Does anyone actually like and/or respect Ann Coulter?

http://campusprogress.org/articles/ann_coulter_im_ok_with_revoking_womens_young_americans_right_to_vote/

edit: this is from March but somehow I completely missed it at the time.

In the midst of the back and forth between the two pundits, O?Donnell brought up a quote Coulter gave to The Guardian in 2003 in which she said that women were one group she believed should have their right to vote taken away. When pressed by O?Donnell, Coulter stood by her comments, arguing that every election since 1950, aside from the 1964 Barry Goldwater election, would have been won by Republicans had it not been for the woman vote. Using her typical logic, Coulter said this presents enough reason to disenfranchise women.

O?Donnell pushed further, asking Coulter how she would feel personally if she couldn?t vote. She responded: ?If my entire gender loses it too, then I?m OK with it.?

As if this wasn?t enough to rile up the crowd of Washington, DC college students, Coulter  straddled the line between boldness and absurdity once again and proposed that the voting age should be raised to 26, or ?until you pay for your own health care.? That logic is based on the Affordable Care Act, which allows young Americans to remain dependent on their parents? insurance coverage until they turn 26. She insinuated, and appears to believe, that college students are in the same boat as women and not smart enough to vote (or at least, vote how she wishes they would.)

Although this proposition, as O?Donnell pointed out, would create an awkward conflict with the Constitution, which allows those 25 and older to run for Congress, Coulter stood her ground: ?I never said they couldn?t run, they just can?t vote.?

You can die for your country but God forbid you enter a voting booth!

  • She doesn't offend me, because she doesn't even believe the sh$t she says. She's a performer playing a character - she says crazy things because it gets attention, and attention sells books and speaking engagements.

The people who offend me are the people who think she's for real and actually agree with her crazy.

  • She is a cvvnt.

  • I wouldn't say I respect her.  I think she is entertaining and some of the things that come out of her mouth boggles my mind.  Like PP said, I think she is playing a part and just likes to stir the pot (to help her sell books).

But, just like I didn't agree with her calling the President a retard, Sookie I don't agree with you calling her the C word either.

  • I agree with Sookie, and Geraldo.

And CinemaG. Ok, everybody who already posted.

No, she's a total cuunt.  I use that word very sparingly.  Really, for only two people.  Ann Coulter is one of them.

She's a horrific human being who gets her jollies saying awful things.  See:  Her comments about the wives of 9/11 victims.

She makes her living off of having no internal filter.  It's not a good thing.

  • I really don't get how you think calling someone who regularly practices hate speech a cvvnt is comparable to her "retard" remarks. Really? I mean, really?

    Not trying to admonish anyone.

Just saying I don't feel anybody calling people names is productive. You call her out for her hate speech, but then spew a comment which is full of hate in and of itself.  Which is your right, I just don't believe it serves any purpose.

I think it serves a great purpose: you can't be such a hateful without being called a hateful .  You're not getting all PC on me, are you cincy?

  • I'm with ya, sookie! She is a total cvunt.
  • Cincy, I see your general point about the uselessness of name calling.  But Ann Coulter is intentionally hurtful and offensive to vulnerable populations in order to self-promote.  When it comes to Coulter, it's not a mere difference of opinions.

CB, I understand that and Sookie has every right to her opinion, has every right to express it and I have every right to think it is unnecessary.

That's all I was trying to say....

CB, one of the things I love about this board is that is it chock full of intelligent, articulate women.  Even though my philosophies are a heck of a lot different than others, I enjoy coming here and reading thoughtful, provocative posts.

We, as women, have fought soooo very hard to be taken seriously and respected and it makes me sad to see an articulate intelligent woman stooping to the level of ignorance.  Aren't we better than that?

  • Am I to understand you just inferred I am ignorant for calling a cvvnt a cvvnt? Hey, I heard Westboro Baptist Church dislikes being called evil fuckfaces. You should defend their honor, too. Coulter sets us back 100 years. I delight in calling her a cvvnt. She is vile, hateful and a sideshow. She says hurtful, terrible things for publicity and money. I refuse to use civil words to describe an evil snake simply because we both have vaginas. Get off that high horse, dude.

No, actually I was calling you an intelligent articulate woman and that it makes me sad you feel you have to stoop to HER level of ignorance. I can understand calling her an evil snake, a vile hateful person and pointing out she says hurtful terrible things for publicity and money.

If you can't understand what I am trying to say....I just don't know what to tell ya.

Cincy, no amount of shaming will change Sookie's mind about this.   She is allowed to call Ann Coulter a cuunt because Ann Coulter is a cuunt.   She is and you saying that it isn't "ladylike" for Sooks to use that word isn't going to change the fact that she's a cuunt.

Also, using Sook's daughter like that only makes you look like anasshole.

True, she is allowed to do anything she wants...I said that earlier.  However, I am allowed to feel using that word is unnecessary.

Wasn't trying to shame anyone and certainly not trying to use anyone's child against them..I was only speaking as a mother myself and I would hope my daughter (who is 16) would have more respect for herself than to use such language. I mean you can say a lot to me and it doesn't offend me but the C word is like nails on a chalkboard.  If only sookie could have called her a fvuktard I wouldn't have given it a second thought.

I suppose I am one of the older people on this board and on top of that I am a child of older parents...it is obvious I was raised a little differently...and please don't misinterpret me (again) I am only saying I was raised differently not better than anyone else.

I feel like the whole intent being my post was lost....

  • How old are you cincy?

Like I said in a previous post, I use the word very very sparingly.  From what I've seen of Sookie (after knowing her for almost 2 years) she's the same way.  She doesn't drop that word all willy-nilly.

I try not to use the word "f'ucktard" because it's too close to "retard" and I try not to use that because it's, IMHO, way way waaaaaay worse than cuunt.

    I am 40 (my parents are 77 and 72)

I agree with fvcktard, it was the first things that popped into my head and only used as an example. And I think this whole thing got started with me saying I thought it was ridiculous when Ann Coulter called Obama a retard and I felt the same was about Sookie calling her the C word.

I was just shocked because, like I said, I have been impressed at how intelligent and well spoken the ladies on this board are and I enjoy reading posts even if I don't agree because the are so very well articulated.  I just was thrown for a loop upon seeing this thread.

  • Intelligent/articulate and knowing how to swear aren't mutually exclusive.   The Brtish, who are incredibly articulate and have outstanding vocabularies, also have some of the best swear words in the English language.

I can't speak for Sooks, but using cuunt is the worst possible thing I could say about another woman.  It is as low as it gets.  The person I use that on is not in any way, shape, or form deserving of anything better.   Hence, it is used for Ann Coulter.

I'm not that much younger than you.  I still recognize that there are times when that word is acceptable.  This is one of those instances.

  • Is there some sort of disconnect with this board where they don't realize using the kids in your debate is off limits? Cincy, ffs. Way to derail the thread by channeling my mother. Let it go. Jesus.
