Wacky Wednesday Poll

Re: Wacky Wednesday Poll

  • 1) Have you ever won a trophy or an award? What was it for?  My parents had me in everything.  Pageants, swimming, and piano plus all kinds of 4H stuff.  And I always had baked goods in the state fair - I had a couple Best in Shows.  The biggest was that I was a National Merit Scholar.

    2) What was your first job? Other than babysitting, I was a dress runner at David's Bridal.  And it was HELL.

    3) What can you hear right this moment?  Silence.  My students are all studying quietly, which is nice, but also means I can't listen to my podcast while I process books.

  • 1) Have you ever won a trophy or an award? What was it for?   I won a bajillion of them in high school but nothing sporty. I've won a few at work too -- things like best positive mental attitude and a couple others.
    2) What was your first job? Dishwasher in a restaurant where my cousin was the head chef.

    3) What can you hear right this moment? Coworkers talking.

    2) What was your first job?
Selling tickets to athletic events at the university where my mom worked.

    3) What can you hear right this moment?
The teachers in the classrooms near mine talking to each other. No one ever talks to me because I'm an anti-social hermit.

    Love Christmas story!

Also, It's so funny to me when you mention being a hermit or anti-social. You seem SO social on the internets. I know the internet and real life are totally different, though. FWIW, I'm an anti-social hermit, too. I bet this board could populate a whole colony of hermits that don't really socialize, but have little hermity dwellings in near proximity to each other.

  • 1) Have you ever won a trophy or an award? Yes.  What was it for?  Spelling bee championships (yes, multiple).  Our grad school group also won the Student Project Award from the National Council on Public History for our Rich's Department Store history exhibit.  I also got the Rusty Spike Award (internal at our museum) for the most creative way to miss a staff meeting when I had to be rushed to the hospital last march for abdominal pain.

    2) What was your first job? Babysitting, but my first real job was Burger King.

    3) What can you hear right this moment?  Jeopardy! and the space heater.  Frickin' heat pump.

  • In gr school I won a reading. Most books read in a month in the school. Shocker I know. I also have gotten employee of the month and numerous best costume awards.

Babysitting. As a teen it was receptionist for my mom. As an adult out of school it was at Bass Pro.

Mh working in the basement, the tv and a crackling fire.
  • 1) Have you ever won a trophy or an award? What was it for?  In high school I won a bunch of awards for acting and acting tournaments, I won a few scholarships for choir and music related activities. AND I once won a karaoke contest... yup!

    2) What was your first job? I was a banquet server in high school on the weekends, I loved weddings so the job wasn't that bad. The chefs always made extra food too and gave the extras to the staff.

    3) What can you hear right this moment? A movie, i'm not really sure what movie because I'm reading and spending too much time on Pinterest. It has Kevin Bacon in it?
  • 1) Have you ever won a trophy or an award? What was it for?  I won the English Department Distinguished Scholar award in college.  I was never into sports, so nothing else.

    2) What was your first job? Page (put away books) in the public library when I was 15.

    3) What can you hear right this moment? White noise on the baby monitor and DH is watching some show on TV.

I am WAY more social on the internet than I am IRL. I always feel like I disappoint online friends when I meet them in person because I can be so different.

I think we'd be all right with it because most of us are the same way too.  We could just sit next to each other and read and it would be all right because we're spending time with each other.  But we wouldn't have the forced pressure of having conversations because we're reading.  And probably Tweeting to each other too.  lol

I've thought about this a bit.
