  • Technically nothing. Last night I finished An Abundance of Katherines by John Green. I enjoyed it. It was # 20 of my goal of 25.

Tonight I plan to start Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

Days of Blood and Starlight. I'm not loving it as much as book 1, but it's still good. #16 for the year.

  • I began MaddAdam by Margaret Atwood but it's not pulling me in at all.

Still reading The Moonstone too but I may need to take a break from it and read something else to get me back to reading. This week has been sort of shameful, reading-wise.

I'm going to a conference in Chattanooga next weekend and David (I forget his last name...) will be there and this book has been on my TBR for the longest time so I wanted to read it before I heard him speak.

I feel like this is one that I'll be pulling out all through the boys' lives.

  • Wicked Appetite by Janet Evanovich. It's ok, but I really enjoy the humor throughout.

  • I am reading First Class: The Legacy of Dunbar, America's First Black Public High School, as well as Food: The Good Girl's Drug. They are 89 and 90 for the year.

I don't read a lot of non-self-help nonfiction, but I am interested in the history of education in our country, and when First Class showed up on the library's website, I decided to check it out. And it's really good so far...it's an interesting look at the whole issue surrounding segregation and the disparity among the races. The book traces Dunbar from its beginnings through its time as an elite school and then to its decline. I am only about a quarter of the way through it, but I am enjoying it.

And Food: The Good Girl's Drug...it's like the author crawled into my head and stole all my thoughts. Parts of it hit uncomfortably close to home, but in a good way,

  • I'm reading Shatter Me byTahereh Mafi. I'm about 30% finished and I'm still not sure about it. I don't love the authors writing style, and so far the characters aren't as developed as I'd hoped they would be, but I will keep going. This is #61 for the year.

  • I can actually participate in this post for the first time in forever! I finished two books this week which is the equivalent of seeing a unicorn for me lately!

Right now I'm listening to Beautiful Ruins by Jess Walter. I have plans to read one of my many owned TBR books this weekend, but I haven't decided which one yet. Either way, I'm reading again! Yay!

I had a really tough time with that one.  The premise was reasonable, but the style and repetition left me wanting to gouge out my ears since I listened to it.

  • Swan Song by Robert McCammon - I like it but I feel like it is a total rip-off of The Stand.

On Hallowed Ground: The Story of Arlington National Cemetery by Robert M. Poole - very interesting and well written so far.

Books 56 and 57 for the year.

  • Blame by Michelle Huneven. I heard about it one sunday on TV so I have been waiting to read it for a while. I like it so far but I do dislike it when authors have people talking and then don't use quotation marks.
Whether or not you find your own way, you're bound to find some way. If you happen to find my way, please return it, as it was lost years ago. I imagine by now it's quite rusty.”

I'm glad to hear I'm not alone. It's due back at the library tomorrow and I will not renew it, so I guess I have a lot of reading to do today and tomorrow before 5.

I'm listening to Mind Games by Carolyn Crane. I'm not really sure what is goin on, so hopefully it won't stay like this.

  • I am still listening to The Wise Man's Fear, but I have under 4 hours left, which means I should be finished by Tuesday, which is when the sequel to The Raven Boys comes out.  I just started reading Enchanted, which looks like it will be a quick YA read.  (141-142)
