Petraeus Resigns as Director of CIA
NY Times has a breaking news alert. Looking for more info...
ETA- it seems due to an extramarital affair.
Re: Petraeus Resigns as Director of CIA
just heard the same on NPR
Yea- weird huh? I guess there will be something big comming
soon. I think he is resigning before whatever it is comes to light.
Can't wait to see how this plays out.
The military takes the whole adultery thing very seriously- dishonorable discharge seriously. I imagine Petraeus resigned his commission upon taking the CIA job, but it could have just seemed the most appropriate thing to do, given his background with the military and the circumstances.
edit: see article 134 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice, and this article here for more information about how involved the military is in soldiers' bedrooms...
Always the General. Yes, this is how I perceived it as well. Security clearances even take those things into account when doing background and poly. If he lied about it...definite cause for dismissal.
Yea, I forgot about that aspect. (I dated Colonel in the Air Force.)
So you think that is the whole story then?
Oh goodness, no idea- but as a military spouse routinely amazed by stories of soldier foolishness (on this topic and others) it was my first thought, given Petraeus's high standing with the military even if he is no longer commissioned.
I had wondered if Benghazi has anything to do with this.
I hope it does play out that is just about the affair.
Whoa. Yeah. I wasn't even thinking that his affair was with another service member. That's why I was very "meh" about it.
I don't think any of you actually seem to know why he resigned,
But if it was due to an affair and you all are "so what", does that mean adultery is now your new okay normal? So is that another change with the times shift?
I just heard a snippet of this on the radio on my way home. Seems like he will not be testifying at next week's inquiry regarding Benghazi. Interesting....
Funny, it's always the "small government" folks who want to be inside a person's home, bed, uterus...
If he was in the private sector, adultery would mean jackshiit when it came to how well he did his job.
If you think that all CEOs of major corporations are without sin, you are dumb.
He should be fired for what the other said, not for merely committing adultery.
Should JFK have been impeached for getting it on with Marilyn Monroe? Should FDR have been fired for having an affair?
Girl, please. Don't try to blame this on "new fangled ideas". Adultery has been going on for as long as there's been marriage.
I know why he resigned.
9 November 2012
Yesterday afternoon, I went to the White House and asked the President to be allowed, for personal reasons, to resign from my position as D/CIA. After being married for over 37 years, I showed extremely poor judgment by engaging in an extramarital affair. Such behavior is unacceptable, both as a husband and as the leader of an organization such as ours. This afternoon, the President graciously accepted my resignation.
As I depart Langley, I want you to know that it has been the greatest of privileges to have served with you, the officers of our Nation's Silent Service, a work force that is truly exceptional in every regard. Indeed, you did extraordinary work on a host of critical missions during my time as director, and I am deeply grateful to you for that.
Teddy Roosevelt once observed that life's greatest gift is the opportunity to work hard at work worth doing. I will always treasure my opportunity to have done that with you and I will always regret the circumstances that brought that work with you to an end.
Thank you for your extraordinary service to our country, and best wishes for continued success in the important endeavors that lie ahead for our country and our Agency.
With admiration and appreciation,
David H. Petraeus
The most credible current rumor is it is his biographer.
Why wont the conservatives believe anything? I am so confused. There is no conspiracy. We need everyone to come back to reality. The polls aren't wrong. Romney and Ryan did not win every debate. Taxes did not go up on November 7. Obama is a citizen of the US. Racism exist in America. There are not millions of cases of voter fraud. Allowing gay people to marry does not mean we have to allow children to marry adults. Our founding fathers were not perfect. Obama nor did anyone else "let" people die in a terrorist attack. Petraeus had an affair and resigned because of it. The climate is changing.
I am asking in all seriousness. Why the mistrust? Why wont conservatives believe anything? I have never seen anything like this.
Wait a minute. You have to provide a source for every one of these statements. How dare you post this without several unbiased sources.
I do imagine he chose intentionally to wait until after the election to reveal his resignation. But considering he has worked well with both Dems and Republicans, I doubt this is partisan or part of a cover-up.
Why you mad though?

to post a few...
Bullying makes me mad and most of you who came over from the parenting board are a bunch of bullies.
Also, your double standard makes me mad. I mention this only because you asked. I am sure you could not care less.
Says the person who compared liberals to crazy rats.
What double standard? The sources thing? I like to see liberals cite legit, unbiased sources too. Like NA said in another thread, I wouldn't trust MSNBC as my main news source just like I don't think Fox News should be one.
