I have to come out of lurking to share that I ate a salad this weekend that had french fries in it. As in the ingredients were lettuce, blue cheese, onions, bacon and french fries. It was the most delicious thing ever!

    Your insides are rotting!

Unless you are obese, you are clearly bulimic.

  • My mother is like this. I mean, she eats a pretty balanced diet but she eats whatever she wants in whatever quantities and she weighs about 85 lbs. She won the metabolism jackpot.
  • SUCKY UNFAIR GENE DISTRIBUTION!

That's what I say about this.

And also, I'm a fatty-fatty-fat-fat who struggled with bulimia for years. Never got out of the obese range, even after losing a ton of weight and looking pretty good. So I don't claim she's obese!

And I feel for you, bridey!

I lived in Pittsburgh for a few years and my fondest memory is of discovering the joy of having your French fries served in the middle of your sandwich.

Well, maybe.  Unless she drops dead at age 40 from an unforeseen embolism.  Then I'd say you got the better genes.

    Being skinny < being dead.

Maybe it's better at the original Primanti Brothers, but I had this at the Primanti in Ft. Lauderdale and was underwhelmed.  The fries sucked up all the sauce from the cole slaw, and it ultimately seemed dry.

I cannot believe I'm saying this, but I felt like it needed more mayo.  Yes, ON A SANDWICH WITH FRIES PILED INSIDE!

The only part of your post that makes any sense to me is "more mayo."  Beyond that, I see only gibberish.

Yes Salads with French fries are my favorite kind of salad. And I do have a special place in my heart for Primanti Bros.

ETA: Primanti Bros. exists outside of Pittsburgh? Huh?

This made me LOL so hard in my office.

That's pretty much all I even want to contribute to this thread, since I ducked under my desk at the "All you have to do is decide you want to lose weight to lose weight" comment.

They have a location in Ft. Lauderdale, right across the street from the beach.  Although underwhelmed by the sandwich, I really liked the pizza.

H and I were super excited that they had Yeungling since we can't get it 'round these parts.

  • Primanti Brothers is overrated. Those sandwiches definitely needed more mayo. Since I'm vegetarian and can't say everything is better with bacon, I can say everything is better with mayo. And it's true.

  • The actual food at Primanti Bros. is irrelevent.  It's the genius of fries in a sandwich that made me go all Tinker-Bell-on-a-lightswitch.

Having grown up in Ft Laud I just assumed it was a tourist restaurant until a couple years ago.

Bridey, they also serve yeungling at a bar a few blocks away, near the mall.  You know, in case you're ever in my old stomping grounds again.

  • I had a friend who could eat like this and never gain a pound in high school.  I took secret pleasure in the fact that she had backne.

I knew another girl who was like this but her feet always smelled so awful you could actually smell them across the room.  So at least when I enter a room, no one checks their shoes to see if someone stepped in poo.

    Small victories.

    Go babies Caden!

  • IIOY have you ever been to Rutgers? Apparently they have these sandwiches....like mozzarella sticks with French fries with god knows what else.  "fat sandwiches" apparently.  I'm a bad wife of a Rutgers alum bc I have never had these.

I did, however, make H list the Ben and Jerry flavors at Safeway today (he stopped on the way home) and describe several of the flavors to me over the phone.  I went with milk and cookies and then told him to grab a half gallon of chocolate ice cream while he was it.  It's like pregnancy has removed all my inhibitions.

And as one more anecdote - my mom was like your receptionist probably.  She weighed like 105 pounds at 5'6" after having four babies.  She would eat a dozen doughnuts in one sitting and not gain a pound.  But fast forward 20 or 30 years and her weight has been an epic battle bc she never learned to eat healthy.  So for many people it will  catch up to them (and then she lost 20 pounds this winter by cutting out cake.  But for her eating is like an addiction, so cutting out cake is really hard for her.).

And then some people are just thin, all their lives, no matter what.  Healthy or unhealthy, sometimes life just isn't fair and it sucks.

I love it when you take awesome things I find and hit them right out of the f$cking ballpark.  It makes me cry a little, on the inside.  Tears of Joy, of course.

Is there seriously no skinny and healthy choice?

Or skinny and beating you in the 5K? Just wondering.

    Interesting thing you said here.

  • I'm not sure if what I'm going to say here is going to come out the way I want it to but whatevs, here goes.

I kind of sort of bothers me just a wee bit when people presume that "maybe that's all she eats" means that homegirl is walking around starving to death. And by bothers me, I mean I shrug in passing and move on about my day.

The truth is, I eat like crap. I make pretty healthy dinners most of the time and I make sure my children eat well and eat appropriately but I've developed an eating pattern and I have no success in breaking it. I don't eat a whole lot and what I eat is questionable but I'm not starving myself, trust. I basically just eat some of what I feel like eating throughout the day.

I never said there wasn't. There are plenty of skinny, healthy people.

But I'd never choose that option! Oh wait, just kidding. Seriously, I'd rather be alive at 60 than not, even if I need a rascal. Why is that surprising? In all other scenarios that involve me being alive in both options, I'd probably choose skinny.
