The more I think about it..............
This hatred people have for Obama, seems to me not to be
related to his record in office. I think it is racially motivated.
Even the Clinton haters, both Bill & Hilary, weren't this rabid.
We stll live in very bigoted country. I am so very sad to say.
Re: The more I think about it..............
Believe what you want but his record and arrogant attitude sucks!!! I find black men very attractive and would not rule out dating a black man. I also have black friends. Personally, I am far from racist!!!
Whenever someone has to say they have black friends to prove they are not racist, you know they are racist. Ijs...non-racist people do not say that because its ignorant. This is diversity 101.
Oh ok...whatever you say, crazy!
I have been reading posts on this board for a while now and I became a member specifically to reply to this.
To claim that citizens of this country are unhappy with Obama base on race alone is ridiculous. I do believe you are correct when you say the opposition to Obama is more "rabid" than for the Clinton's, but the reason for that is simple. Compare Obama and Clinton...when it comes down to their records and policies Clinton was actually somewhat successful. That is what people are looking at, and that is why people are frustrated.
Drop your race card and let's focus on facts.
AMEN!
Oh of course, bring out the race card. What a load of crap.
Believe me there is enough wrong with this president that his race totally does not matter.
This just seems to continue the liberals' inability to actually defend him based on his record.
You should be ashamed of yourself for bringing race into it. It makes you look like the racist.
Where Obama was born is the least of our concerns with this president. I don't think it's as much of an issue for most in the up-coming election as it was in 2008.
I believe it is because of his background which raised the questions. Combined with the fact that he refused to release his birth certificate. It's not because of his race. Now, do I think you can become president without proving you were born here? No. But, I do think that he had an opportunity to end all doubt by just showing the American people what they were asking for and he chose not to.
It's the same as everyone going after Romney for his tax returns. Do they only want to see them because he's white? No.
Haha, exactly.
Yeah, if I hadn't seen the birther thing brought up on this board in the last month then I would vehemently disagree. But I did, so I won't.
I do think that are a lot of non-racists in the GOP. But politics has gotten so vitriolic, sometimes it's hard to tell them from the racists. I mean, when someone starts attacking Obama because "he's a narcissist" it's hard to take it as a serious political complaint and not some weird personal vendetta, YKWIM?
To a point, sure. But I think it's a relatively small fringe (I hope so, anyway)- but it's the fringe that likes to jump on issues like his birth certificate and his religion and get people worked up about 'facts' that are complete BS. Even Romney made a birth certificate jibe a few weeks ago.
Or- remember back in '08 when suddenly it became a big deal that his middle name is Hussein? Should have been a completely innocuous thing, but people rely on bad associations to fuel people's prejudices. Remember this? :

Biggest *facepalm* moment of that entire election season. McCain handled it very nicely, but did not point out the obvious fact that the president of the US can be Arab, can be Muslim, can be Kenyan, whatever, so long as he/she was born a citizen and meets the other age and residency requirements. Too much of the push-back on those issues (from both sides) is focused on 'No, Obama is not a Muslim'- not, 'What would it matter if he were?'
He did show his birth certificate multiple times, fyi.
Oh dear god. For real?
Except he did release his birth certificate, in '08 during the campaign. It's a standard US birth certificate. Looks a lot like mine from Ohio.
But that wasn't enough for the conspiracy-theorists, even though that is the standard form anyone receives when they request a copy of their information. The one released in 2011 had to be specially requested because the state of Hawaii changed their policies in 2001 regarding information disclosure and photocopying vital records, resulting, instead, in the 'short-form' abstract versions that are the only form of birth certificate most people will ever need.
I don't recall saying he never showed it to anyone. If you could point that out, that would be great.
I was explaining why Republicans felt the way they did at the time, and that it was not driven by race, which is the question that was asked, fyi.
And as for the race thing, no other President has ever been asked by the public to show his birth certificate, and no other President has even been doubted like Obama has.
At the time he did refuse. That statement is not incorrect, however yours still is. That is not what I said.
Valiant effort though.
This is true.
That being said, look which side brought it up. It's even sadder that one's race is used to blackmail people into voting for you.
I think you saw the birther issue brought up by one person. That seems to just be a deflective play on your part. Steer the conversation away to some other issue.
And I bet there are some non-racists people in the democratic party too. Really, I bet there are some.non-racist democrats even though most of them seem to be very full of hate.
right?? this post just pisses me off. race is the least of our concern right now....he is half white..BTW
I think we all can agree that he has shown his birth certificate and is eligible to be President. However, just two weeks ago, a Secretary of State was entertaining the idea of removing his name from the ballot. Why would that be if it isn't racism? I have never seen this type of issue with any other president. I also don't understand why fiscally conservatives would waste money spending time on this issue.
Do I think ever republican is racist and that is not why they are voting for Obama? No. But there are some strong tones in a small segment of the Republican Party. I also don't think this makes the party racist, but their convention looked horrible in terms of racial diversity! If you have black friends, clearly you should have road tripped with them to that convention. As I said before, it doesn't make republicans racist but it does appear to be a party of inclusion either.
I think it is hard to explain why public officials are still questioning putting his name on the ballot without acknowledging that some racism is at play.
Yeah, it was only brought up by a few people, and I question if those people are racist. How is that steering the conversation away from racism? Or is accusing me of deflection your attempt at deflection?
Also, lol @ democrats are very full of hate - they want to make sure everyone receives medical care, food, and shelter - those hateful assholes. Which is it? Bleeding hearts or hateful pricks?
I just cackled.
I work in retail, and sometimes in chatting with customers
politics will come up. I noticed that the people who do not
like Obama will express it in almost a whisper, through
clenched teeth. The same way bigots will make a horribly
racist remark to me, like we all belong to what I call The
Secret White People's Club. It made me think about the
hatred for Obama.
That's why I posted this. And I was damned curious to see
the comments.
Yea, I know. Classic.
Just saw this clip on Meet the Press. I really liked McCain in
2000. Would have voted for him. I just couldn't believe W.
got the nom. At that time I asked a very conservative co-worker
her reason for backing W. over McCain and she said " I liked his father,
so I like him", I had wanted a serious conversation on the matter.
That's what I got!
