H&F Monday Randoms

Doing the "how long can you hold a plank" exercise at CrossFit today right now was kind of hilarious and futile.  It was like working against a 5 pound counterweight made up of angry squirrels.

Peanut Butter Cheerios + milk + chocolate whey protein powder = awesome.

Your turn.

Re: H&F Monday Randoms

  • my feet are so sunburned that I cannot wear shoes today. photographed a road bike race yesterday and got burned to a crisp despite using half a bottle of sunscreen. I will have to see if I can put my cycling shoes on tonight.

Sorry for typos. I am on my crappy Blackberry.

  • "5 pound counterweight made up of angry squirrels"...I love that.  SO much.

I have been sitting on the couch for the last hour, desperately trying to motivate myself to go on some sort of a run.  This is not happening for two reasons: 1.  yesterday's hot, sweaty miserable six miler (with a pit stop at home after 3 miles for water and a few mins with my head stuck in my freezer) is far too fresh in my mind and 2.  I really am just not in the mood to cover myself in sunscreen again.  #1 means I really need to get back in the "run at dawn" routine...and #2 means its going to be a LONG summer.

So instead, I'm sitting on the couch.  Nesting, eating popcorn and pepperjack cheese (what?), and drinking a Pepsi Max.  At this point, I'll be lucky if I make it to the gym.

  • I gained too much weight during pregnancy. My doctor and husband both said it was fine though because I was smaller. Well now I have 20 pounds to lose 4 weeks after giving birth and I feel gross. It is going to be a slow process :(

  • My coworkers asked about my 5k time and asked me if I took a nap mid-course. I was kind of upset about that. They are your typical jock-guy types stuck working in IT.

Dude, you just gave birth.  Take it easy on yourself.  It took 9 months to put it on, and it can take 9 months (or more) to take it off.

I'm with you. 10 weeks PP and 14 pounds to go. I also feel gross. My belly, hips and thighs are so squishy. And I worked out hard all the way up to my C-section.

  • Last week was awful. I tried to stop a fight between my dogs on Thurs morning and got bitten in the leg, so I can run. There is a very very good chance that my mom suffered a small stroke that is causing her not to be able to understand what she's seeing. I really need to run in order to deal with the changes, but I can't since my legs is super bruised.

  • I am tired of being sick & not having any energy. And, of course since I'm not working out much, I have less energy than usual. It's a vicious cycle. I want everyone in my family to feel better!

  • We went to costco this weekend and I bought 3 costco-lulu tanks and a pair of capris.  I want to go back and buy all the other colors now too.

I brought chicken breast and greek yogurt with me for lunch today, but I really want pizza instead.

  • I had such a great H&F week last week, it really lifted my spirits.

I ran a half on 4/29 and killed it, PRing by almost 4 minutes, then this past saturday night I ran the 5k of a local running festival (took my time and really enjoyed it), then yesterday morning I ran the half marathon for the same running festival and got my 2nd best half marathon time.  Yesterdays half was much harder than last weeks (even though the course was easier), but mentally it was a lot tougher, by mile 2 I knew it was going to be a long race.  I stuck it out though and am extremely happy with my time.  I've never ran 3 races in a week, so I wasn't sure how tired I would be yesterday.  I took a nice nap when I got home :)

  • I'd like to bring salads to eat for lunch at work, but I can't figure out how to pre-make them and have them not end up soggy by lunch time. I'm not willing to go through the effort of bringing each ingredient in a separate container and then mixing them at the last minute. That's just way too much work.

For some reason I read this as you had a 25-lb baby!  LOL, I am slow on the uptake today.

So I'm still bitter about getting sick and missing my 10K yesterday.  They posted the race results and there were only 3 people in my age group!  And I could have easily beaten all three of their times!  (And I'm not even that fast!)  Oh, well, at least the race was the only thing I missed out on over the weekend.  The next few weekends are going to be crazy busy, so at least I was sick over a not-so-busy weekend.

What kind of protein powder do you use?

Whatever's cheapest at the store.  I think I have Target brand currently, but I'm not picky about ingredients and sweeteners and the like.

No, that's just it. They are runners, but they have been for a long time. I took up running 6 weeks ago.

Go to walmart/target/homegoods and see if you can find a salad container that at least has a little cup for dressing.

    http://www.fit-fresh.com/products/transportation/saladshaker.php

I have something similar to the above that I found at homegoods for around $8. I put everything in my sald except for dressing and never have a problem with it being too soggy. I eat salad almost every day for lunch and love this thing.

Can you just add the dressing at the last minute?  Also, with the vegetables/other stuff, add a paper towel to the bag/bowl/container.  It can help absorb some of the water to help keep stuff fresh.

  • I just ate a small scone and a piece of sweetbread.  I wasn't hungry, and they weren't all that good.  Fail.

I really really need to implement "If it didn't come to work with me, It's not leaving work in me" on non Friday BBQ days.  Ugh.

I made these No-Bake Energy Bites this weekend (found 'em on Pinterest), and they are so yummy - kind of high in calories, but there's good stuff in there, right?

    image

I made those and they never formed balls when I tried to. I thought I used enough honey. So, DH and hate them in spoonfuls.

  • Speaking of running, DH and I flaked on a birthday party on Saturday b/c some of the people there are a bunch of jock runner asshats. They have made fun of DH and his lack of running. Diicks. Um, my husband does not run. I have told you that over and over again. Period. He hates it and I am not going to force him to do something he does not want to do. Also, yes, I am aware I do not have the typical "runners body" but stop telling me I need to eat more veggies. Fck you.

Mind you, we are talking about 30-40 yrs olds here. Not high schoolers.

In other H&F news, I went on a new running trail yesterday and I loved it! It was so quite and peaceful. I think it may be my new running spot during the warmer months.

This kind of stuff just makes me shake with rage. Especially the 'runners body' stuff. Seriously, anyone can run. Some will naturally be better at it because of genetics, but that doesn't mean that the rest of us can't. Don't have to win the race to run it.

    Asshats *hugs*
