NBR - Travel

For those of you who've done some traveling in the U. S., which state that you've visited (not the one you live in) has been your favorite? What makes it special?
I write sexy books. I read all the books. I love dresses & macarons.

  • Cali. I also lived there for seven years so I'm biased. You can find ANYTHING within a two hour driving radius of LA...mountains, beaches, deserts, etc. You also can't beat the weather there.

I pretty much love the entire New England states area (namely Maine, Vermont and certain parts of Mass & Conn.) and I would say NH but I live here).  Mountains, lakes, ocean all within driving distance of each other.  I love the change of seasons.  There is also a ton of history  and tradition in New England.  And the food is damn good too.  Nothing beats a Maine lobster or Vermont maple syrup.

  • I have lived in Indiana, Montana, and Connecticut.  I have visited (not just driven/flown through) California, Nevada, Utah, Maine, Massachusetts, Florida, Hawaii, North Carolina, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, Colorado, New York and NYC.

Colorado has been my favorite state to visit.  I love the Rockies and would love to live near mountains again.  The people are friendly and there is always something to check out.  I like how the cities are ten-twenty minutes away from wilderness.  Also, no grizzlies (at least not yet).

  • Hawaii... because, well, it's Hawaii!  ;)
  • This is such a hard question for me.  I love different aspects of each place I visit.  Even when inclement weather threatens to ruin a trip (i.e., it rained every.single.day in Boston AND I missed a Red Sox game), I still have lots of positive memories of the trip.

  • I loved Washington State. I love the vibe up there, the weather, the scenery, all the great food. DH's company is based in Seattle, and I would love to move there, but the COL is pretty high, so he'd have to get a serious raise for us to be able to do that.

  • I think California for diversity.
New England always feels homey to me. Like a breath of fresh air.

  • I really love New England, too.  Of course I'm biased because I live here, but I really love how we have four distinct seasons, and how there is so much so close by.

Outside of New England and the northeast in general, it's hard to pick a state, because mostly I've only been to one part of any given state, you know?  I don't feel like I have a very good handle on what other states are like.
  • Obviously, the South is my favorite, but I also loved the West.  My favorite vacation ever was Yellowstone/the Black Hills in South Dakota.

  • I live in CO, but I visited a lot before I moved here. I honestly can't think of many places I'd want to go outside of here =\ Perhaps somewhere in New England.

My coworker just went to San Francisco and it made me want to visit sometime. They did the Walt Disney museum, Alcatraz, and all these other places that sounded super duper fun.
  • Washington. I haven't found anything I don't love.

  • I love Chicago so my vote goes to Illinois. Granted, I haven't seen the rest of the state but we visit Chicago once a year and find something new to love every single time.

    image
  • Alaska is my favorite state to visit even though I've only seen a small portion of it.  I'm going to visit the New England area next month so things might change.  :-)
  • As far as cities go, I absolutely adore San Francisco/Napa, Chicago and Charleston.  I haven't made it to New England (at least not yet), but I feel like I would really love it up there also.

I guess my favorite state to visit would be California.  I don't necessarily want to live there, but I always love the time I get to spend out there.  I never thought I would enjoy it as much as I do, but I was definitely wrong.  A couple of years ago I had to go about an hour north of LA for work and over the weekend I was able to drive down the Pacific Coast Highway and stop in at wonderful little gems of places on the way.  I only spent a little time in Santa Monica, but I actually really liked it too.  I got to San Diego for work semi-regularly and I always find something fun to do and great food to eat.  Like I said earlier though, San Francisco is my favorite though, I can't wait to go back.  I have only been to Napa and I loved it, but I want to do Sonoma as well

  • NYC/ Long Island but I'm obviously biased. Other than that I love San Francisco, Boston, Spokane, Carmel by the sea, a few small towns in ct, upstate ny, a few near Amherst ma where I went to college, Mesa, lake coeur d'alene...... I'm not a fan of la or a lot of places in fl and I haven't explored all of most states so its hard to say which state is my fave. Easier with cities.

  • I haven't done a lot of traveling in the US. However I did go on a few business trips for my last job to Missouri. I wasn't a big fan of Springfield, but loved loved loved Branson.
  • I'd love t ospend more time in New England, so for now I'll say Illinois for Chicago. I love the city and we always have a wonderful time there. DH and I just decided that we want to do a weekend there every year.

  • Hawaii, because I love volcanoes.

I got to poke molten lava with a stick! There are hardly any places
on Earth where you can do that! And it's so primordial to see new land being created. This also appeals to the cartophile in me, because I look at it and think, "That land over there doesn't exist on any map yet."

Hmm that's tough. I live in Colorado and have lived in California, Florida, Illinois and Washington (state).  I have visited: Oregon, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, Idaho, Hawaii, Wyoming, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas and driven through much more. I love Colorado I actually grew up here and moved away then came back because its beautiful and the mountains are amazing.

For outdoor things and desert beauty: Arizona and Utah
For beaches: Hawaii, Washington and Florida (Washington is beautiful and the western coast is just gorgeous esp La Push, LOVE that area).
Seafood: West coast- California, Oregon and Washington

  • I love in TX now, but I will forever be hands Down a New England and NYC girl, forever, there's nothing better than NYC where you can find anything your heart desire, love love that place. Boston Will always always be a special place in our heart for many different reason,  New england is just stunning period. ;(, I am now home sick .

I like FL, but only because we are addicted to Disney, lol, and TX is not bad at all, but I am biased because we live here, and have been here for 8 years now.

I am secretly planning 2 trips to Boston, hopefully we will get to go the week before thanksgiving, and will do a day trip to vermont, to take my kiddos apple picking ;), and would also like to go at the end of June and head to good old Cape cod,.Martha's Vineyard for a few days, so excited!!!.
  • We live in the midwest, so I have always enjoyed going down to the Gulf Coast of Florida. We love spending all day on the beach, playing in the waves, playing in the pool. Just soaking up the sunshine and warmth. The local eateries usually serve a fresh fish catch, which I really enjoy. The ocean leaves that certain salty smell in the air that just means 'good times' to me. Other vacation spots have their appeal, but Florida always draws me in.

  • By the time I was 15, I'd been to 38 of the 50 states, and I liked them all, but I've got to give a shout out to my home state because...

  • I haven't done a lot of traveling, but my favorite state is North Carolina. We've gone to a small beach town many times for vacation, and I love the laid back vibe.

  • Before I lived here, DC was my favorite place to visit.  I lived in the city for 5 years then moved out to the burbs.  Now that I no longer live in IL, Chicago is my favorite city to visit.  Before we had kids, I would go to NYC with either MH or friends a half-dozen times a year.  SO much fun.

The very best vacation ever I think was in St. Thomas, USVI.  I wish we could go there every year.

My favorite yearly place now that I'm old and cranky and have littles that need constant supervision is Carolina Beach/Kure Beach, NC.  It's a strip of mostly rental houses and condos, and the beach doesn't get crowded.  It's too far south to be considered the Outer Banks, and not trendy at all.  It has a small boardwalk, shows outdoor movies, weekly fireworks, and has a teeny carnival with creaky kiddie rides.  It's maybe 30 minutes from Wilmington for rainy day activities, putt putt, and places to eat, and about an hour from Myrtle for a nice day trip.
