Is there an "it" bag on college campuses?

Re: Is there an "it" bag on college campuses?

  • Yeah, I live in Boston and I see a lot of Longchamp.

I think it's fairly classic and safe and is good for carrying around a lot of stuff.

  • Longchamp hasn't made it's way here, but I know lots of campuses where it is the"it" bag. That being said my school was all about backpacks in your sorority color. I here my chapter has Since moved on to Lilly Pulitzer bags in our sorority pattern.

I'm in college right now and I don't really see an it bag on our campus. Not all girls carry purses. A lot of them just use North Face bookbags. I have my bookbag and carry my Coach bag
This. I work at a major university and I mostly see NF backpacks. VB bags were huge here a few years ago, but I don't see people carrying them much anymore. Apparently North Face backpacks with oversized sorority tshirts over Nike tempo shorts is the uniform these days. :/
  • My sister just graduated from college in Central NY and she loved Tory Burch and Coach.
  • Definitely LongChamp bags! They are simple and classic. She will use it forever.
  • No.  I was at BC and BU recruiting this week.  I saw Tory Burch, Burberry, Vera Bradley and Longchamps.
  • Bostonian here. I see Longchamp everywhere.

The only other bag I could suggest is if she "preppy" is Vineyard Vines bag. One of my closest friends uses that has her book bag and she loves it. She is a big Lily Pulitzer fan too!

I second the Vineyard Vines tote or longchamp bag. I went to school in Boston (4 years ago so not tooooo long) and I used both and they were a popular choice.

  • Can I just ask how these girls are getting the $ to buy these bags?  Seriously, when I was in college (albeit almost 10 yrs ago) I carried around a Jansport backpack.  I didn't even get my first Longchamp until last year!

I'm incredulous at this too.  I had a black faux leather tote in college, the jansport backpack pilled all my knits in high school.

I would stay away from Vera Bradley stuff, she may use her bag to commute to an internship or something.  Keep it simple and non-descript.

  • When I think of VB, I think of old ladies and middle school girls. But it definitely differs from region to region.

    Get the Longchamp.

    Parents? lol.

Although I nannied in college and bought myself a Longchamp Pliage for my senior year (class of '08).  It pretty much used it everyday and I still use it for commuting if I have a lot to carry. I always wonder about those with LV NF on college campuses.

OP- if you live near Boston area, I believe there's a TB outlet somewhere around there.

Side note: There are a few Vera outlet around me and they always seem to be busy. I don't get it!

I would go with a Longchamp.  Vera was in for college girls here (Philly area) about 3 or 4 years ago.  Hell, I want a Longchamp : /

Agreed, Vera is definitely passe in this area.

Work at a college just outside of Boston and this is totally true here.  VB was totally in a few years ago, but now it's Longchamp everywhere.

  • Another Bostonian - do the Longchamp for sure.

Thank you I'm starting to feel like I'm in an alternate universe here!

I bought a Coach briefcase when I was out of college and looking for my first "big girl" job and it was like a huge deal for me.  My parents would have laughed in my face if I'd asked for or even spent my "own" money on a $400+ designer book bag.
