Liz, I have the worst luck with all things OB related!! My doctor actually hugged me today.

Not always. Not at that beautiful baby.

But really, I'm frustrated for you. Take tonight easy and good luck tomorrow.

  • Good luck tomorrow...hope all goes well and that you're feeling better soon.

I'm so sorry! yikes!  how the heck does it drift?

I think the OB (my OB's partner) perforated my uterus when she put it in. I'm not sure, but how else does it get out?!

I actually sell one of the iuds and have one myself (my competition haha).  I was going to say that the doctor must have pushed it into your uterus since it happened so fast.  Sometimes after many years of them being in, they can kind of grow in, but since you had pain immediately, she must have perforated, like you said.  One of the iuds you push to insert and the other you pull back on during insertion...maybe she did opposite.  Or she could have measured you wrong.  At any rate, I hope the removal is quick and you are back to feeling better very soon!

The part that is weird is that there was an U/S on Wednesday after it was inserted to make sure that it was placed properly. All looked fine - according to two docs and a nurse. Could she have perforated my uterus while dilating me and then the damn thing slipped out later??

  • ugh you poor thing- good luck!
  • There were extenuating circumstances for the ultrasound, right?  I'm pretty certain that an ultrasound isn't standard practice when inserting.  So, it sounds like she had concerns that it wasn't placed properly.  I'm not an expert in all the clinical aspects of insertion-- just making an educated guess.

No, you are right. She was concerned. When I left it was in the right place, but I'm guessing she perforated my uterus when she dilated me or measured me and somehow it snuck out??? At this point, I don't even care - I just want it out. :(

I'm not sure, but it sounds like it might not have been properly placed, or maybe you're right about the perforated uterus.  No matter what, it's awful that it's happening!  I feel terrible for you.  Sending you vibes for a very smooth day tomorrow.  Hugs, too!

I feel like I should have just waited for an opening with him. Of course it was a month later and I didn't want to wait. DUH!!! There is a reason we all love him.
