  • My goals for Ava Nichol are to try to be partially potty trained and only using her binky at night by 2 1/2 and if either of those things haven't happened by then to take a more aggressive approach to have them both accomplished by 3.

Does this sound reasonable to you guys?

I think that sounds totally reasonable! Do you have a potty chair in the bathroom so she gets used to it? We've had one for about 5 months now and M has peed in her potty a few times. I always ask her if she wants to sit on it before and after bath and sometimes she says "yes" and sometimes "no". I haven't pushed the issue yet.

I hate the thought of weaning from the binky! I'm afraid M will have a sleep regression when we take those away.

  • I need to know if anyone has had an orgasmic birth?

A friend of mine sent me a link to a video she said I HAD to watch because it was so beautiful and inspirational and it was of an orgasmic birth. I haven't actually had time to watch it yet, but now i'm really curious.

DH said he was listening to the radio one morning and the morning show had a whole discussion on it

Nope! Although I had an epidural so I was still pretty numb when M was born. I could feel pressure and the need to push but I wasn't really in pain.

I wish!  Mine was pretty much the opposite of orgasmic.

We never used a pacifier because our kids wouldn't take them so I have no advice on that, but your potty training goal seems reasonable. I learned though that its much easier if they are showing interest or signs of readiness the hard way.

Just before Delilah was 2, we tried potty training and she was not having it. It ended in all of us very frustrated and we thought we scarred her for life. Anyways a few months later (she was 27 mo) she just started going occasionally at school and one day asked to go on the potty while out at a restaurant. So that weekend we decided to take advantage of her interest and used the three day potty training method and it worked so easily. We haven't looked back. But like I said the first attempt was horrible and had we continued or forced it we would've spent a lot more time and effort training her than ended up being necessary.

  • @wiggyslilsis, I can't speak from personal experience, but my sister has done both of these with her DD, who is now just over 2 years.

When it came to the paci, she cut back on allowing it only during naps and nighttime. I know my niece would still ask for it sometimes, especially just after waking up from a nap or in the morning when they first took it out of her mouth, but she eventually got used to it and stopped worrying about having it.

They also just potty trained her; she wasn't even 2 by the time she was totally potty trained! I have no idea exactly how they went about doing it, other than making sitting on her potty this hugely exciting thing (typically during diaper changes), with a little nonsense song and dance to go with it. I know that my niece was very interested and would get excited about it, so I'd say if Ava Nichol shows the same enthusiasm, you'll be well on your way with her.

  • Thanks guys!

She sits on the potty and asks to go but she hasn't peed on the potty yet. She will go as soon as I put her diaper back on sometimes so I don't know but we are still encouraging her and hoping it leads somewhere.

The binky is another thing. I am also terrifiedof sleep regression if we take it away at night so i am almost willing to just let her have it at night until she is ready to give it up. She has a fit if she doesn't have one in the car :( she can go all day without one but won't calm down if she gets hurt or scared without one.

We are easing her off it though. Like she lost it in the car and rather than pulling over and finding it for her we just kept going until we got home and got it for her. I also won't find one for her. If she wants it I tell her to find it and often times she forgets that she was looking for it before she finds one.

  • Am I the only one that fell apart 3 1/2 months postpartum?

AF started and ever since then my IBS has flared up (worse than pre-pregnancy), I went from lactose sensitive to possibly intolerant, my IC is flaring up again, and my back, hips, and thighs are constantly throbbing. I was really hoping that while I was BF, none of this would come back. :(

Now I feel myself wanting to get pregnant solely to make it go away again (maybe that's my FFFC)...

I have another one, how early did your LO sit up unassisted?

A is close. She can sit up for brief periods, but then falls over. Seems early to me, but maybe not.

ETA I don't let her fall, I'm right there with my hands ready to grab her.

  • Mine might be silly, so bear with me. I had my 12 week appt today and the doctor had trouble keeping the heartbeat with the doppler. I was just wondering if it's normal. He said sometimes it's hard at 12/13 weeks. He did a quick ultrasound afterwards and the little heart was beating away, so eeverything is fine. He also didn't measure it. Is the bpm important? My next is with a different doctor in the practice so I'll have something to compare. Sorry that ended up to be longer and more questions than anticipated. Thanks ladies.

For mommies with more than one, when did you start TTC#2/ how far apart in age are LOs, and what do you like/dislike about it? Do you think it's easier when they're closer in age or further apart?

M was sitting alone at 5.5 months.

My OB wasn't able to find M's heartbeat on doppler until 13.5 weeks. It just depends on the position of the baby and placenta.

Totally normal. Your baby has lots of space to swim around and that makes it tricky to find and keep the heartbeat consistently on the Doppler. My almost 38 week old fetus even managed to get away from the Doppler last week.
BPM isn't super important, but it gives the an idea of how baby's doing. There is a normal range that they look for.

Ours will be 22 months apart. We started TTC when AF came back at 11 months PP. Got PG when Cora was about 13.5 months old.

We wanted them pretty close, but still wanted Cora to be independent enough to do her own thing while I tend to a NB. My brother and I are 3 years apart, and I just felt like that was too much space.

Totally normal. Like PP said, there is a lot of space for LO to swim around, so there is no predicting which way they will turn. Also, it depends on what dr I see if we get the bpm. You can always ask them what it is. If they are concerned that it is too fast or too slow, they will know if they should do an u/s or whatnot.

I wasn't too worried about it with Lucy. I ended up thinking l&d was no big deal. Now I'm a little scared that I'll end up with the opposite experience with this one since I kid if deserve it. Baby 1 was too easy.

I was never scared about the delivery. I was more afraid of the iv than anything else. My contractions were Pitocin induced and I had her 2 hours later without an epidural.

I felt this way until about halfway through labor when things went bad.  We were actually really looking forward to labor and delivery and were excited when labor started.  I hope your labor is nice and easy so you can enjoy it!

I was never afraid of labor/delivery, even during the experience, and it went just fine, even with an induction. I don't think you're delusional. There's no need to stress over something you have no real control over.
