was part of a litter a friend of H's found at mere weeks old, mama nowhere to be found. She took them in and found homes for all. We brought her home at just 5 or 6 weeks old (his friend was getting them homed ASAP; don't think she really knew much about keeping them together). She was so teensy! She's grown up to be a total alpha cat. She ruled the place when it was just her and Scamp. She's a psycho at times, and rather comedic, and quite the AW! Since she was sick a couple of weeks ago, her snuggly side has come out BIG TIME! She's come to curl up with me more in the last couple of weeks than I think she did in the entire last year.
Finally, there's Zoey! She's our Boxer puppy, 9 months old this coming weekend. She has been a total joy! I love having her around, and she's incredibly affectionate. She loves tearing around the backyard, flinging her toys through the air and then running after them, and lying rightontopofyou when she decides it's time to curl up. She's a total mama's girl (hehehe), and I just love how her entire body wiggles and bends around when she's excited. It cannot be contained in her little nub tail!

I'm MaineRocks and I live in the greater Boston area. I work full time in marketing. I've been married for almost 5 years to a man who never had a pet in his life... I don't think he knew what he was getting himself into since my whole family is animal crazy
)
I have 3 cats currently. I just lost my heart cat in November and my heart still aches from the loss. He left behind his sister Lily, an 11 year old long-haired calico. To be honest, she's a bit of a bump on a log, but I love her like crazy just the same. I got her when she was around 9 months old, when I graduated from college and got my first apartment.
I just adopted 2 kittens this month. Both around 5 months old. Spencer is a short haired tuxedo, found at 5 weeks after a hurricane and lived in the shelter while they treated an eye injury. His eye is still not right, but he does fine with it. He's still very shy at my house, but when you get him close, he snuggles so much it's like he wants to crawl under your skin. He's going to be my love bug I think.
Cooper is a long haired tuxedo and has a bit of a twitch, that seems to have lessened since I adopted him. He's a bit of an odd duck although I can't quite put my finger on why. He loves to be with us. He follows us everywhere and has no fear of my toddler, which is awesome. He pretty much acted like this was home on day one. The shelter says he's "slow" and my vet says sometimes the slow ones make the best pets. ;-)
My LO is also an animal lover and comes to the shelter with me (I volunteer). He has no fear of dogs barking loudly behind cages or anything, and he is incredibly gentle with animals. He knows the shelter inside and out and loves going almost as much as his momma ;-) I also volunteer for a GSP rescue but the work there is just occasional. My family is GSP crazy. I grew up with dogs, cats and horses also. It's no surprise I hang out on the Pets board!
I was a reg, now I am in and out (that's what she said!!!)
I am owned by a blind Toy Fox Terrier. He was the epitome of how to do things wrong - purchased from a pet store and as a Christmas present. But I love him to death anyway! He is currently having some slipped disk issues (because apparently he didn't have enough going on just being blind) so we are trying acupuncture. It has been a dream, and I wish I would have tried it sooner!
I am also owned by the goofy and loveable Doberslut Maxim. We rescued him from the Dumb Friends League. He is an amazing big brother to Buddy, and a true Doberman - from his doberlean, to his extremely wayyyy too smart for his own good stupidity, to his velcro personality, to his "don't mess with my mama" protectiveness. He recently had a tumor removed, but otherwise is in perfect health (thank goodness because Buddy is a full-time project).
Maxim is in my sig, but here is Buddy:
I was wondering how Spencer was doing. Glad to hear he's handling it all well. YGPM.
I'm Katie...clearly. I love sakelp and her Doby, and he is the only other Kelpie I know in real life or in internet life.
My H and I live in Ohio, by way of California, and we're originally from Maryland. I miss Maryland so much. Married almost 3 years, together for 7.
Our pets, in order of their acquisition:
Petey (7) and Max (9): These are our boy cats. They've been in love since the day they met. We got them on May 11, 2006 from Howard County Animal Control. H picked out Max and I picked out Petey. They are beautiful, but their long hair is a PITA. They are bff and their nightly routine involves a solid 45 minutes of mutual grooming.
Petey:
Max:
Alice (8): We found her on January 9, 2007. She was skinny and pregnant, and had all sorts of parasites. We fostered her as she gave birth via C-section to 7 kittens (one stillborn). She adopted an orphan kitten too; there were 6 black ones and one orange tabby. We moved to California that May, and since she hadn't been adopted by then, she just came with us. She's our little Al.
Cal (6-ish): Cal is an Australian Kelpie, named after the street where we lived in Baltimore (Calvert Street). We brought him home June 22, 2007. I saw him on craigslist, where he'd been listed by a shelter volunteer. I saw his ears and was sold. I probably should've done some more research on Kelpies, but my heart just went "want want want!" We pulled him from the shelter in his last minutes...it breaks my heart to even think of it. 90% of cats and 50% of dogs don't make it out of his shelter. He's been more than a handful (Kelpies are bred to run 40 miles a day herding sheep...which is to say I've never really gotten him tired), but we just love him.
Nite (6 on Saturday): Nite (racing name Darcass the Nite) is a retired racing greyhound. We've been fostering them since 2009, and he is our 25th foster (and first foster failure). I picked him out at the track myself in Wheeling this past April. He'd been retired and waiting in the adoption kennel for almost two years (average at this kennel is 3 months). He's large for a grey (95 pounds), he's black, and he's a tad shy, so no one wanted him. When I met him, I felt for him, and on July 1, he came to us as a foster. We adopted him September 10, 2011. He's a really easygoing guy, and he adjusted really quickly to life in a home.
We foster retired racing greyhounds and litters of kittens. We've been fosters since 2006. It's not always easy, but it is always worth it.
Kittens we fostered this Spring:
My Lunch Blog
New job leaves me with little posting time, but I lurk quite often and chime in when I can.

Currently two dogs:
Lily Belle - 4 year old pointer mix. She was a very sick mess of a stray who found her way into our yard 3.5 years ago. She suffers from separation anxiety and general anxiety and requires meds and a lot of behavior modification. She backslid a bit when I went back to work because she schedule changed, but is improving every day.
Max - 11 year old dapple dachshund. He came to us through a friend of the family who's sister was arrested and a drug addict. He came to us at 6 years old and proof you can teach an old dog new tricks. He's a silly boy who loves to sing. He chimes in during his own special song. Last year, he was dx with Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency (EPI). Our vet laughs that if there is a disease that they haven't treated, it will end up in our house. He's doing well, but his disease keeps us on our toes for sure.
We had Tillie the "famous" 16 year old dachshund mix who passed away a year and a half ago. She was a fiesty old girl and I still miss her. If you're new around these parts, she was quite well known on the boards.
That pretty much sums it up for our house.
Your description and pictures of these guys is HILARIOUS! I couldn't stop cracking up!
B/w 1/8: betas 17,345, progesterone 25.6
I'm Lauren, from Chicago, married 4 months, we have two adopted dogs. Reesey (3ish) is on left, she's a pit mix, and Squirt (2ish) is on right, not really sure what he is! (well, besides a poop eater, we know that much...)
Do you see that little spot where Squirt's tail is? Just this morning, one of these precious angelic looking dogs decided to chew up the carpet in that spot. And both of them looked guilty as sin as soon as I walked down the stairs, so no telling who actually did it. Oh the joys of having more than one dog
I volunteer at a shelter near my house. I love each and every single dog I've ever met. I probably won't like my future children as much as I like my dogs.
Heeyyy sakelp!
I'm Tamb. I live in Tallahassee and have 3 cats, 1 dog, and a baby on the way. We lost a fourth cat, Abby, to lymphoma in November. We fostered cats through the Leon County Humane Society for about 3 years but recently decided to take a break for an indeterminate amount of time. Whenever we start up again, we might switch to dog fosters.
Our girls..
Cat:
Cat came with my husband, and she is definitely a one-person cat. She's pretty high strung and her anxiety is exacerbated by some, more dominant, foster personalities, which is one of reason we aren't fostering right now. It's just too much to deal with knowing that she's probably going to be shaken up by the addition of the baby as it is.
Her likes: licking plastic, scratching cardboard, windows, being a loner, my husband. Dislikes: anyone else, other cats, playing.
Maggie:
Maggie is the dominate one in our household. We adopted her in '08 from the county animal shelter. She seemed so calm and laid back, and we thought she'd fit right in without causing any problems. Well, it turns out that she had a URI, and once she got over that, her BIG personality came out! She is into everything, all the time. lol.We kept thinking she'd mellow with age, but it certainly hasn't happened yet.
Likes: my husband, cat toys, laying in the sunshine, food, trying to get the other cats to play with her, watching the front door for bugs that might run in, trying to go outside when we take the dog out. Dislikes: boredom, when her people go to bed for the evening.
Emma:
Emma is my baby. We adopted her from the county shelter in '06. She had bad periodontal disease and had had to have all but 5 of her teeth removed. She also a polydactyl cat! And she's really small. She is obsessed with me and has been especially clingy over the last few weeks.
Likes: playing with the strips of paper that go over the sticky part on the netflix envelopes, my microwavable heating pad, sitting on my lap, sleeping on my pillow, meowing, generally trying to get my attention. Dislikes: when I pay any attention to anybody else, being shut out of the bedroom at night.
And Bails...
Bailey:
Bailey is my little man and our first dog. We adopted him from the Humane Society in 2010. They think he was used as a stud dog, and he came into the program with heartworm, badly matted fur, and periodontal disease. He had to have all his teeth removed and was treated for heartworm and is now heartworm negative. I personally feel that he is the perfect dog, and he's definitely "mine." He likes H okay, but he looooves me.
Likes: me, food, dry, breezy days, sniffing around the kitchen floor for scraps, female shih tzus, cat poop, seeing that H and I are awake in the mornings. Dislikes: strangers (he's shy), being brushed, being left in his crate overnight.
(RIP, sweet Abby, with us from April 2006 -- November 2011)
I live in Texas, about an hour and a half northwest of Houston in a lame college town with my husband and Miko. I've been on TN for about 2 1/2 years and posting on Pets for 1 1/2 years.
Miko is our 1 1/2 year old Siberian Husky and the light of our lives! We have been feeding him a raw diet for a year and he is THRIVING, so if you have any questions about that I am always willing to give advice!
Here's our baby:
I'm also foster mama to Kita (who is getting neutered today, so wish him luck!) who is available for adoption through the Brazos Animal Shelter if anyone is interested! Kita is a 6-12month old shepherd/spitz mix, super friendly, gets along with kids, adults, and other dogs, and he's learning manners quickly!
I'm Lori...I live in Central Ohio, not far from KatiesCats (I am more than a little in love with her cat Petey, even if she does call him an_asshole). I have...
Princess Georgia, ruler of the world (or so she thinks). She's what we think is a beagle mix and is probably somewhere between 4 and 5. We adopted her in April 2009 from a rural no-kill shelter that my coworker was volunteering at, and she has been the perfect dog for two first time (on our own) dog owners. She came housetrained, crate trained, knowing how to sit/shake, and has never been destructive. Her likes are: sleeping, getting snuggles, eating, playing with toys, and giving her stinky little brother Eddie the hairy eyeball. In the above picture, yes she really is sleeping with her head resting on her piggie.
And the nest is being stupid so you get clicky link for Eddie: http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z206/OSULori/IMG_0800.jpg
The above link will take you to a picture of wee Eddie. He's an approximately 2 y/o whippet/pit mix we adopted from a local spay/neuter clinic in October 2010...I met him at an adoption event (that I was actually dropping KatiesCats off at, god forbid I NOT go see all the doggies before I went home...) and fell in love with his terrified little face. He was one of 200 dogs forced to live outside on chains in SE Ohio before being rescued in August 2010-so due to his lack of early socialization he is scared of a LOT of things. We put his stinky butt on Prozac in Sept. 2011 and it has helped immensely. He had a rough adjustment for the first few weeks at our house but we have all settled into the new dynamic quite nicely
His likes: when mom or dad come home from work, stealing toys from his sissy, laying in the grass in the warm sunshine, eating as fast as he can, snuggling in the big bed at night. Dislikes: lots of things, but especially men he doesn't know (he's working on that), thunder, car rides (they make him puke), and the freezer ( some stuff fell out of it one morning and made a big noise-he's been terrified of it ever since).
Hi again all! My screen name is Nyahsbabyblues, but my real name is Sandy. I live in BC, Canada, and yes it can be cold here in the winter!
DH and I have been together for 12 years, but married for 5.5. We have a 4.5 year old son that is as good as they get. We are very fortunate that way, and have just started kicking around the idea of having another non-fur baby.
I love pets! The only reason I don't have more is because DH has set a limit for me, which is probably a good thing. Right now we have 3 cats, a dog and 3 fish. I don't know how to put a picture in the post like the rest of you, and don't have the time to figure it out, so I added a link to Shutterfly... hope that's ok.

Connor- A purebred beagle. We got him from a breeder when he was 1 year old, and he's been a constant PITA since we got him (but we love him!). He has issues with severe separation anxiety, and has to be crated when left alone... he also has to wear his diaper or he will pee in his kennel due to claustrophobia. Fortunately we are starting to get a handle on this (after only 10 years!) and I figure his issues will all be resolved by the time he's a ripe old senior. (Technically he's a senior now but doesn't seem it because he's a lively little guy).
Nyah- A siamese cross that is 11. She is my baby girl and is patient and kind...and she loves a clean house, which is funny because while most cats run away from the vaccuum... she comes running to it! She has a disappearing/reappearing heart murmur, but other than that is a healthy girl, despite a tendency to lick the hair off her spine when stressed and being a rather heavy girl (16 pounds).
Hobo- My tiny little girl...approx 8... former hobo. I was out shoveling during a cold snap we were having (31 degrees Fahrenheit!) and I heard the tiniest cry. Connor kept leading me over to the shed to show me what he'd found. It turned out there had been a kitty living under the shed for more than a month, because my mom had noticed the dog heading over there for weeks! It took me a few days, but I finally was able to coax her out of the hole with food, and out popped this tiny emaciated kitty. She was frostbitten on her face and the vet said she was lucky to be alive. I couldn't get rid of her after that, so DH (then BF) kept her. She lost her ear tip to frostbite, and had a nasty temperament from being feral, but over the years she has calmed down and has mood swings, but otherwise is reasonably nice considering... as long as you don't pick her up! She is an indoor kitty now (as all my cat's are), and only goes out with supervision so that never happens to her again.
Buster- Buster is my miracle boy. I got a purebred Ragdoll when our tuxedo manx passed from Cancer. He was my everything, and it took alot out of me watching him slowly deteriorate. Buster was going to be my companion to help fill that void, but he actually ended up costing us a fortune! Just a few days shy of his 1st birthday, he went into congestive heart failure and nearly died 3 times. $3500 later we finally knew why. He has a heard condition (HCM) that the breeder assured me he had been tested for. I did alot of research, and now have him on a strict med and supplement schedule, and I'm happy to report my boy is perfect. He's still sick, and who knows if he'll live to be an old boy or not, but for now I'm happy that he made it to his 2nd birthday! Funny thing is, I'm glad Buster was sent to me, because I know I can give him the care he needs, and a part of me thinks my angel kitty sent him to me because I fought so hard to help him during his final days :-)
Fish- Clyde, Bruce (14 and 7 inch koi) and Toothless (pleco).
So that's my crazy family! Sorry for the long post, but a big part of my babies is their history, and it's hard not to tell it :-)
Hi, I'm Mrs.Jacinthe.
I live with my H in NorCal, where we just moved in May. Prior to that, we lived in Ohio. Prior to that, we lived in Texas. So I'm no stranger to long-distance car trips with pets.
We have three pets: Cat, Hobbes, and Dot.
Cat is a 14-19 (not sure, really) y/o male mutt-cat that I've had since long before H. He and I were a package deal, which was ok because H loves him. He's my heart cat and has begun the aging process in the last year or two. I get choked up even thinking about him dying, although I know it has to happen sometime. I regularly tell him that he's never allowed to die. Ever. Ha.
Hobbes is a 4 y/o male long-hair with the memory of a goldfish and feline pica disease. As in, he eats everything and anything, and has required surgery once already. I know he'll need another one someday and there's not a snowball's chance that he'll live as long as Cat, but we love him and are dedicated to keeping him healthy as long as possible.
Dot is a 11 y/o (approximately) beagle/corgi/lab?? mix with a heart of gold and a personality to match. She's the perfect dog for us - calm and relaxed, with just a smidge of snuggly thrown in. She's our newest addition and (sadly) the healthiest of our crew. But she's definitely a keeper and we look forward to at least a couple more years with her.
I'm more of a lurker than a poster on this board, but since you'll see me pop up in posts on occasion...
I live in Oklahoma with my husband and the pups. We've been married 3.5 years. I have a desk job by day, and I'm a horseback riding instructor by night. I spend a lot of time reading, and the riding instructor thing helps pay for my horse habit. I'm attempting to buy the horse in my sig... I think he belongs in my family. So say a prayer!
Anyway, we have two dogs: Blackie is a mix of who-knows-what--I get different opinions every time people see him. Guess his color. He looks kind of like a black Border Collie. I adopted him in 2004 from a rescue after he had been there for nine months! He's living proof that black dogs just don't get adopted, and it's a shame. He's the most amazing dog ever. He's around ten now, and I love that dog so much. He's my soul dog.
Ranger is the newest member of the household, and we adopted him a few days before Thanksgiving. I saw Ranger's picture on Facebook, and it said he was about to be PTS because of "behavioral issues" (meaning he didn't come to the front of the cage when someone walked by, so they assumed he might try to snap). They never even officially put him up for adoption. So I had to fight, but finally they re-evaluated him the day he was scheduled to be PTS, and I was able to adopt him! Ray Ray is somewhere around ten months old, give or take. Not entirely sure his mix (I will post photos soon so you all can guess!)--definitely spaniel, maybe some Irish Setter... and then maybe some Chow or Sharpei because of his blue tongue. It's a mystery! He's still very much an adolescent dog, so he keeps us on our toes.
my bookshelf!
Bloggy
Yes, it has. I do pop on from time to time, but after 10 months of unemployment, the new job keeps me hopping.
Hi I'm Allison.
I live in NJ. I rescued a black lab/pittie mix on Halloween 2009. Divorced and the only thing I fought for was custody of her.
Sugar just turned 3 on 1/1. She's my baby. I recently moved in with my SO and also "adopted" his 2 dogs.
Stella is a 2 year old Golden, but she's white, but a beauty. Full of love. Her sister Bailey is a 7 year old Golden that loves to lick. These 3 babies of ours have meshed so well together and you can always find them playing tug of war, chasing each other in the yard or laying side by side on the couch. It can be chaotic with 3 large dogs, plus my SO's 10 year old son lives with us as well, but I wouldn't change a thing. Life is great and this house is full of love
Free Disney Tickers
This literally made me LOL! :-p
It'd been so nice to read about all the sweet pups and kitties! I'm NotJennay, my actually name, Jannae, sounds similiar, but not quite exactly like the way Forrest Gump says Jenny. Drives me nuts when folks say it in a Forrest Gump accent, hence the screenname NotJennay.
I've been married 3 months and BH (Bold Husband) and I have a mini Aussie, Gloria, who's 2 1/2 years old and we've had since puppyhood. We are crazy about her and I love teaching her tricks/manners, and the tips from this board have been wonderful. She's 100% Aussie, from crossing her paws, to being a Velcro dog and to going a little crazy when she sees a flock of birds because she can't herd them. We haven't done everything right, by a long shot, but fortunately we haven't yet done irrepairable damage.
