Why oh why do so many guys live with their parents?!

Re: Why oh why do so many guys live with their parents?!

  • These days I'll give a person a pass to live with the parents IF

    1) they are still in their 20's

    2) are actually, truly saving their money to buy a house. Not  living at home and having more money to party.

    3) are in school full time and actively working on getting their degree and getting out.

    Them's my rules.

Plus like you said, there is the level of comfort that a person has. Is it temporary circumstances keeping them there? Or is it that they are comfortable having their mom take care of everything?

For me, it would take some damn special circumstances for me to date a guy living at home in his 30s, like he's just finishing med school or something.

Don't rule a guy out because of it, but definitely make sure he's not a bum. And it's not a COL thing either. When I lived in Florida, I knew tons of people (more guys than women) well into their late 20's still living at home. Most of them just content to be there.

  • It would be a dealbreaker for me too.  My brother lived at home until he was 31, and he is a total mama's boy.  Every time he is in trouble, he just cries to mama to help him and she does.  Even now that he is married.

You are right to stay away.

and yeah, I get that for some guys it works, one of DH's friends stay with his parents until eh got married at 30 and bought a 700K house, but I would still rather poke myself in the eye repeatedly than go out with that kind of guy.
