Naturally curly haired peeps
What do you use on your hair to hold the curl, but keep the shine and frizz away? I normally straighten my hair but when I do wear it curly, I find the frizz overpowers the curls sometimes.
If it helps, I have super tight curls, not loose wavy ones.
Always be yourself. Unless you suck.
Re: Naturally curly haired peeps
I'm confused as to why you don't want shiny hair.
I've used frizz-ease finishing creme forever. I like Schwartzkopf's ... I think it's called curl 2 curl spray.
Yeah that's right my name's Yauch!
I primarily use L'oreal melting gel.
I have also used Sunsilk Captivating Curls, and that was good too.
I find the expensive curl stuff does nothing more for me than the inexpensive stuff, and since I don't use it much, I don't invest. The same is not true for straightening products.
I co wash with vo5 strawberry
condition tresemme naturals
leave in v05 strawberry
seal with ky liquid
3 quarter sized globs of la looks sport gel
1 dime size glob os bio silk rock hard gelee
plop for about 10 minutes
scrunch with t-shirt
clip and air dry
scrunch out the crunch with ky jelly
my curls hold all day and I get great 2nd and 3rd day hair
I am a 3a/3b
Oops. I was typing two thoughts at once. It made sense in my brain. I want shiny hair! I do! I really do!
I do the same thing too but I use Suave Naturals Conditioner to Co-Wash and I use Shea Moisture products for my leave in and butter/oils to seal. I'm a 3c/4a.
I'm still horrible @ using gel to hold the curls but I heard it works wonders.
my hair is almost to my waist wet, bra strap length wet. I use quite a lot of gel. For 2nd and 3rd day hair I flip my head over, smooth in ky jelly, then scrunch in about 3 quarter sized globs of v05 strawberry. I rarely have frizz and the v05 reactivates the gel, I get great hold and no crunch
yep KY is glycerin and a whole lot cheaper than Curl Keeper. it is almost identical ingredients
glycerin really keeps my frizz under control
Preparation H on the face for primer.
Lube in the hair.
Ass to mouth.
blabity blabity blah
Yeah that's right my name's Yauch!

I did not get good results from KCCC, I was never sure how much to use. how long is your hair and how much do you use
Usually when people don't get great results with KCCC, it's because they're using too much.
I have hair that's probably about 2 inches past my bra strap. I use a VERY small amount. I'd say nickle sized. When I found out about it on nc.com, it seemed like everyone was using a CRAPload, so I thought that was normal. I hated it at first. Then I played around and realized that the less, the better. Another poster on TIP has super (goooorgeous) curly hair and after I mentioned this to her, she reduced the amount drastically and magically, KCCC was great for her.
But, as all curlies know, it's different for EVERY curly... so KCCC just might not be your thing. It's my go-to right now. Right now my routine consists of cleansing/conditioning with Wen, one pump of Wen for a leave-in, nickle-size dollop of KCCC scrunched in, plopping while I do my makeup and then the Pixie Curl method for drying with a diffuser. It's the least complicated routine I've had in awhile.

Is this English? lol. What is plopping? Co wash? KY? I'm so confused!
I have KCCC underneath my sink. I might try to use it again when I wash my hair this weekend.
Here are the tips to use the gel:

It's Curl-ish ;o)
Plopping is basically putting all your wet hair on top of your head secured with a t-shirt/flour sack so the curl doesn't get rough up and the curl pattern dries correctly.
Cowash is really just washing with conditioner.
KY is KY Jelly.

My hair does NOT work like that. I have to lightly scrunch. I can't do that separating, coating the hair with KCCC, twirling, etc. My hair FREAKKKKKS out. Like... you can't even imagine how bad it looks.
I think for curlies, once you come to the terms that what will work for someone might not work for you, it's so freeing. I've had years of doing something/using something because other curlies lovedlovedLOVED it... to no avail. It's all about trial & error, baby!

AGREED and AMEN to that
True! The first time I used KCCC with those directions, my hair turned into a dry mess unforunately. I started just using leave in and butters/oils to make my hair happy.
Light scrunch might be my answer.
Sweet, I'll have to check that out. It's funny, I was going to post a very similar question about what products to use. I've had long hair forever, but I just chopped it all off and now I don't know what to do with it. My H swears by Jessicurl, but it hasn't worked for me.
Finally another Curly Girl! I'm 2a/2b
Some of these are very complicated.
I wash my hair, or just put in conditioner, rinse. Run a wide tooth comb through, flip my head over, scrunch with towel, then put a bit of gel/product in and let it air dry. No shaping, plopping, diffusing, anything.
I like your simplicity!
I read through the comments and now have some tips.
No comb, no brush, and especially no towel ever.
Your fingers are the best comb you have, a t-shirt is the most gentle way to squeeze water out of your hair, cold water rinse, no lather cleansing, moisture moisture moisture, flip your hair over and shake it when it's saturated to loosen the curls, add product when it is really wet, and Deva cut.
Best cut of my entire lyfe. I just wish it wasn't so expensive. And an hour away.
