So! Who's staying? Who's leaving?
Re: So! Who's staying? Who's leaving?
I think how much traffic comes from TN varies from blog to blog. There may be many who started with a Nest-centric audience, but as they expanded, began participating in different blog rolls/event/conventions, submitting to Foodgawker and TasteSpotting, getting traffic from StumbleUpon, etc., their dynamic may have drastically shifted such that TN now plays a very small part in their overall audience.
I understand the point you're making and agree that TN has a right to do what they're doing. But I can't fault the ladies who are bothered by it, either. Just because a person or company has a right to do something doesn't leave them free of backlash when they choose to do it, y'know?
There are two issues at hand here. One is the nest using content from our blogs to increase the traffic to their boards, and the other is privacy.
I don't have a problem with the nest using pictures from my blog to increase their traffic. That's the price of posting on a forum. (And while I can't speak for everyone, no, most of my blog hits do not come from the nest.)
The privacy thing makes me a little uncomfortable - I don't really want my nest name and posts plastered all over the internet. But, like candreco said, everything you post on the internet is permanent, and I've always posted with that in mind.

Pretty much this. I signed up for the other board but haven't checked in much. I just can't handle one more place to go!
Plus I am more reserved with what I post lately so I'm not terribly concerned.
The bold sentence pretty much sums up how I feel. I said yesterday that while TN isn't wrong, that doesn't make it right (in some people's opinion).
That's what cracks me up about all the posts I've seen on other boards that are basically telling us (WC) that we're crazy for being bothered. Why am I crazy for not liking something? They say we should have known better, realized that this was a possibility and just suck it up. I'm sorry but I don't agree with every decision that's made by anyone, a person, a company, whatever. It may be perfectly legal and something I should have known was a possibility but it could still rub me the wrong way.

Yeah that's right my name's Yauch!
What is the facebook board? If it is still around, can I join it? I'm amazed at how much I miss when I'm here (almost) everyday!
