Re: Wow, it is slow! Poll!

  • 1) If you're married, what kind of food did you serve at your reception? We had a 2 p.m. wedding so we just served heavy hor d?ourves.

    2) If you're married, did you say your vows or repeat after the officiant?  Did you write your vows? We repeated after the officiant but we did have a choice in what we wanted our vows to saw.

    3) Do you think it is weird to celebrate St Patricks's Day even if you aren't Irish? It doesn?t bother me.

    4) How do you feel about capers? My husband loves them, me I?m not such a fan.

  • 1) If you're married, what kind of food did you serve at your reception?

We had a sit down dinner with a combo dinner plate of filet mignon, chicken breast, twiced baked potatoes, and green beans almondine with a salad.  Vegetarians had a different dish (can't remember what)

    2) If you're married, did you say your vows or repeat after the officiant?  Did you write your vows?    We repeated after the officiant-I wouldn't have made it through if we didn't!

    3) Do you think it is weird to celebrate St Patricks's Day even if you aren't Irish?

No offense, but I think it's a odd holiday...I celebrate it at school with my kids but we don't do anything at home for it...it's kind of like celebrating Cinco de Mayo.

    4) How do you feel about capers? I love the little buggers-I think they are great!

  • 1) If you're married, what kind of food did you serve at your reception?

     I didn't throw a reception.

    2) If you're married, did you say your vows or repeat after the officiant?  Did you write your vows?

We wrote and said them without guidance from the officiant, who could barely speak english anyway.

    3) Do you think it is weird to celebrate St Patricks's Day even if you aren't Irish?

     No.

    4) How do you feel about capers?

I like them but my H does not.

  • 1) If you're married, what kind of food did you serve at your reception? -- I had a surprise wedding at a family reunion so technically I didn't have a reception.  But I did bring a King Cake as my "wedding cake."

    2) If you're married, did you say your vows or repeat after the officiant?  Did you write your vows? -- We repeated after the officiant.  It was a no-frills legal minimum ceremony.  In flagrant violation of the Knot's rules of etiquette, we're having a church wedding next year where we'll do the more traditional thing.

    3) Do you think it is weird to celebrate St Patricks's Day even if you aren't Irish? -- No, but I do think dyeing everything possible green is ridiculous.

    4) How do you feel about capers? -- I would prefer they had never been discovered as a viable foodstuff.

I don't mind being held to a higher standard; I mind being held to a lower one. (Sam Seaborn, The West Wing)

  • 1)  I remember the caprese salad, turkey, and roasted carrots.  We bought a cheap wedding cake to make room in our budget for a string quartet, and the cake was really terrible.

    2)  We just said "I do" at the end.  We did not write our vows.

    3)  No.

    4)  I'm a caper hater.

  • 1) If you're married, what kind of food did you serve at your reception?  We had Chicken Marsala, Roasted Prime Rib of Beef, and Pasta Primavera for our vegetarian option

    2) If you're married, did you say your vows or repeat after the officiant?  We repeated them after our officiant.

Did you write your vows?  Yes?  It wasn't really writing them, since all I did was mash something together from other sources

    3) Do you think it is weird to celebrate St Patricks's Day even if you aren't Irish?  Not really

    4) How do you feel about capers? Meh; it's all you find around here, so I take what I can get in the summer.

  • 1) If you're married, what kind of food did you serve at your reception? choices between filet with a red wine demi glace, potato crusted walleye with tomato leek sauce or vegetable napoleon with goat cheese.  I really wanted the napoleon, but foresaw myself spilling all over my white dress - d'oh!

    2) If you're married, did you say your vows or repeat after the officiant? Did you write your vows?  We repeated our vows, which we wrote/compiled ourselves.

    3) Do you think it is weird to celebrate St Patricks's Day even if you aren't Irish?   Not really...though I've never really celebrated it.

    4) How do you feel about capers?  they are up there with olives under the 'strongly dislike' column

  • 1) If you're married, what kind of food did you serve at your reception? I don't remember the main dish (some boring banquet food, I'm sure), but I remember insisting on and paying extra for mixed greens instead of iceberg lettuce in the salad, and the salad was really good.

    2) If you're married, did you say your vows or repeat after the officiant?  Did you write your vows? DH wrote our vows.  We read them.

    3) Do you think it is weird to celebrate St Patricks's Day even if you aren't Irish? Nah.

    4) How do you feel about capers? I love them!  I didn't realize they were so unpopular. I'm actually using them in dinner tonight.

ETA: We also repeated the normal vows after the officiant, because she was an idiot who didn't listen to us when we described the ceremony to her. (And she kept insisting she didn't need to be at the rehearsal.)  So she started in on the standard vows, and DH and I sent each other this "OMG WTF" look, repeated those vows, and then got her back on track with the vows we wrote.

She also mispronounced our last name at the end.  I did not like that woman, not one bit.

  • 1) If you're married, what kind of food did you serve at your reception?

We had a cocktail reception at the country club my parents own after the ceremony and had so much food there..appetizers and dessert table.

Then for the formal reception that night we did a steak, chicken and a vegetarian pasta meal (guests selected when they RSVPed) and kids...and my sis (MOH) had chicken nuggets and french fries. And a candy buffet and open bar. Important stuff people.

    2) If you're married, did you say your vows or repeat after the officiant?  Did you write your vows?

Repeat after. Yeah they were the basic vows.

    3) Do you think it is weird to celebrate St Patricks's Day even if you aren't Irish?

Not at all. Is it weird to celebrate Cinco de Mayo if you aren't Mexican?

    4) How do you feel about capers?

I thought it was like an anchovy until about a year ago.

  • 1) If you're married, what kind of food did you serve at your reception? We had stations with various finger foods/heavy apps -  things that come to mind right now are fried brie on crostini with jalapeno jelly, shrimp skewers, dungeness crab salad, and a cheese plate with locally made cheeses. There was more but I'm forgetting!

    2) If you're married, did you say your vows or repeat after the officiant?  Did you write your vows?   We repeated after the officiant. We used the vows from a the Common Book of Prayer.

    3) Do you think it is weird to celebrate St Patrick's Day even if you aren't Irish? Nah, just a good excuse to drink a lot of beer and eat corned beef, irish soda bread, and chocolate-stout cake (at least around here)  :)

    4) How do you feel about capers? Love them. They add the perfect amount of saltiness to the dishes they're in. I especially love them on carpaccio at an Italian restaurant. Or in a pasta dish.

    2) If you're married, did you say your vows or repeat after the officiant?  Did you write your vows?  We repeated the traditional vows of a Catholic wedding ceremony.

    3) Do you think it is weird to celebrate St Patricks's Day even if you aren't Irish? I don't celebrate it, but I don't think it's weird. When I was younger, I used it as an excuse to get my drink on!

    So Tasty, So Yummy

  • 1) If you're married, what kind of food did you serve at your reception? Our food was ridiculous, here is the link for our menu if you are really curious. Our main entrees were filet, chilean sea bass, and rack of veal. We also had a sick dessert bar & a breakfast buffet. My cousin-in-law's uncle is the owner so we got hooked up ;)

    2) If you're married, did you say your vows or repeat after the officiant?  Did you write your vows?  We repeated the traditional vows of a Catholic wedding ceremony.

    3) Do you think it is weird to celebrate St Patricks's Day even if you aren't Irish? I am Irish, but don't celebrate it really. In college I did! I think it is fine to celebrate whether your Irish or not.

    4) How do you feel about capers? I have lukewarm feelings about them

    1) If you're married, what kind of food did you serve at your reception? We had a pasta station, a taco bar, and a table with lots of apps and salads as well as just some plain grilled chicken for pickier eaters. It made me happy.

    2) If you're married, did you say your vows or repeat after the officiant?  Did you write your vows?  We wrote our own vows and read them, then repeated after the minister as he said the "traditional" vows.

    3) Do you think it is weird to celebrate St Patricks's Day even if you aren't Irish? Doesn't bother me.

    4) How do you feel about capers? A little on the negative side.

  • 1) If you're married, what kind of food did you serve at your reception? What didn't we serve? We had so much freaking food. Typical Greek. Umm, I don't even remember it all. I know we had little spanakopitas and cheesepies to starts, and maybe some sort of mushroom thing. Crudite, I believe? We had soup, salad, filet, some sort of lemon chicken. Roasted potatoes, maybe? Yeah...I don't really remember it all.

    2) If you're married, did you say your vows or repeat after the officiant?  Did you write your vows?  Orthodox ceremonies don't have vows.

    3) Do you think it is weird to celebrate St Patricks's Day even if you aren't Irish? Not really.

    4) How do you feel about capers? Pretty indifferent. I used to really dislike them, but now I find them tolerable.

  • 1) If you're married, what kind of food did you serve at your reception?

Buffet style with passed apps, and the best garlic mashed potatoes on the planet.

    2) If you're married, did you say your vows or repeat after the officiant?  Did you write your vows?

Repeat, I think.  We modified/combined some of the standard church options.

    3) Do you think it is weird to celebrate St Patricks's Day even if you aren't Irish?

No, people will take any reason for a party or to drink.

    4) How do you feel about capers?

Ambivalent.  I don't love or hate them.  One day last year I got a random call from my grandma asking if I used capers.  I said I had before, and they're in some recipes I make.  I got a jar of capers as part of my Christmas present.  My mom told me my grandma had found them when she was cleaning out her pantry and didn't want to throw them away.  I'm pretty sure they are at least 5 years old.  But now I don't want to throw them out since they were a gift from my grandma.

  • 1) If you're married, what kind of food did you serve at your reception?Mmm, I had the best food at my reception. I still think about it sometimes and my family still comments on it 6 years later. It was buffet but the quality was awesome. The pasta bar was the clear winner, though.

    2) If you're married, did you say your vows or repeat after the officiant? Did you write your vows?I didn't write completely original vows, but I pulled things from different sources to make sure we said the things we wanted to say. We did repeat after the officiant.

    3) Do you think it is weird to celebrate St Patricks's Day even if you aren't Irish? I'm only part Irish but I was (guess I still am, it doesn't feel like it ever goes away!) an Irish dancer so it's pretty ingrained into my mind/life. Last year was the first year I missed the parade and this year I'll be in China and so nothing will be going on, and that makes me sad. But no, I don't think it's weird to celebrate if you are not Irish.

    4) How do you feel about capers? Love them!

  • 1) If you're married, what kind of food did you serve at your reception? Our wedding was at 11am, and we served heavy hors d'ouvres immediately afterwards.

    2) If you're married, did you say your vows or repeat after the officiant?  Did you write your vows?  We wrote our own vows, and I think we also repeated some stuff after the officiant.

    3) Do you think it is weird to celebrate St Patricks's Day even if you aren't Irish? No. It's always fun to celebrate holidays from another culture.

    4) How do you feel about capers? Not a fan.
  • 1) If you're married, what kind of food did you serve at your reception?  Cocktail party reception, so lots of substantial finger foods, and a cheesecake bar instead of wedding cake.

    2) If you're married, did you say your vows or repeat after the officiant?  Did you write your vows?  Repeated after the officiant, using the standard for my church.

    3) Do you think it is weird to celebrate St Patricks's Day even if you aren't Irish?  Nope.

    4) How do you feel about capers?  Meh, not something I really like, but sometimes a sauce or dressing needs the "brininess" of them.  I think I've been using the same jar of the things for over a year now.

  • 1) If you're married, what kind of food did you serve at your reception? Chicken marsala...nothing memorable

    2) If you're married, did you say your vows or repeat after the officiant?  Did you write your vows?  Repeat. We did not write our own vows, but they were nontraditional and very casual.

    3) Do you think it is weird to celebrate St Patricks's Day even if you aren't Irish? Nah. But thank goodness I am very, very Irish and have that excuse ;)

    4) How do you feel about capers? I'm a big fan.
  • 1) If you're married, what kind of food did you serve at your reception? I'm divorced now, but our guests had the choice of Filet Neptune (filet topped with crab meat); Sea Bass, or Veal Oscar

    2) If you're married, did you say your vows or repeat after the officiant?  Did you write your vows?  Repeated the generic vows after the officiant.

    3) Do you think it is weird to celebrate St Patricks's Day even if you aren't Irish? No.

    4) How do you feel about capers? I love capers!

  • 1) If you're married, what kind of food did you serve at your reception? Well, since I'm from Louisiana, we had gumbo, jambalaya and appetizers for the main food. We had a HUGE king cake for the groom cake, too. Our guests loved it!

    2) If you're married, did you say your vows or repeat after the officiant?  Did you write your vows?  We repeated and used the vows that the Catholic Church had.

    3) Do you think it is weird to celebrate St Patricks's Day even if you aren't Irish? No way. We have parades to celebrate it out here. :-)

    4) How do you feel about capers?  Delish!

  • 1. Italian food, buffet style

    2. Repeat

    3. Nope but I am Irish

    4. I'm ok if they are in a dish.  DH hates them.  I tend to not buy them or cook with them

  • I'm trying to post a little more around here so I figured I would respond :)

    1) If you're married, what kind of food did you serve at your reception? We had a very casual informal ceremony and BBQ afterwards. We served typical BBQ food.

    2) If you're married, did you say your vows or repeat after the officiant?  Did you write your vows?  We repeated after the officiant.

    3) Do you think it is weird to celebrate St Patricks's Day even if you aren't Irish?  I'm not into it. Most people I know focus on the drinking part. I don't. For the past few years, I make Irish food or stuff made with beer just for fun :)

    4) How do you feel about capers? I love them in certain things (i.e. picatta, salads).

  • 1) If you're married, what kind of food did you serve at your reception?

We just had cake and punch.

    2) If you're married, did you say your vows or repeat after the officiant? Did you write your vows?

We just agreed with what the officiant said. My DH was worried he wouldn't even be able to repeat him.

    3) Do you think it is weird to celebrate St Patricks's Day even if you aren't Irish?

    Not at all.

    4) How do you feel about capers?

Honestly I have never had them.
