October Horror Read

duxcaelo · September 2014

I think this was mentioned a few weeks ago, @hoycie maybe, but I don't think the annual October horror read was decided. I think so far they have all been SK, but it sounds like we are open to other authors, so please list suggestions if you are interested, and I can make a poll. When should we discuss? Halloween is on a Friday this year.

My suggestion is House of Leaves by Mark Danielewski.

I've wanted to read that for a long time and just requested it from the library, so I'd be up for it!

myJunegirls · September 2014

I'll read anything. I just love to read scary books at this time of year.

I have no recommendations though. I need a good read!

84Lauren · September 2014

That works for me! I don't have any other suggestions as I pretty much read a non-SK horror book for this read-along each year and that's it

booknerd226 · September 2014

I don't have any suggestions either but I'd love to participate.

I'm the biggest wimp in the world but this one does look really interesting! I'd be up for it

Anne Rice's new vampire book Prince Lestat comes out in October, but not until the 28th. Perhaps a IWTV read, or even TVL?

Hoycie · September 2014

I'm in for a scary book

I am up for something scary as well!

Hoycie · October 2014

So, it's Oct 1st. What's it going to be?

duxcaelo · October 2014

Let's read House of Leaves, since most people seem to be okay with it. It is also on that list @hoycie; which I think is a great find. @sassypants527 also mentioned the upcoming Anne Rice book, if anyone else was interested in doing a read/re-read of the Vampire Chronicles.

I like the rec above. Sounds good!

What about The Little Stranger?

booknerd226 · October 2014

Sounds good! ::off to Amazon::

I've been too chicken to read House of Leaves for a long time. Maybe I'll do it finally! For those interested, you may wanted to check out Poe's album Haunted. She wrote it kind of as a companion to the book. They are brother/sister. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haunted_(Poe_album)

I just ordered House of Leaves from the library! I think I am going to try to read The Little Stranger this month too.

catrb89 · October 2014

This is so funny since my husband has challenged me to read this one a few days ago (just after I challenged him to read Brain on Fire). I will join you ladies!

SnShne322 · October 2014

BTW, I picked this up from the library and woah, it's going to be a really interesting read.

sonore32 · October 2014

Mine is coming in the mail today...I'm super excited but also scared already!

SMW91183 · October 2014

I just started House of Leaves yesterday, and so far I am really enjoying it. At first I thought the library had made a mistake, because the book so resembled a textbook. It seems like it is going to a very interesting (and unconventional!) read!
