I am in love with the idea of canning/preserving food, but all of the instructions I am finding are for marinara sauce, salsa, or jelly.  I'm beginning to be disappointed that my canning efforts will result in some sauce that we'll never use.

Except pickles.  Making my own pickles will totally be worthwhile.

And WTH is chutney?  Am I totally missing something awesome because I don't know what chutney is?  Please tell me chutney isn't just sauce to put on meat.

Chutneys are delicious. Well, all the ones I've had. They are usually a mix of fruits or veggies mixed with spices. Sometimes pickled. It's just a condiment in Indian cuisine.

I love how Schmidt pronounces it chuteney.  This was all I could think of once chutney was mentioned.  :)
That's what I thought of, too - his hair chuteney.

  • I teach high school and one of my students has a monogrammed headband that says BFL.  All I can think is "Big Fat Loser".  Horrible, but this was an insult when I was a kid that you would write on the bathroom wall.  I know, I'm a horrible person.  Of course I would never say anything to her and she is so cute and sweet.  I feel like I should warn her or something.
  • I ate a piece of cheesecake today that I didn't like because everyone around me was saying how good it was. It tasted like boxed mix with lemon and a canned cherry topping. This was from a place that gave me grilled asparagus and turkey burger just moments before.

@RiverPlate - Ha my randoms was going to be that I'm looking forward to canning with my MIL this fall/winter. We do the marinara sauce, jellies, salsa, but we also do peaches (peeled and sliced in juice), applesauce, tomatoes in chili spices for chili beans, different fruits for cobblers/pies, corn, pickles, green beans, and veggie soup.

I like having fresh things all year, especially when they are typically not in season/super expensive when I want them.
I'm a vegetarian, and really eat very little pasta.  Maybe as a side?  But I just want to save all the yummy things and eat them in the winter when veggies suck, like you said.  I was just terribly excited and ordered all of these canning cookbooks and it just seems like all they have are two thousand different ways to make condiments.

I went hiking with my kids and some of my siblings yesterday, and today my back hurts (from carrying H on my  back) and my knees are killing me.  I still have a month left before I turn 30... I feel like I shouldn't be feeling like this yet! :)

  • SRodi811 on IG and I'm jealous of how pretty she is. Actually, I'm jealous of how gorgeous all of her family is.  8->  I promise I'm not a stalker.

I also think that NBC Babies are the cutest in all the land. Perhaps parents who read just make more adorable children? Has there been a scientific study on that done yet?

  • There's this guy that lives across the street from us, who spends his evenings outside working on his car. It's an older corvette, but not a super old one. So he'll "work" on it for a little, then get in it, and rev the engine for like 5 minutes. It's SO annoying. Today he also had music playing, and it was so loud I could here it in our house when all my windows are shut, over Netflix playing. I went over and told him I was studying and asked him to turn it down. I was not studying, but I don't feel the least bit bad about it.
I hope his car blows up some day when he's revving his engine for NO apparent reason.

  • I forgot I signed up for a class through work for this week and was over an hour late to my first day (Monday) and am so glad that I am in class because my drive for work has not been that high lately. I am going to blame that I start school again next week and its been nice weather recently to my lack of motivation.

I see nothing wrong with this.  I put off cooking dinner for a half hour because of responding to text messages.

You are too sweet!  I look a lot like my mom, so I have her to thank for the good genes!  And I would never have taken your comment as "stalkerish".. :)
