Trying to bring some life to this board...here's a GTKY

I mentioned this in a post about what to do now that GTKYs are done. I hate that this board is so slow so I'm going to ask my questions.

What is the weirdest or most exotic food you have ever eaten? Where were you when you ate it? What did it taste like? Would you eat it again?

  • Lol...well it's never to late to start @madeline10L‌.

  • I'm not adventurous when it comes to food.  I think alligator is the weirdest thing I've eaten, and that isn't super weird.

  • I come from a horribly picky family of meat and potatoes. Keep all green things away. Haha. I didn't even really adventure when we went to Jamaica. I need to start being more of a dare devil but my gag reflex is horrible.
  • I had octopus on our honeymoon. Cavier at my grandparents for New Years one year. I can't think of anything else right now.

  • Oh gosh I am sooooo boring!!! Fried Pickles was pretty "crazy" in my eyes. We had them in Florida with my Aunt and they were actually pretty good.

  • I'm willing to try pretty much anything when it comes to food.  The last "adventurous" things I tried was turtle soup in NOLA (though I don't consider this super adventurous, just "exotic" for a Canadian).  It was delicious.  The turtle tasted a bit like "gamey" chicken.

DH and I love beef carpaccio and beef tartare, which again don't strike me as overly adventurous, but a lot of people are turned off by "raw" beef.

I would love to go to China to try some of the crazy street food.  Some day!

  • If it's not a bug, odds are that I'll try it. Though, I haven't really had the opportunity to try much adventurous. I've had octopus (a lot), alligator, gooey duck, cow hoof. I'm sure there is more. And there is definitely more I'd try.

Oh as long as it's dead. I'll eat raw calms and stuff, you cut them open and they're dead. But none of those creepy things some people eat it the world that are actually alive when you eat them. Just no.

  • I'm pretty much with you IM. I won't eat bugs or brains, but I'm good with almost anything else. DH and I eat a lot of deer and elk meat. I don't consider that weird or exotic, but I know people would. I had wild pig burritos last night. Two weeks ago I had a pig stomach taco that was fabulous! I love fried alligator tail. I eat lots of sushi (fish, scallops, shrimp, squid, octopus, beef tongue, etc...). I like dove, quail, duck, and goose meat.

Next I want to try rabbit and turtle. We have rabbit meat in the freezer, but we will have to find turtle meat somewhere!

I LOOOVVVEE duck.  It's my favourite.

I've always been underwhelmed by rabbit.  Meh.  I'll be interested to hear what you think when you try it.

  • In glad I had finished eating before I came back to catch up on this thread. Wow I'm so not adventurous.

@islandmonkey8‌ - I'm afraid to ask if 'gooey duck' was an autocorrect. Anything gooey doesn't sound like a good idea to me. Haha.

  • I love duck! I'm willing to try anything, for the most part. I probably won't ever eat a weird looking bug.

I love Haggis which is probably weird. I tried it first when I was in Scotland.
  • I'm vegetarian, so this thread is grossing me out! Lol... I've had star fruit and tried poi (yuck). Super adventurous. ;)

  • Kangaroo. It was the special at a restaurant my parents brought us to after we were engaged. It was a slow night, so our waitress heard us joking around about it quite a bit. She brought out a piece for us to split/try when she brought out the dessert menus. It was...interesting. Kind of like venison.

  • I'm super late to this party, been really busy this week. But I love the livening-up! :)

The ones I can think of that haven't been mentioned yet are escargot and reindeer jerky. The jerky was pretty good, escargot was... an experience.

I've also had fried alligator, rabbit (gamey, and it was prepared too spicy for me so I didn't eat much), steak tartare, venison, poi (I loved it as a kid), octopus (salty rubber, ew), raw oysters, and caviar.

Yes you are.  I wouldn't say it tastes delicious, I bet it is an acquired taste.  The smell is appalling.
