Hi all,
I'm back again with another question for you awesome ladies,
inspired by the fact that this is the first day of fall classes for
students at the community college I work at.
What are some of
your favorite college memories? What events/services/people on your
campus really made your experience memorable and successful?

There are definetly some days I miss being in college. Living 20 mins from my college town doesn't help much either lol. I met DH in college and spent three years hanging out with him at his fraternity and they are still some of our closests friends. Foam parties, Sex on the Beach parties with sand in their party room, just hanging out with a great group of guys in general, going out after parties to a mexican place that was BYOB and getting nominated on my campus to be part of a leadership program because my boss realized what a hard worker I was and how I good I was at what I did for them. It's always nice to be recognized when you least expect it.
I remember senior year I had a root canal and I went back to DH's room after because it was walking distance to the dentist and since DH was at class a couple of his brothers stopped by his room to check on me & see if I needed anything. Random but it also made me realize what kind of people he hung out with.
I also loved giving campus tours in the spring & fall. As a thank you gift, before graduation, admissions sent me a resume portfolio. I still use it when I go on interviews.
I LOVED COLLEGE! I had so much fun in college but that had more to do with my friends, college classes, campus, and school location than anything else.

I don't even remember what exactly it was for, but at one point there were bumper boats in the school pool for an event. They were so, so fun.
There was also a local dairy that made the best ice cream. We'd do ice cream runs regularly and my freezer was always packed with pints of ice cream. I miss that!

Awesome! How is the job so far?

I was a commuter, so I'm sure my experience was vastly different from most typical college students. I worked in the Music Dept's office, and the main desk in the Student Center for a large chunk of my time there, so I was always involved in some activity. My boss in the Student Center put me on the committee to plan events in the Center, so we came up with some fun events, and I got to goof off a lot on the job.
My best friend at school was an insomnia who loved Boone's Farm, so I had a lot of late nights with her and her roommates committing all sorts of silliness. We were also both electronic media majors, so we worked in the video booth for all the home basketball games, and spend lots of late hours in the editing booth in the tv studio finishing projects. I had a lot of fun in college, and kinda wish I could go back to those carefree days sometimes.

"People talk about escapism as if it's a bad thing... Once you've escaped, once you come back, the world is not the same as when you left it. You come back to it with skills, weapons, knowledge you didn't have before. Then you are better equipped to deal with your current reality."

@SaphireCounselor I work as an adviser at a university! This is the first time I've seen someone on the boards with that background!
my read shelf:
I went to an urban college, and I have to say that it was one of my favorite things about my college. I had some wonderful intership and work-study opportunities, especially at science-focused museums and some environmental organizations.
The downside is that I'll probably be paying for it until I retire...
I didn't join a social sorority, but I had good friends in Chi Omega that I hung out with a lot. I went to a few frat parties but they weren't really my scene. I lived on campus all but my junior year. I really enjoyed being close to everything and being able to walk everywhere I wanted to go. My college only had about 5000 people.
My grad program was great, too, but I didn't much hang out with my cohorts. It was a night program that catered to second career/working people, so that was a different experience all together, although I really enjoyed the people with whom I had classes.
Awesome! Advisor high five! My job is alright...a great place to start but certainly not a position I am going to sink 10 years into. I don't work as directly with students as I would like, but do enjoy coordinating our peer mentor program. I live advising.
