If the restaurant was only 10 minutes away, why didn't she walk there?

The same reason people use drive-thru -- convenience. Y'all act like you have never had delivery before, WTF. Next to "go get your own food", this is prolly the silliest comment in this thread.

    ::snort::

I have a hard time feeling sorry for people who live 10 minutes from a restaurant, spend 90 minutes waiting for second-party delivery from said restaurant, then get butthurtz and instead of not ordering from there again, order from the same restaurant twice more with the same results.

Then get on the internet and complain about how message board people are mean and rude and we don't know their life.

Then they get their boyfriend involved.

    Yeah, I'm the silly one.

(Disclaimer:  The restaurant was wrong to publish their personal information.  That sucked.  The rest of the story, though, is totally laughable.)

I didn't say feel sorry for them, but you asked why they didn't go get it. And that seemed obvious since they called delivery from the get go instead of walking to the spot.

So, yes, comment still silly as hell. *snort back atcha*

  • I'm with Butternut on the idiocy of criticizing these people for not getting their food themselves. It's a delivery service. It would be like Pizza Hut dodging complaints about shitty service with a shrug and a "well, you could always come get it yourself."

Next the restaurant will say, "well, you should learn to cook" when you complain about cold fries.

Actually, no, that is not always the case. In fact, you can be sued for ish you put on the web about companies. Whether or not they can win is besides the point cause you may still have to lay out cash defending yourself.

But, if I have a choice between sitting in customer service, press this button, press that button hell and posting a (carefully thought out and not flippant) tweet and getting a response, then I will be a gotdayum attention whore.

And I am mad as hell that I am now defending this chick.

But when you're calling a restaurant, you aren't sitting in customer service, pressing buttons and resisting the urge to throw the phone because the voice automated system keeps getting triggered by random baby cooing (or is that just me?)

We're talking about a late/missing food order. Even if she ordered from McDonalds she'd still need to call the restaurant who had the order directly.

Personally, I would have called and griped on FB/Twitter. But I would have called.

HAB, just for the record, she DID call. And she called BEFORE she ever named the actual restaurant on Twitter.

And this. Seriously, have you never lived somewhere without only off-street parking, where you quite literally almost high-five yourself and tinkle in your pants a smidge if you happen to be able to park within 50 feet of your front door?  Damn right I'm calling for delivery in that case.

    Agree to disagree, I guess.

Yup, which is why I walk to the restaurants if they're 10 minutes away instead of getting in the car and driving.

How is this difficult to understand, guys?

  • I don't care if the restaurant was within spitting difference. They offered a delivery service, they should deliver the fuuking food. They don't get to shrug and not give a shiit and then act like douches when their customers rightly wonder how in the hell they can't manage to deliver their product in a reasonable amount of time.

  • Does it say it is actually a 10 minute walk or just 10 minutes away?  Because I would take 10 minutes away as the driving time, not the walking time.  Not that it really matters because if you pay for the convenience of delivery and they offer delivery, then I don't get scorn at someone actually taking advantage of it.  This is like saying people who use room service at hotels are lazy.

I think it's 10 driving minutes away, which means it would take considerably more than 10 minutes to walk there.

But we can agree to disagree. I retract my snort. LOL!

I re-read and I am taking it as driving minutes as well.

  • I was assuming 10 minutes walk.  If it's 10 minutes drive, I retract my statements.

If it was 10 minutes walk, then I'm still giving them the side-eye for going back two more times with the same 90 minute delivery time vs. 10 minute-each-way walk time.

    Haha!

Hell no.  I love room service.  I would blame myself by the third time if I'd ordered it three times in a row and all three times had stupid long delivery delays.  :)

  • People, people, people!  I was searching for something related to this story and found this thread, so I have to weigh in because I think you're taking it to a place where it shouldn't go.

First, I know Gina topically, and I'm familiar with this story and the turn of events. Did most of you even read the story?  She didn't walk 10 minutes to the restaurant (which is a 10 minute drive, but a 30-40 minute walk, FYI) because she COULDN'T LEAVE THE HOUSE that day.  The second time was St. Paddy's Day, and if you've ever tried to park in the South Loop on St. Pat's, let me save you some time.  It completely sucks.  And she DID call before tweeting.  But that's not the point.  I don't even see what any of that has to do with anything.  I don't care if she was sitting around scratching her ass -- she has the right to be lazy and order food for delivery if she can afford to do so.

I read Lee's comment, and true -- he has a different style.  He's protective.  Don't know if I agree with the tone, which is all I'm going to say, but I understand his message.

Wouldn't any and all of you be angry if your information were blasted on Twitter?  Companies put themselves out there to be reviewed; customers don't!  Even Heidi Fleiss didn't give out her customer list and personal information!  If I were Gina, I would be spitting nails, and not only would there be a venomous seven page rant, there would be a lawsuit -- because there are privacy and safety laws that have been violated and can be enforced in situations like this.

She is not on trial, so why must we examine the whys and wherefores of her motivations to order a freakin' sandwich?  We all have the right to procure food, and if a restaurant says that they deliver, they need to own up to their customer service standards without bitching out when a customer speaks up about not getting what they were promised or deserve.

No one is arguing this point. We all agree that it was bad and they shouldn't have done it.

Hi, this is a politics and current events board. We'll examine anything to death because this is what we do.

I, personally, find it a bit odd that they felt so bothered by the comments, which were rather tame and largely agreeing with them, that they chose to comment on the thread. Now their friends are riding in to their "defense" when there is nothing to defend?

People, people, people, I think you all are a little too invested in "proving" that they were right.

  • OMG another one!

I do have to wonder though why if it was truly that crazy that it wouldn't be assumed that delivery would take a longass time.

I've had pizza take over an hour to get to my house, and at the time I could walk down the street to the place. I was told up front how long delivery would take, though.

You ordered directly though, right? It seems this third party service doesn't really allow for that to easily be done.

    True, I did.

I don't really understand service of Grub Hub. So is it a delivery service that picks up food from restaurants that don't normally deliver? I know some of the more popular restaurants around here would have a long wait for food if it was ordered, and then had to be picked up for delivery.

I am the Lee that Gina is referencing in her blog post. I have been reading these posts and I am really appalled by some of the comments. WE ARE THE VICTIMS HERE. These blog posts were not written because we had bad service. We complained to the restaurant and grub hub about. If it had ended there we would have quietly stopped patronizing them and that would be it. This is about the fact that they violated our privacy by posting our address on twitter! It is not because Gina is entitled or full of herself. The only entitlement we claim is that of decent customer service. I went back a 3rd time because I believe in patronizing local independent businesses (because I own one myself) and giving people a chance when they make mistakes. Have you ever heard of 3 strikes? I think some of you need to take the time to fully read through Gina?s blog post instead of half- way glancing at it and making comments that don?t make sense.

Clearly you have not actually read this thread.  Not one poster suggested that the restaurant had any justification for tweeting your address.  It gets even harder to be sympathetic to you (the VICTIMS) when you come on this site (The Nest?  Really?) to bolster your POV.  And it gets even harder to be sympathetic after reading this tweet from your very own feed:
