Two Texas Rangers fans: douchey or not?
Re: Two Texas Rangers fans: douchey or not?
The family was just on the Today Show. They don't care that the couple kept the ball, the couple wasn't douchey about it, and most importantly...the couple *did* offer the ball to the boy when they realized what happened. The family said no thanks and used it to teach their son about not getting everything he wants.
Also, FYI, that couple was at their first Rangers game together and are getting married tomorrow. As a fan, if I were them, I'd be pretty excited about that ball. But I'm also a douche.

Interesting. I'm glad the family spoke up.
DD #1 passed away in January 2011 at 14 days old due to congenital heart disease
DD#2 lost in January 2012 at 23 weeks due to anhydramnios caused by a placental abruption
Ditto
But a nearby kid was CRYING for the ball and that trumps everything.
I talked to my H about this last night who is a die hard baseball fan. And he was 100% on "give it to a kid" team. I was really suprised. I tried to say "What about if you are like the biggest fan ever" sort of scenerios and he still firmly was on give it to a kid. He got a ball from a hard core Padres fan back in 89 and still remembers it. Still has the ball and worships the player that hit it. He is certain that it means more to a kid than an adult. But he also thought the couple was just unaware and not trying to be douches.
I'd actually probably agree with this more if the kid was 6 or something. How much do people remember from when they are 2?
This is a good point. But I think he just felt by default a child should have it. But yes his experience was from when he was around 8 years old and actually able to pay attention and follow the game. He was already a budding fan at that point.
Well, then I retract that they are douchey, but maintain that those that take balls from kids are douchey. But, I am willing to take it as more info comes out, as it did here.
This makes me very, very happy. What a kind thing to do!
Edit: I bet, too, every time they tell the story they say "Remember the time that lady gave us her place in line so we could have tea at the AGP? That was so nice of her! We had such a good time!" You made their fun even more special by your kindness.
