SCR: Do you cook, or go out for Valentine's day?

We personally never go out.  I would rather be home, cooking for my DH then out in the madness that Valentines Day has become.  If you stay in, what are your favorite things to make???

Re: SCR: Do you cook, or go out for Valentine's day?

  • We usually go out but it becomes more of a hassle!  Now, we go out the weekend after to the restaurant of my choice :)

Tonight I am making chicken lasagna...his fave!

  • Cook!  Making steak and crab legs and butternut squash risotto tonight with cream puffs for dessert!

  • I prefer to go out. DH likes to make it a little surprise of where we go, he always handles the reservations so its kind of part of his gift to me. Plus, I like dressing up and enjoying a romantic dinner out.
  • We stay in and go out on a surrounding weekend normally.

  • Usually cook, but I don't really go all out or anything like that. Our dating anniversary was 2/19 so we always celebrated that instead (by going out to a nice dinner).

  • We usually go out.  This year DH has to work late today, so I'm cooking tonight & we're going out tomorrow night.
  • I cook.  Valentine's is amateur night out...no fun.

  • We've eaten out in our early years of dating, but since then we've cooked our own meal. It's much more fun to make dinner together and enjoy each other's company at home. This year we're making filet mignon, seared scallops and tres leches cake.
  • We go out. We go to the same restaurant every year and it's a small restaurant in a small town so we never have to fight crowds. My H always makes a reservation in advance and it's actually quite a smooth process.

  • We either cook or go out but not on valentines day.
  • We ALWAYS stay in. Truthfully, DH and I aren't really big Valentine's Day people, and we have no desire to shell out the extra $$ for an overpriced dinner and a sitter. I make a special meal at home (he usually requests my penne alla vodka), and we get a nice bottle of wine.

  • We cook.  This year we are having champagne chicken, whole wheat angel hair pasta, roasted broccoli, and triple chocolate cake.  And champagne, of course!  Maybe we'll go out over the weekend.

  • We have gone out every year until this year. I wanted to start a new tradition of cooking at home for DH and DD (for numerous reasons... Our anniversary was just 2 weeks ago and we went out, i'm trying to not eat out as much to expand DD's diet past chicken nuggets and fries, and she also is fully nut free and desserts out get complicated...)

I think I might make a heart shaped pizza for DH and DD, and make myself veal parm. lol

  • I cook a nice dinner and we'll go out soemtime either the weekend before or after.  I hate going to a restaurant on Valentine's Day.  Tongiht's meal is Lobster Mac n Cheese with Wilted Spinach.
  • we used to go out, but i got tired of the limited menus and crowded restaurants. we'd much rather go out on another night and get impeccable service with great food. so, now i cook. tonight, i'm making chicken parmesan - that was the first meal i ever cooked for him when we were dating.
  • We usually stay in to avoid the crowds. But, we always go out for our anniversary (in early January).

  • I love to cook. I have lobster tails and steak waiting for me when I get home. Yum.

  • I hate going out to eat on Valentine's Day. Everything is so crowded and service and food are usually not at their best. I'd much rather cook at home.
  • We are not really big on Valentines Day, and we are even less keen on set menus, high prices and crowds, so we cook.  It is much more fun, and the food is better.lol

  • We cook.  DHs birthday is on 13th, so we usually go out for that either a few days before or after.  Basically, whatever weekend isn't going to be crowded and have jacked up menu prices.

Tonight we're having pork chops, sauteed asparagus & mashed potatoes.

  • In the past, we've done both but I prefer to stay in.  This year, we're ordering a heart shaped pizza and sitting on the couch.
  • Cook.  I'm not all that into Valentine's Day, but I'll take any excuse to make a nice meal.  :)
  • We are staying in and cooking a slightly indulgent "healthy" meal. We really REALLY indulged this weekend. lol.

Kevin requested Tuscan Garlic Chicken so that is what we're having. :) I am making fresh whole wheat pasta too so yay!

  • We usually stay in and I cook.  I ask DH & DS what they want for dinner and dessert.  Tonight it's lasagna and s'mores bars.

  • I usually cook the day of, and then we'll go out for a nice dinner some other time when it won't be super crowded.  I'm making roast beef in the crock pot, risotto, and roasted broccoli with strawberry chocolate cheesecake for dessert.
  • Since my birthday is on the 13th, we stay in and cook. I hate going out on this date. So either I will cook dinner and DH will make dessert or vice versa.

  • We always stay in. We celebrated Sunday night because I had to work late last night and have to teach tonight, though :(
  • we go out. i think in the 9 years i've known DH he's been off for 2 Vdays. he works 330pm to 1130pm (nypd) so he's rarely off. fine wtih me-i hate overcrowded restaurants anyway. we celebrate on the first possible day after-this year it's tomorrow as he's working tonight.
Friday, December 28 2012. The day I had emergency appendix surgery in Mexico and quit smoking. Proof that everything has a good side!! DH and I are happily child-free!! No due date or toddler tickers here!! my read shelf:

  • Well, normally DH is miles away at some tournament and we don't see each other on or around Valentine's Day. This is the first year since the year we started dating (2006) that we will actually be together on Valentine's Day. (Yay for middle of the week V-day this year!)

So we are going out. We cook nice meals at home all the time. Granted, we go out to eat often as well but...something different. DH has made reservations and they are a surprise, although I have a good guess of where we will be going, and I'm excited! It will be out last alone time together for...well, a long time. MIL arrives on Thursday, DH's team hosts another tournament this weekend, next Wednesday the team and MIL will go to GA to play a mid-week game, DH will get home late on Wednesday night and turn right around to head to the ATL airport Thursday morning to fly to a tournament in South Florida for the weekend. They'll get back Monday morning and Wednesday they'll bus back down to Florida for another tournament. Then the next week they head down to LSU on Tuesday, fly directly from LSU to Atlanta to play at UGA that weekend..oye.

So yes, we are going out tonight to celebrate and SEE each other and I can't wait :)
