They say that part of the reason he is well liked is because of his personality. I don't get it. I don't like his personality at all. He comes across as haughty to me.
Re: Obama's Personality
Why does he come across as haughty to you?
He came across this way to me since day one based based on his mannerisms and the way in which he speaks. If you Google Obama haughty it looks like a lot of people see him this way.

You don't like Obama, so of course you're going to see him in a negative light.
I think he's charismatic and engaging. I like his cadence and his mannerisms. I think he speaks eloquently without sounding smug.
But I like him.
On the flip side, I think Ryan sounds condescending and douchy. Romney seems insincere.
I can find numerous websites that agree with me.
I think he's a pretty charismatic fellow. He did after all give us hope. You would have to be bold and likeable to get people to vote that wouldn't have normaly.
I get why you think he's haughty though. The apology tour really pissed me off as did he comments to the small business owners a few weeks ago.
Those comments made me LIVID!!! He has NO CLUE!
And I know Fez will poo poo this statement, but Michelle isn't much better. I appreciate her get moving campaign but what she said to Gabby Douglas on the tonight show were flame worthy in its own right. I have been saying for almost 4 years that I cannot stand his arrogance , but she is just as bad.
What did she say?
About the Egg McMuffin?
Well, no. That's not what Michelle said.

Beyond cocky here.....

Umm ok...I am genuinely confused as to why people see him as likeable. It's mind boggling to me.
Sorry that you are such a bully. You must hate yourself. Putting me down does not work! I have a self-esteem.
"Egg McMuffin?" Leno presses. "Yeah, Gabby, don't encourage him," Obama jokes. "I'm sure it was on a whole wheat McMuffin." (Obama's platform as First Lady focuses on encouraging healthy habits among young people.) Adds FLOTUS, "You're setting me back Gabby!"

Totally the same thing...
You see haughty, I see relatable. I love seeing him with his sleeves rolled up playing basketball and yes, even giving fist bumps. Romney to me is like my uncle who lives in a totally different world than I do and we just don't connect at all because we don't have much in common. I feel like if I were to sit down and have a conversation with each of them Obama would "get" our situation and why continuing to give tax cuts to the rich wasn't helping us at all and Romney would be clueless.
I do think Romney would be more likable if he didn't have the Right Wing Christians to please, to be honest. I get the impression his views haven't necessarily changed since the 90s the way he says they have in order to gain their support, but I could be wrong.
I find that he does not want to engage with those who oppose him, unlike Romney who of course had to engage with those of the opposing party out of necessary, being elected in a blue state. He has never that I know of been part of a milieu that isn't liberal, nor has he ever spoken to a group that was predominantly of those with differing points-of-view.
Petulant and thin-skinned are other words I would use to describe him, like the "I won" or the time he told a lady that if Rubio got in, he might need to watch it or he might get his a___ kicked. Even the Clint Eastwood chair quip, "this seat's taken," could be jolly and humorous, or could be thin-skinned.
Good point.
Actually, I see that both candidates can be seen as haughty.
Obama cam be seen this way due to his education, and suave demeanor.
Romney can be seen this way due to his mega-millions.
Anyway, who cares?! When it comes down to the brass tacks, it's all about track record and experience. If the POTUS is a PITA or a SOB, I do not care. Get the job done. And if you can't do it, step aside and let someone else have a try.
I'm not voting based on who I want to hang out with...I cannot relate to either one on a personal level and who cares? I'm not hiring (voting them in) them to be my friend or travel companion.
That's also the sad part about TV. Americans are very swayed by the good looking due to televised debates. For presidents: Obama is by far better looking than Romney. VPs....lol...I don't even need to go there; it's obvious.
I want to think the American people are about platform and record, but a person's physical appearance has sway and it shouldn't. Our president should be able to look like a zombie and get elected if his/her ideas and work can get the country back on track.
It's funny, in the beginning everyone complained that Obama was too charismatic and not substantive enough; recently, he's gotten a lot of flak for getting right down to business and not schmoozing enough.
I actually recognize that personality plays a roll in politics - I mean, their primary job is to cut deals and such. But who really thinks we know what Obama's personality is? Or Romney's? Or any other high profile politician who you only ever see on PR stints?
You're kidding, right? About all of it? Paul Ryan is not attractive and the Republicans do not have a solid plan to fix the economy. Their plan is Bush's plan. Remember how well that worked? It's the mess everyone's in right now. At least they're focusing on what's important, though.
When you compare Ryan to Biden, Ryan is better looking...I think many woman would agree to this statement. Obviously, you think differently.
That aside, everybody is swayed by physical appearance. It's normal and it's ingrained in us.
Do you think the person watching a CNN blip on an ATL gate TV screen, for 3 minutes is an informed voter? Yet these are people who do vote. They do not necessarily know the issues (Reps and Dems are guilty of this), but they head to the polls. So Mr. CNN blip who saw a sound bite on the news in an airport waiting area casts his vote. And, we get Bush or Obama.
And, yes I think there is quite a bit of, "Oh he looks like a nice guy, I can relate to him so he gets my vote."
GOOGLE "Did JFK win the debate due to tv." There are articles, and studies, and a whole lotta things out there that say in the very least there is a good case for TV helping the better looking person and hurting the awkward or homely candidates.
So, I'm not making it up.
