GL @fajita814! We're doing stuff around the house tonight, then going to a Brewfest tomorrow afternoon and a BBQ tomorrow evening, and who knows what on Sunday. I'm looking forward to that! We had someone living with us all summer and she left last Friday. Last weekend was too busy to appreciate having the house to ourselves, so we'll be taking advantage of that more this weekend... if you get my drift

Saturday my grandpa is the grand Marshall of his little towns parade, so we are going to watch that & have lunch with him. Saturday night we are celebrating our anniversary. Sunday we are having lunch with one of my old coworkers and her husband. They are currently adopting from the same agency that my husband and I are using. Their adoption will be finalized next week, so we are meeting with them to hear tips, tricks, what to really expect (not just what the agency tells you to expect)

@nfp147 it actually ended up being almost 5 hours today. Gah! I finally excused myself to the bathroom for a minute so I could check FB & take a break, lol! Today our licensing worker collected the 60 pages of paperwork we had filled out for our home study. She had about 10 pages of questions she had to verbally ask us and then type the answers to (religious upbringing, school experiences, how did we know our parents loved us, family structure, discipline, parenting styles, questions about siblings-what they do, married? Kids? How often do we see them? Talk to them? Etc). They had to look at our cars to make sure they were clean & well kept, check all of our smoke alarms, CO detectors, check water heater temperature, measure all of the rooms in our house & draw a floor plan. I think that was about it!

It was crazy, but this was our last big visit! The next time she visits will only be 30 minutes and will have our official license stuff (more papers to sign!!) and then we will be ready for a placement!! Today we received the official "you are approved" phone call (a few hours after she left), so we could be totally done & have a baby as early as October 1st (we are thinking it will happen more around January-February).

We have a stressful weekend ahead. I have a bridal shower tomorrow, but then we are going to my ILs' for a family party. SIL, who is 7 months pg and posted an u/s today, will be there. I am anticipating booze and eye exercise in the form of eye rolling in my future. Sunday I am meeting up with college friends for lunch. I am going to tell them about our IF. DH thought they knew, so I guess it's time to come out about it.

But it really sucks all that stuff has to be evaluated in someone adopting, but fertiles just get to have the baby and take it home without so much as a single evaluation or question. Damn double standards.

I really struggled with that, before we started the adoption process. Now that we have started, we realize that we will likely get a phone call that a baby has been born and can be picked up in the next few hours (we are doing foster to adopt, placement is usually not made until 2-3hrs before hospital discharge). It sucks that we will not have any time to get ready. I find myself getting angry that other people get 9 months to prepare & we get 3 hours...We talked about setting up the room ahead of time, but we are open to ages 0-8yrs (but they know we want a newborn, we took older ages so we could get a sibling group if needed)....so we don't really know what we need to be set up for. I also don;t want the nursery to just sit there & wait. We are going to just play it by ear (the room has a twin bed & dresser in it right now) and if we have to stop at Wal-Mart/Target on the way home with the baby we just will.....

@Aimothy thank you! I am excited and terrified and constantly asking myself if this is right or if it is a response to what happened this summer...but I know in my heart it is right.
