i guess i dont like things that other girls do...id much rather sit in bar with a few beers and watch a game than do anything else.

I often feel like this - manicures and spa days are just not fun for me. I'd much rather grab a beer and chat!

  • I do not have ONE "BFF" that I refer to as such but I have a few very close friends that meet your description. But they're all friends I've made as an adult, in GA (I am originally from VA) so I do feel sad that I am not still BEST friends with the same people from my childhood. When I see that I am always amazed! And slightly jealous. I am still close with a few college friends (graduated 12 years ago) but my SIL, for example, has had the same best friends since she was like 5!

Are you guys kidding me with the gender stereotypes here?

I seriously have to roll my eyes at people who "don't like girls".  JFC.  MEET SOME OTHER GIRLS WHO LIKE BEER AND SPORTS WE ARE EVERYWHERE.

Word. I love beer and sports. And so do my girlfriends.

  • I absolutely do.  We've been best friends since todderlhood.  I have called her in the middle of the night.  She has dropped everything for me before and I have done the same for her.  We lost touch when I moved out of state for college but she was the first person I contacted when I moved back to SC and we see each other all the time now.  I cherish our relationship so much and I tell her that all the time.  She understands me.  She knows my history.  She takes me as I am fully.
  • I have one very very good friend but not a best friend like that.  I had one until about two years ago.  He was the "man of honor" in my wedding and we just seemed to be going two different directions - even though I just had a child and he had just adopted.  It was seeming like work to keep the friendship going and seemed really one sided.  My DH has like five best friends.  They're all a wonderful, tight-knit group that has been around together since high school/early college years.  Unfortunately, only one of them lives within an hour of us but they're all really close.  It makes me sad sometimes but I'm also socially awkwardish and don't open myself up that much to new people so it's my fault I haven't made a lot of close friends in the mean time.
  • In addition to fiance, I have 2 friends that fit that criteria, so I consider them my BFF's too.
Always be yourself. Unless you suck.

Yeah, I won't jump on anyone for thinking too many women care about pedicures and the Real Housewives (because I think a lot do) but don't say you don't want to befriend women at all because none of them like sports and beer.

I run a Fantasy Football League FULL of women who know quarterback from a cornerback and they can all get down with some brews. Some of them can change their own oil, fire a gun and use a circular saw.  Mind blowing, I know.

ok, ok. for the record I was just agreeing with the part about hanging out and drinking a beer! I like girls just fine. And if they'd rather drink a pint than get their nails done, chances are I'm going to bond with them more. Of course there are exceptions.

Obviously not everyone is into girly stuff but a good amount are. How often do we have a thread on here like "rec your favorite makeup?" and like 25 women respond. Then there's like 3 of us who respond with "uh, I don't really wear any."

I drink beer, watch sports, and wear makeup.  ;)

I kid, NIJ.  I like to think we'd be good friends in real life.

  • I have had a really good friend for the last 11 years that fits the description you described. We talk several times a week and try and get together at least a few times a month. I feel like my husband is more my "best friend", I tell him alot more. I share all my problems with him.

  • I am truly blanking on any makeup rec threads that I've seen on WC....

You're blowing my mind a little bit here NIJ, my mental formulation of you is not working with your assessment of what women are like or what women like, lol.

I think you missed my point. The OP that I quoted made that assessment. Not me.

  • I love beer, sports, and the Real Housewives...women these days...we can have it all =)

I have two best friends, one is a girlfriends from colleg and the other is a guy who I met right when I graduated from college. She lives in Colorado now and we only get to see each other a few times a year.  He lives in town and I would call him in the middle of the night in a heartbeat.

  • I have three really close girlfriends but am living far away from all of them now.

DH doesn't have a BF but he definitely has some pretty good friends.
  • yes, for over 20 years now...we met in college.
  • Yes, we've been friends since elementary school... I guess it's been about 25 years now!  We couldn't be more different from each other.

We talk on the phone 3-4 times a week, about just about everything.

I kind of agree with laptoprancer - I think its hard, if not impossible, to form that sort of bond with someone now.

  • Sure do.  She is my sister and knows where all the bodies are buried.
    No Siggy

  • Yes. We've grown up together since I was three and she was two. Our families lived blocks apart. I introduced her to her now husband, who is like the big brother I never had. We have that friendship where we can let months, sometimes years go by with our hectic schedules and when we get together, its like we just talked 30 minutes ago. We've been there during each other's highest of highs in our lives and each other's lowest of lows. There's never a dull moment when we're together and I'm fortunate to have her in my life.

to each their own, id just rather hang out with men.  never really liked hanging with girls. especially ones that retort with sarcastic comments and eye rolling...i dont care much for that drama.  men are much easier to hang out with and be friends.  its my opinion and you are free to have yours.
