  • I agree but coverage from Clevelabd is going crazy for Obama. I don't know if he can flip Ohio. What is the path without Ohio?  Early voting is up here more so than in 2008 by 50% and its democrats. I can't see his path. If Obama heavily carries Cleveland, Akron, Columbus and Youngstown and Toledo, I don't know if Romney can win. Obama played right into Cleveland with the mention of the Clinic. It is the largest employer here and getting a lot of go Obama. You know us talk.  I just don't see how he will pull this off. Romney needs more offices in Ohio to make it more competitive.

there is always hope that he can win it.  we still have a few debates left and I have already had a couple friends say that they were for obama going into this debate but now they are for romney.

So there is no path. Just hope that he can win. Good debate Romney but bad election.  May I ask where your friends live?  I wonder what Romney said that changed their minds because neither candidate said anything new. Are they low information voters?  Romney is going to get some points but he is down 8 or 9 points in Ohio. He will not carry this state.

I am eager to know the path of victory for Romney.

  • It's all about the mythical "undecideds". Romney's only hope.

That is B.S. and you know it.  Obama did not have a strong debate performance, but people who were planning on voting for him are not suddenly voting for Romney.  I wish I could insert an eyeroll emoticon.

There may have been undecided voters who decided after the debate to vote for Romney, but the candidates are SO different that is is inconceivable someone would flip from Obama to Romney based on that debate.  Especially after fact checking.  Unless that person is really ignorant.

  • Oh man, I have to agree with you guys.  Obama played it too safe.  I think their strategy had two basic flaws, they assumed 1.)  Obama could wing it (when in reality he hasn't debated in 4 years) and 2.) it was Romney's to lose (when in reality it's a tight race).  I hope this was his wake up call for the next two!

    FTFY!

I mostly agree.  What people like us think of the debate is inconsequential, it all comes down to a few people that are somehow still undecided.

  • Romney won as far as emotional appeals go, which is all most viewers are interested in.
Once you get past his endearing rhetoric and well-rehearsed presence, he still didn't answer many of the questions which independents, such as myself, have been waiting to hear. The debate was more of what we've been hearing for months. Romney focused on what Obama did wrong and what Romney won't do, but he didn't clarify the math of what he will do.
So, Romney did win the emotional appeal, but I doubt he earned many new voters. Most Republicans and Democrats have only buried further into their trenches after watching the first debate, and independents have nothing new to base their vote on. I doubt it will affect polls greatly.

This is where I am at as well.  DH is undecided and last night did nothing to convince him of one candidate or the other.  I tend to be independent with a toe in the water on both sides (depending on the issue.)  I am not buried in a trench and was hoping the debates would help seal the deal for me.  Meh.

  • eye roll all you want. my friends were leaning towards obama going into it and were still undecided and  I'm from the midwest not that it should matter.  Obama got his @ss handed to him last night. bottom line.

even if he doesn't carry that state is it not possible that he could get a couple other states that make up for the number.

  • It is not a time to get cocky if you are a Romney supporter. He has a seriously large uphill battle to fight, and it may be too little too late.

Everyone knew he would do well talking economics. He lives and breathes it. Let's see how the next two go.

  • I think it's ridiculous that the debates are not at least 30 minutes longer. It seemed as soon as Romney or Obama wanted to say more their time was up. There is not enough time for candidates to get into great detail. This has always been a major problem for me when watching debates.

I guess your friends didn't hear all the holes in his plan or bother to fact check.

Romney was a better speaker last night, for sure. But as others stated, his plan hasn't changed.

Too late - how?? They've been almost tied in polls at times. And, there are more debates to follow. Yes. Let's see how the next two go. Hopefully, Obama is awake next time. Seemed almost like he did not want to be there.

And, Obama's plans are so awesome ROFLMFAO!

  • Andplusalso, Romney wants to cut funding for PBS? If he gets elected and takes away Sesame Street and Daniel Tiger... My child will bring the wrath of 10000 suns on his ?ss.

There is NO way his plan will work without raising taxes on the middle class. Just no way.

I agree that would realllly suck but we cannot continue to overspend like we have been doing.

Agreed.  But it is such a ridiculously miniscule percentage of the budget.  That's like scooping the change out of your couch cushions to reduce your mortgage.

  • Restructuring the taxes...that is how. Spurring growth, that's how.

It's all a numbers game. You can get 10 accounting firms to say one thing, and 10 more to prove it's not so.

Because voting is already in progress. He needed to be a well defined candidate well before now.
  • And yet ONE extra mortgage payment a year saves you thousands over the lifetime of a traditional 30 yr mortgage.

^^ That was supposed to be in response to the comment regarding change in cushions.

  • True, we need to cut spending, but 0.012% (PBS) won't do nearly as much good as addressing 20% (DOD and war budget). Romney could raise the military budget 2 trillion dollars, which will hurt us far more than Big Bird ever could.
