I don't recall anyone joking about leaving the country when we were paying over $4 a gallon for gas, having a hard time paying for prescription drugs, healthcare, getting and paying for health or life insurance, or getting laid off without notice because someone overseas got their job. There are people I know who have dealth with at least one of these issues and don't see what's so wrong with now having a president who recognizes and wants to do something to alleviate these issues.
Re: Why now?
I honestly don't even know where to begin.
Preach it Alesha! I was wondering what that post below was about. It's sad that some people would joke about moving to another country after we elect a president that can actually help FIX our situation.
It's funny how some people can be so patriotic one year, and as soon as they don't get their way, the want to move to another country. Hmm...
Where are the Country First people today? I don't care if you voted for McCain. I LIKE John McCain and agree with him on many issues. But the world is not coming to an end because this country chose a liberal.
IMO I don t think Obama is very patriotic!
The good this is that's just YOUR opinion, the better thing is that the majority of American citizens thinks he is patriotic.
What has he done to be patriotic? Maybe I missed something? He wont even wear the American flag.
FWIW, I never said I was moving out of the country. Just to clear that up.
I didn't vote against Obama because he's black, because he's liberal, or because he's the Anti-Christ. Please.
For one thing, I think Obama's tax plans are completely disastrous. Taxing those who earn more (the people who employ and pay you) while 43% of income earners pay NO tax is ridiculous. More jobs will be lost, and even more money will go overseas.
It's great that people want to fix these issues. But I do not think Obama's plans will do that.
Oh - and 52% to 46% is hardly overwhelming.
Exactly! Be an American, no matter what. I don't care what anyone's issues are with either candidate. The president elect has been chosen, so just deal with it like we've dealt with all past presidents, good or bad. We'll see what happens. If McCain had won, we would also be hoping for the best and roll with the punches.
Have you even listened to any of his speeches? Are we talking about the same person?
Do you have to wear a flag to prove you are patriotic? That's like saying if I don't carry a Bible around everyday then I'm not religous. I'm done with this topic! I just hope you've done your research.
I'd say 338-163 is.
i'm sorry, teakum, i completely disagree with this statement. i think it is terrible that people have labeled him as unpatriotic b/c he didn't wear a pin. he serves this country every day as a community organizer, in chicago, as a lawyer before that, and as a senator. he has worked his butt off in this election for US. if that is not patriotic i don't know what is. a pin does not make you any more or less patriotic. and it's unfortunate that people think that way.
In electoral votes, yes. I was referring to individual Americans, where the popular vote was 52-46.
My feelings about Obama have nothing to do with the fact that he's black or the "anti-christ"....that's simply ridiculous. I personally disagree with him on pretty much all of his social issues...abortion, gay marriage, etc. I don't see how anyone who calls themselves a Christian could vote for him.
I also disagree with his so-called "redistributing of wealth." Why should my hard earned dollars be taken away from me and given to someone that is too lazy to get off their a$$ and get a job or graduate from school? Not to mention government-run healthcare...omg.
If we went by strictly popular vote then our current president would have never been elected.
Bethany - I think we just need to agree to disagree My first comments were not directed at you, and I don't want you to think I am attacking you.
That's fine! We can agree to disagree - we will never reach a settlement here. I didn't think you were attacking me, I just wanted to clear that up in the beginning of my statement.
I know that we do not go by popular vote, and I agree with that. The electoral votes may have been overwhelming, but take away 2 states' worth and they'd be equal. The popular vote more closely shows the stance of individual Americans, whether it counts or not. That was my point.
i'm actually a bit offended by that statement. i am christian, and i voted for him. jesus taught us about tolerance/forgiveness for everyone. i think it is one thing to have conservative views (which i do have for myself), but to impose those views on everyone is not the spirit that the constitution of the US was based on.
I didn't mean to offend anyone. In fact, because I'm a Christian, I'm willing to accept Obama as the leader God has chosen for America at this point in history...I'll follow him and give him the same chance I would give anyone else who had been elected. However, Obama's views on certain social issues go completely against my beliefs as a Christian...that's all I'm saying. These are only opinions, and they can only be taken for what they're worth. At the end of the day, I'm going to accept Obama and give him a fair chance. Only time will show us if he can live up to his promises. I honestly hope that he turns out to be an amazing president and can turn our economy around. I hope he proves me wrong..for the sake of America.
Amen!!!
you know i love you celeste...but yeah, that statement kind of bothered me too... having family members who are affected by certain social issues has really broadened my perspective on issues of morality vs. issues of politics....
God will make judgments one day....it isn't my place to make those judgments and impose my beliefs on others...
just opinions...
*backing out of the post*
I agree completely. Well said.
Well then aren't we lucky to live in a country where we can vote according to OUR** (oops) beliefs? I don't really see the need to be getting nasty over each other's beliefs.
We're all entitled to our own opinions and occasionally they're going to clash. This is getting rediculous.
man...i love me some dried cherries? anyone else??
i just polished off a bag....
Exactly!
Celeste said her piece, and that was her personal opinion. I don't think she meant to offend anyone.
I am personally offended by a lot of the crap I see on a daily basis, but it's definitely within others' rights to post it! Wouldn't be America if we had to censor ourselves all the time
Thank you, Tiff! It offended me, too, even if that wasn't Celeste's intent. I am also pretty conservative when it comes to my life and my decisions, but I don't think it is my right to impose my beliefs (and make laws based on those beliefs) on people who disagree.
See, that's the beauty of OPINIONS....you're entitled to YOURS, and I'm entitled to MINE...my opinions however, aren't going to change.
