We booked our summer vacation yesterday -- please tell me that going to Williamsburg for 4 days with 3 kids, including a 3 month old, is a fantastic idea.
Then I did what any other normal person would do: I took a picture of it and sent it to my H.

My new bff Gayle Forman!

"People talk about escapism as if it's a bad thing... Once you've escaped, once you come back, the world is not the same as when you left it. You come back to it with skills, weapons, knowledge you didn't have before. Then you are better equipped to deal with your current reality."

So apparently it's a good thing I am still working because I was able to figure out how to get our printer to work when our IT guy couldn't. Since January our two tray printer has been sitting on the ground so you can imagine how much fun that has been for me when we need to change paper. So we just got 3 new printer trays and the IT guy added them to our printer. We were talking with him trying to figure out how the printer was going to know what type paper we needed when. He kind of talked in circles and told us the way the printer worked it may not sense the new trays right away, told us we had to fix the paper guides which wouldn't work since all the paper we use is the same size but some of it is on letterhead or bond paper. So basically he was rendering it useless to us, until he played around on the system and said he'd get back to us in a day or two. My coworker basically yells at him until he leaves and then she storms off to complain to our boss. I went through the printer menu, since it has a computer brain now, figured out how to label the trays the way we need them to work and walah! the printer is set up the way we need it to and works perfectly.
So...go me.

Particularly they mentioned that they're glad we don't have to annotate the entire novel as we read. We just finished Code Name Verity, and while I gave them discussion questions for each section and we had good, in-depth talks about it, we didn't analyze it to death. I guess the other honors teacher does this with his class and the book they are reading, and a lot of my kids' friends have said "I would probably enjoy this book if we didn't have to do so much analysis/annotation." I certainly see value in annotation/analysis, and we do it on a smaller scale. But my #1 goal in all my classes is to make sure my students ENJOY reading/writing and I think doing that stuff through and entire book makes kids hate it.
So, anyway, it was nice to get some validation from the kids because I've really been doubting myself.
