Re: 2nd Debate Thoughts?

  • Obama won. Goes to round 3

  • I feel like it was more or less a tie. I don't really think either of them was more personable than the other and I think they pretty even on points.
  • A couple of brief thought for tonight as it's late...

Obama continues to lie about Benghazi. I did find it interesting when the Mod attempted to assist him...but, the transcript shows different.

The drilling issue...more lies as Romney was correct with the licenses and permits...

Really loved the "check your pension" comment...

I am more convinced now than before that we cannot afford four more years of the current administration.

Curious as to how you got to this?  I saw Romney as more confident, more apt to answer the questions rather than defend his positions over and over and more presidential.

Really?  I was wondering the same about your comments.

Obama didn't lie about Benghazi (recall the clapping?).  And I thought it was classy that he didn't let Hilary take the fall - even though in all honesty, it was an assistant to the secretary that likely made the security call.

Regarding drilling, CNN fact checked that Romney's statement was "true but misleading" and Obama's statement was simply "true".

The pension comment was a good point.  Though I wish Obama had pointed out that Romney himself said a blind trust was a shady way to pretend like you don't know or direct where your money goes.  Romney's "blind" trust defense could have been defeated by Romney himself.

  • All I heard was Romney dance around every question and talk about what he did for the Olympics and the school system in Massachusettes over and over again.  He never gave any specifics on what he is going to do going forward.  I also believe that much of the information on Benghazi is still classified so Obama probably couldn't speak on very many specifics at this point and time.  Overall, I give this one to Obama.

Agreed!  I felt Romney was very confident and actually has a plan for the future.  I hated the moderator once again....she cut off romney and even sided with obama.  I feel all obama does is filibuster and do talking points.   a topic of rifles goes to education and a topic of women getting equal pay goes to health care.  I also had no idea that low gas prices means we are going to fall off a fiscal cliff (sarcasm)

I would go more into it, but i was dealing with an idiot on Facebook that likes to debate but with no valid sources.....at least the democrats on here will post ligit links.  so annoyed!

Yeah - I remember the mod trying get her point in too....fail.  Here's the transcript:  http://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2012/09/12/remarks-president-deaths-us-embassy-staff-libya

No where that morning did he call this event an "act of terror" as he stated he did (and the mod agreed to).  Even how many days later, he goes on The View and still will not say it's an act of terror.  He blamed a youtube video how many times (6 or so) at the UN?  Lie.

I did also appreciate the fact that he would let Clinton take the fall either...that gave him a point or two.

I'll have to do more homework on drilling as, what I've read notes about 37% down on permits and an over 40% decrease on new federal land leases.

Thanks for the link, 4th paragraph from the end.

Drilling went from 2 mil per day to 1.8 mil per day in the last reported fiscal year, but it was due to the after effects of the BP oil spill, not Obama's energy policy.

  • Binders of Women, guise.  That was comedy gold.

I was disappointed there wasn't more talk about education or the housing issues.

I'm pretty sure Mitt's 5 point plan is as follows:

    1.  Tell them there is a five point plan.

    2.-4.  ????

    5.  PROFIT.

Obama won this round, hands down.

  • I also think Mitt kind of f'ucked up royally with his allegation that single parents raise violent criminals.

That's not going to sway any single parent undecided voters to his side.

Here's another CNN link on drilling (last 2 paras before conclusion but the conc sums it up pretty well):  http://www.cnn.com/2012/10/04/politics/fact-check-oil-gas/index.html Not "in half" as Romney stated but still a significant decrease IMO; even with DW Horizon in there - they really don't go into details about that in this link though.  Sorta impressed that I was even that close...especially this late. ;)

Exactly what I mean when I say he danced around the question.  He didn't offer one single thing he'd implement to ensure women receive equal pay to men.  That was the question.  The question was not how many women he employed from his binder.  WTF?

I caught that one too.  Ummmm the current president was raised by a single parent and the Colorado movie theatre shooter was raised by two so that blows that one right out of the water.  Again, the question was what is going to be done about assault rifles.  Mittens frustrates me to no end.  Could you please just answer ONE question.  Just one is all I ask.

  • Romney stayed consistent, Obama was definitely more aggressive as expected.

Overall I felt like Romney was focusing more on getting his own agenda across, and Obama was more just finding fault with Romney's instead of explaining his own. Not totally, but the majority of the time.

I am surprised Romney didn't slam Obama harder when it came to the Libya attack response. Everyone knows they went out of their way to blame it on the internet video and didn't provide the necessary security in the first place.

It seemed like Obama refused to answer a lot of questions.

I liked the question by the man saying my day to day life is still not better, despite Obama's accomplishments.

They both have very different ideas about where America needs to go and how to get it there. I am surprised there are still people undecided.

  • Crowley just admitted she had it wrong on defending Obama's terrorism in benghazi. And Obama lied. Romney was right.

I thought they were both aggressive but found Obama on the defense making him look weaker.

Oh good. I thought that was strange she defended him. Everybody knows they blamed it on the internet video and said it was a spontaneous demonstration, and then apologized for it, instead of standing up for our country and admitting it was full blown terrorism against America! He did not call it an act of terror; he said something referencing acts of terror, but was not calling the attack so. They are even replaying his speech everywhere; it's plain as day.

  • I STILL don't know what Romney's economic plan is. I haven't finished watching the whole thing so I can't comment on it as a whole, but from what I did see, Obama certainly came out more aggressive than the last debate, thank goodness.

  • Obama won.....

Obama nailed Romney at the end. Romney can't escape his 47% comments, no matter what he says.

Apparently Mitt "FORGOT" which deductions he was going to cut to make up for the 5 trillion dollar increase the deficit he wants to add. I think I will FORGET to vote for him. Nerve was a option to begin with anyways...

I love how Obama gave specific over specific but Romney had none. I love how Obama stood up to Romney and told him "Yes I take responsibility." Romney had the chance....he blew it. Obama caught him in soooo many lies.

Romney said 1 in 6 are in poverty, and he said he is not willing the top 1% to help out a little more?

Romney lost the biggest point of conflict that he himself created, viz., he denied that Obama had referred to the Benghazi, Libya deaths as a result of "acts of terror" when Obama addressed the Nation from the Rose garden on the day after the attack. If you listen to the transcript (only about 5 minutes long) you will hear Obama referring to these "acts of terror" in a way that clearly encompassed the Lybia deaths which was the subject of the speech.
THIS WAS A BIG LOSS OF CREDIBILITY FOR ROMNEY! HE CAN'T SQUIRM OUT OF IT!

  • FTR, I do think that Candy Crowley did a bad job keeping them in line and it was inappropriate of her to fact check the Libya point if she wasn't going to do so consistently throughout the night.

"It's not surprising, then, they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations."

"If you?ve got a business ? you didn?t build that. Somebody else made that happen." Oh really??

Then you have Biden whose middle name is gaffe.

  • I also love how Obama said he was going to reduce the deficit by 50% in his first term. Did he do this??

"Mr. President did you look at your pension?" LOVED THAT! Obama's response a punky response. He's an azzhole.

Actually, the Benghazi thing is incorrect - Mod even admitted it later.  Obama never referred to the specific Benghazi attack as an act of terror.  Took him another two weeks to come forward with that. I thought they both did what they needed to do although I felt Obama was on the defensive quite often.  I enjoyed Romney's "settling" comment and have to agree with those posters who've figured out that we cannot afford 4 more years.

  • I just feel Romney is so out of touch with what the average Sally America's life is like. I've yet to encounter a Romney supporter who can give me a reason they're voting for him besides along the lines of "More money in my own pocket (who cares about everyone else)" or "I'm anti-choice and anti-gay marriage" or "Guns!"  Maybe someone here can.

  • i think it comes across that Obama won because it was a contrast from his terrible performance last time. In reality he just had a performance on the same level as romney this time. They both danced around questions at times (Obama could not offer an explanation about

gas prices and romney danced around the deductions ). I thought Obama spent more time on personal attacks where as Romney attacked a record. I was disappointed in the way they both answered the last question. it was a chance for them to stay positive and sell themselves and they still bashed eachother.  typing with my sausage fingers on my phone....sorry for the typos :)

Ugh.  Your trying to twist people up over semantics! When Obama said,  ""No acts of terror will ever shake the resolve of this great nation, alter that character, or eclipse the light of the values that we stand for."

To what do you think he was referring? He made that statement the day after the attacks, in the rose garden.   How about we turn to the real issues.  All the coverage I watched on the debate had undecideds disliking Romney trying to hammer on Libya.
