thoughts on VP debate?

I thought Biden was angry, rude, and condescending.  I think he could have won this debate, but just watching it was annoying to me.  I loved how ryan looked in the camera for his closing argument and seemed very sincere.

thoughts??

Re: thoughts on VP debate?

  • I think Biden's demeanor simply showed nerves...the smirking, smiling and all that jazz made him appear like a nervous little girl. I keep hearing that the behavior was disrespectful, condescending and so on but I thought it came off as nerves.  Well, a bit of the others, I guess, as well.  I got more slinging out of Biden that I did substance.

I was more impressed with Ryan's foreign policy knowledge than I thought I'd be. I also believe it was another poorly moderated debate.

  • I thought Biden killed it.  I thought he interrupted too much, however he was passionate.  I thought Ryan was smarmy.  He really rubs me the wrong way.  Ryan was so fake. If Biden was too hot, Ryan was too cold.

I didn't agree with anything Ryan said.

ETA: I thought the moderator did great.  The debate was interesting and lively. Just what I was looking for, to be honest.

  • I feel like Biden did interrupt a lot, but you can't fault him for that because Ryan let it happen. What got me was the laughing, specifically as soon as Ryan would begin to talk he had to huff and shake his head like a mad 16 year old. I also thought the moderator was a joke.

I was impressed with his knowledge on that as well.  Also, I felt the moderator kept cutting off Ryan and seemed to question him a LOT more than Biden.  I believe she is all for Obama.  Next weeks debate should be a good one.

  • I think conservatives will say Ryan won and liberals will say Biden won.  In reality, I think Ryan won on demeanor and Biden won on facts.

Agreed.  If I was Ryan I would have asked him if he was ok or what was funny

  • I really don't think we can complain about the moderating, she was a hard ass to both of them - and props to her.

  • I did think it was very classy of Ryan to bring up that the American people would benefit if they didn't interrupt each other. After that he didn't cut Biden off as much but that clearly didn't matter to Biden.
  • So, Biden interrupting is the new Big Bird?

Raddatz has been all for Obama for years.  You can bet your bottom dollar that Romney nor Ryan were guests at her wedding. ;)  Although, to be fair, I believe it was her husband who had more of a connection with Obama - Harvard, I believe and Obama eventually tasked him with heading the FCC. Ahh...politics

  • They were  both condescending at times. Biden interrupted Ryan, but Romney ran all over Leher.

I thought the moderator was great. She wouldn't have had to ask for so much clarification if the questions were answered in the first place. And by answered, I mean with facts and plans rather than vague, repeated statements.

And I did not find Ryan sincere as much as rehearsed in his closing.

  • Biden's demeanor was off-putting.  He will lose the post-debate due to his smiling/smirking/inappropriate theatricality and his comment about how they didn't ask for security.

I don't think this moves the needle at all.  It didn't sway undecided, and the partisans on both sides seemed to be ok with their guy's performance.

There's a big Florida poll that has Romney by 7.

Biden's passion will resonate well with the base but would not appeal to swing voters, esp. certain subsets.  Rude and condescending were key words.  I also felt that Raddatz framed a few issues from the Democratic point-of-view, pressed Ryan a little harder than Biden, and interrupted at a couple of key junctures, like when Ryan had gotten started on the HHS mandate and the Catholic groups that were suing.

CBS had Biden winning.  CNBC and CNN had Ryan winning, at least last I checked when it was 48-44 Ryan with undecideds tied.  The Luntz focus group on Fox said that they were not swayed either way.

  • I did not like the debate, found it too far in the weeds, not enough practical issues.  The debt didn't come up until almost the end.  I did not enjoy watching it and found myself reading Twitter or my FB friends' running commentary.

  • I felt like Biden just crushed Ryan, especially on foreign policy. He did sound like he was lecturing at times, which really made you feel like he was the expert and Ryan was an embarrassed schoolboy trying to keep up.

Biden took a lot of strong jabs at Romney's policy, and Ryan didn't do a lot to block those jabs. It will be interesting to see what lines resonate in the media.

As for Ryan's political future, I actually think he did ok. He was on the ropes most of the fight, but he was never totally knocked out. He was better with his prepared comments than off the cuff, but considering he's got little real experience and was going up against one of the Democratic policy heavyweights, he actually did a bit better than I expected.

I do think they spent too much time on foreign policy and not enough on domestic issues. I personally felt like some of Ryan's dodges on serious holes in the Romney/Ryan tax plan were glaring and obvious, but I admit I have partisan bias and I actually understand how the numbers add up better than the average voter.

Biden's performance wasn't for the swing voters.  He was there to bring the base back.  Given last week's debate, there was no way Biden could have sealed the election.

I agree with this. I think he energized the Left again after last week. I think the Right is content with Ryan's performance. I personally think Biden won but I can see why some were calling it a draw.

I'm just still at the point where I don't know what Romney/Ryan plans to do to fix anything if they're elected or how their administration would benefit me.

  • I think Ryan won hands-down! Even though he is a bit boring to listen to he actually took the time to say what plans he and Romney had for America.

All I remember is Biden making immature faces and constantly interrupting Ryan. Makes you wonder if he laughs his ass off when he meets with other people. He is probably one of the reasons America is losing credibility.

Biden spent his time either distorting the truth or trying to upstage Ryan.Anyone with half a brain cell knows what happened in Libya. It's amazing the Obama administration are clearly lying about what happened. They knew what happened in real time. Obama went to sleep, flew to Vegas to raise cash, and sent Amb. Rice out to lie about it. That's our president!

  • Anyone who can say with a straight face that Ryan won clearly wasn't listening to the actual substance (or lack thereof) of what was said by both men.
  • Ryan looked like someone who was brought up from the minors to pitch in the post-season, and choked under the pressure. Biden just kept hitting his stuff out of the park.

Why do Romney-Ryan always present their tax plan in the form of a riddle?

ETA:Funny last week, when Nit Wit Mitt stood there smirking and looking like a plastic Ken Doll, interrupted the Moderator and the President several times, I didn't hear anyone commenting about that....Biden won!

I didn't see it like this at all.

  • So, Biden was rude and condescending because he wouldn't let Ryan lie on live TV? When Biden interrupts, he's rude; when Romney interrupts, he's passionate. Ok.

  • I think biden and ryan each did what their parties wanted them to do: biden re-energized the left and perhaps stop the slide and change the narrative about obama slipping in the polls, while ryan showed that he seems to know what he's talking about (as opposed to palin 4 years ago) and didn't let biden completely blow him over. There were no gaffes. I think it was a draw.

I thought Martha Raddatz did a fantastic job. When political candidates are trained to be blowhards, I appreciate her pressing on an issue or cutting people off and redirecting the conversation. As for that wedding nonsense, do you have people answer a questionnaire to attend your milestone events? Because I have plenty of racist relatives who I don't agree with, but were still invited and came to my wedding...

Eh, I would compare Ryan more to the #4 starter on the team who pitched 5 innings and gave up 3 runs. It certainly was not a Quality Start, but it also wasn't a "this guy has no future in the league" night for him. He looked green and needs to bone up on foreign policy (some of his answers were just factually wrong, and not for partisan political point scoring; he was just mistaken). But he didn't get completely crushed, so that may actually count as a "win" for him.

Yes. Romney interrupted on occasion but Biden was off his rocker! He was out of control at times and you know it. I wish I had the time to re-watch just to count how many times Biden interrupted Ryan. He did it a LOT!

    Biden didn't LIE? LMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Are you sure you didn't almost turn it off because Biden was besting Ryan left and right?  Ryan was exposed as a liar over and over again.
