Black Friday deals

I thought this could be kind of fun.
What are you shopping for this year/or what did you get?
Best deal we should try to check out to see if it's still available.

Re: Black Friday deals

  • I started shopping this morning. We needed a new computer and some of the staples deals were live already so I picked up the cheap laptop I wanted.

Herbergers has also gone live and so we got our sheets set for the year, and dh has lost weight so we got him 3 new dress pants for $30. (There are insane clothing deals online right now. Buy 1 get 2, plus an extra coupon code for 25% off on top of that! And free shipping).

The only other thing I want is towels from kohls. I'm hoping I can get those tomorrow morning. Then I don't even have to go into the stores for Black Friday :)

I love that a lot of the deals are available online early!  I am shopping for clothes for my niece for Christmas.  Also a few boring things for H and I, like socks and undies.

I added a bunch of stuff to my Kohls cart and saved it so it's ready to check out tomorrow :D

I'm also on the lookout for some new towels, flannel sheets, and possibly some Christmas décor, but I am undecided on those things.

ETA:  I've never shopped at Herbergers, but since you mentioned the great deals, I'm going there now!

  • We haven't purchased anything yet, but the plan is to probably buy a new TV. Our old TV crapped out on us about a month ago, so DH is anxiously waiting to get a new one.

Other than that, we don't really need anything. I may buy a toaster oven for like $15 to take to the office so I can heat things up (and not in the microwave).

  • I'm only buying for my nephews and niece so I will get it all done this week.

I noticed today that aerie has a lot of things for 40% off so I will check that out for my niece.

Kohl's gave me some coupons so I will look for my nephew there and I might get myself new tennis shoes.  Kohl's always seems to have a good tennis shoe deal on BF.

  • I don't care for black friday shopping but there are a couple clothing stores I like to shop at that usually have 40% off your purchase until 1pm.  I will hit that up about 10:30am lol - I'm in no way an early riser.  Old navy already had their black friday preview sale yesterday.  I still have no ones xmas lists yet so I don't shop until I have them. ugh - DH could have easily wrote up his list today because he was home all day yet he still hasn't and his bday is coming up in 2 weeks.

I heard kohl's will give out free star wars tickets to a certain amount of people in line on Thursday night.

  • Like @vlagrl29 I'm going to do some mid morning shopping for clothes for H and myself. In fairness, we both really need a few new nicer pieces. It's easy to get shlubby working in environmental science. I'll also hit Target for some toys to donate.
  • We're probably going to hit Brooks Bros.  They have 4 shirts for $200, and that's a really good price for their shirts.  H wears them 5 days a week, so this is the time of year we restock and he goes through what has gotten worn/yellowed.

Other than that, I might pick up a couple new towels at PB for the guest room, and we still need to buy toys for our angel kids.  It won't be a huge production for us this year though.

  • Our joint gift to eachother is an IPad, I am thinking of trying to purchase on Wednesday at Target ( I want that gift card!) Other than that, I need a small crcokpot (walmart forl ike 9 dollars) and will probably get some work clothes, but wont be going out till later for that.. We dont need much and most of our Shopping is done. Just a couple of nieces/nephews to get for still.
  • Well we don't plan on shopping on Friday, but we went to the furniture store this weekend and bought furniture for the man cave (a sectional and storage ottoman) and got some good discounts.

We also knew BJ's was having a TV sale so we went in to peek and walked out with a TV for the mancave as well.

  • I'm reallly trying to resist buying a new dishwasher at the lowes appliance sale going on right now. Its originally 600 on sale for 379 with free shipping. i'm trying to remind myself i'm poor and in debt but its not working. i have to wash all the baby stuff by hand and most of our dishes because our dishwasher is a piece of junk and i'm pretty sure the ants live in the dishwasher.

  • I got all of DH's gifts on Saturday, the girls are all set, and we usually buy everything else online. I've never done the Black Friday thing- the day after Thanksgiving is usually for getting all of the Christmas decorations out and the tree up.

  • I may attempt some shopping on Friday afternoon, I got some good deals at JC Penney last year on some work clothing, which I'm in desperate need of again this year. I've learned I can't buy clothes online unless I know the very specific item will fit and/or they have easy return policies.
  • I'm thinking about buying a new TV for our bed room as our "house" present this year. Our TV now makes a super annoying humming noise and we have to turn the volume up to at least 10 to drown it out. Also might bite the bullet and buy a comforter set I've been eyeing up for a few months. Other than that I'll probably pick up some Christmas gifts for military children for a toy drive my work does.

  • JCPenny's - Everything will be ordered online to avoid the crowds & shipped to store to avoid shipping charges

Belgian Waffle Maker ($19.99 but has a $10.00 mail in rebate)

Rechargeable Power Wine Bottle opener ($19.99 but has a $10.00 mail in rebate) - Got this for my nephew (he's 24) two Christmas's ago, his ex stole it when she moved out. That was the one thing he was bummed about loosing.

Towels - Great deals on towels

    Sears

New vacuum cleaner, we love the one we have and works great but we know it's not going to last forever so getting one to put away. Normally $200.00, will get for $99.00. Again will go online & order & pick up in store later in the day to avoid crowds

Have to go through the ads again and make a list to make sure we don't miss anything.

  • Earlier today, I took advantage of a JC Penney sale with 20% off my entire purchase.  Worked for clearance also.  I got a new pair of jeans I have desperately needed plus three comfy...but great for work...sweaters.  With my discount, they were less than $12 each.

Some of the items I have my eye on for BF are a new digital camera and appliances.  I'm torn on the appliances.  I need a suite of appliances for one of the units on my new rental property and I'd like to upgrade the fridge on another one.

I know there are awesome BF appliance deals, but do I really want to spend money on "new" when "used" is still so much cheaper?  And the old fridge works just fine, it's just a little banged up looking.  Decisions, decisions.

  • Not sure about Black Friday plans yet. I'll be looking to update/add to my work wardrobe. JC Penny has some great deals plus we got bonus coupons. H will likely be looking at Kohl's. He's tall so he typically shops online for dress shirts, etc. I'd like to get a new point and shoot camera; current one is getting old. We'll be scoping out some items for the kids.

  • Now that it's over, how did everybody do?  I ordered from Kohls last Monday because their sales started that day.  I spent $110 and got several shirts, a Christmas dress, some gloves, hat, scarf, and pajamas all for my niece; a cardigan for my sister; a pair of holiday socks for me and a set of flannel sheets for H and I.  On Black Friday, I went shopping with MIL and got a holiday dress and bra from Macy's to wear to several holiday parties, and a handful of stocking stuffer items from World Market.

I realllly wanted to buy new towels because there were some killer deals, but I would have used my entire Christmas shopping budget and wouldn't have anything left to spend on gifts for anybody else.

Today, I got on Kohls and used my $30 Kohl's cash that I earned from the first order to purchase socks for H and myself and a set of new bath rugs.  I also ordered about a dozen books on Amazon because they have a really good deal today on Kindle books.

Total spent on Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals:$366.69

Best deal: The flannel sheets from Kohls were on sale for $24.99 for a queen size set, and then the additional % off for Black Friday!

    .

  • Nice deals, @dragonstarjk!

I spent quite a bit, but almost all on things we needed. My big stop was spending $250 at the Gap for both H and I. Neither of us has really bought business casual-level clothes in a couple of years (casual workplaces) and I truly consider it all practical and needed. We've been getting sclubby. Everything was 60% off before 10 am. I also got a pair of upscale winter boots at $20, marked down from $60, and a pair of outdoorsy winter boots at $104, marked down from $138. Those boots were the splurge; I can't really justify them except to say they will be heavily used, I thought about getting them over a month before the purchase, and I love them:-)

Most of our family has decided on very minimal Christmases, and I still haven't decided what to get my inlaws, so I didn't end up getting any gifts. I'll probably check local craft fairs the next couple of weekends to finish that up.
  • Didn't do a ton on Black Friday.  We ordered 4 shirts for H from Brooks Bros. for $50 each.  That's the best price of the year for their shirts, so we stocked up.  Virtually every male attorney we know wears them.

We also got a couple poinsettas at HD for $1 each (which I think is one of the best deals every year), and we randomly got a travel pillow for $6 there because I lost my last one in Paris.

Today I blew up our Amazon account because there were a bunch of cyber Monday deals that were great for our needs.  I got some Christmas shopping done and was able to use a 30% off promo code on a piano book for somebody on our list.

Then I found the packing cubes I had been eyeing since February for 50% off on a lightening deal, so I got 2 sets of those for our upcoming trip.

TurboTax 2015 was $10 off today, so I went ahead and got that.

Also found a killer deal on a Pacsafe bag that's designed to hold larger cameras in addition to other stuff.  For some reason it was $35, when the exact same bag was selling in a different color for $125.  The sale color was slate grey, which was totally fine for us and gender neutral. It was crazy.  Anyway, I bought two, planning on keeping one and giving one to my parents for Christmas because they have committed to taking a trip with us next summer!  I was thrilled to find that deal, because H and I had already decided to get them a Pacsafe bag for Christmas, and we were expecting to spend around $100.

In the same vein I got an eagle creek hidden pocket for 30% off that I'm going to give to my dad, also for our trip next summer.

Finally, H ordered some collapsible, over-the-ear headphones for $6.

Altogether we spent $414 for everything, including the BB shirts.  And I got 10% back on the Amazon purchases with the Chase Freedom card.

Woohoo!!!  Forgot to consider that part--I get 10% back on the Kohl's purchases and I think 1-3% on everything else.
  • We are being minimal with shopping this year - our budget for family and DD is $300 total.  I just bought my mom a pair of earrings online that she wants and saved $8.  Saved $35 online at Macys for a pair of leather gloves my dad wants.  Using ebates for every online purchase I can.

Friday we got a pizza stone for a friend at Kohls for $8, 750 thread count sheets for our King size bed at Macys for $39.  Got a couple camis for myself at forever 21 for $1.50 each.  American Eagle had 40% on Friday and I got myself a sweater and a pair of yoga leggings.

Online over the weekend I got a new yoga bralette from a company on IG with free shipping and I had DH order an infinity strap for my yoga practice for me for xmas.  It was 50% off.

  • I got a few deals, but nothing too special. I wish I would have thought to hit up Target and Old Navy.

VS I bought new bras they were buy one get one 50% off and you could use it on the 2 for $50 bras so I got 4 bras for $75. Not too shabby. Plus free shipping and I'll get 5% back from Discover.

Kohls I got 3 pairs of boots, two jackets and a sweater for $110 plus $30 Kohls cash. One pair of boots is my sister's Christmas gift. Yesterday I used my $30 Kohls cash towards a new comforter set, so I ended up getting that for $60!

  • We only went to home deport to get Christmas lights for the outside of the house but I don't feel like it was a great deal for them.

BF was a bust.  Mom and I got $10 and $5 off coupons at Kohl's so we went there.  It was too picked over from Thursday shoppers so none of the stuff I was interested in was available.  I ended up getting a thermal for $2.50.

Cyber Monday was a huge win.  Free shipping on everything!  I shopped three places:
-Running shoes for $30 from the sporting goods store
-Regular personal care stuff from Target at a savings of over 30%.  This is for stuff that doesn't really go on sale.  It was a big savings so I got a 9 month supply of one item.
-A cat necktie at 50% off ($2.50) so my niece and nephews can make their cat look like business cat.  I am going to add it to the present pile with a tag that says To: Morris Cat   From: Suzie Dog

We were on vacation during Black Friday, but even if we weren't, my sleep and sanity are more valuable than the in-store deals you can usually find online at any time.

On Cyber Monday, I did buy a new pair of running shoes and two new bras at Nordstrom both for over 65% off, which is pretty good for Nordstrom! (Plus 6% back through ebates.com) I also tried to pick up some new Clarisonic brush heads but their website crashed due to high traffic - so I may check back closer to Christmas.

I don't think I've ever quoted myself before, lol.  But here is my update from above:

    • So many good deals on appliances, it was hard for me to pass them up, but it's just still way better to buy used.  In fact, I bought a fridge for $290 from CL.  It's only 2 months old and is still under warranty, but the person selling was unexpectedly moving.  I have all the paperwork and everything.  Score!  That's for the new duplex.
    • Bought a white epoxy spray to spruce up the existing fridge in my "next door" rental unit.  It just doesn't make sense to replace something that works fine because it is a little banged up.  It doesn't seem to have ever been a deal breaker for potential tenants.
    • Found a camera at Best Buy that I think will be perfect, but it wasn't on any special sale over the past weekend.  I'm receiving a Best Buy gift card on Saturday so I am waiting until then to order the camera.
    • My H has been wanting to get extra batteries for his Ryobi tools.  They are normally $49 for one, but were on sale at HD yesterday for $49 for TWO.  He also bought a drill set that makes holes and a set of his favorite screwdrivers.  The drill set was half off and the screwdrivers were on clearance.
  • I didn't get anyting black friday, but did some cyber monday shopping.  I got a new 3-in-1 jacket, snow pants, gloves, and ear muffs for myself for $140 from lands end (50% off).  I got my husband a down jacket ($39) from lands end, our dog a waterproof on the outside/fleece on the inside jacket (not sure if she will need it but for $14 I'd like to have it on hand, I don't know how she will handle the winter), my husband a new bathrobe ($40 and will last him ~3 years of everyday use), my mom new slippers ($14), and two work shirts for myself ($21 each).  I got all the outwear 50% off and other stuff for 40% off with free shipping. Plus there is a brick and mortar store around the corner from me, so I can make easy returns/exchanges if needed.
  • I didn't go shopping on Black Friday but I did get a great Cyber Monday deal. My DS needs shoes and I got $20 sneakers from Payless for $7! Shipping was free because I will pick up in store.
  • Black Friday we went to Lowes to look at dishwashers and we picked up some christmas lights on  is all - but they were on sale so i guess it was a win. And I got DH convinced to buy a new dishwasher!! So thats going to be our one big purchase! And we decided to use some leftover money from my Grandma's inheritance on it so it won't hurt our budget! Its originally 599 on sale for 399.
    Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker
  • We refrained for the most part. I'd already gotten most of the things I was planning to get my kids for Christmas, and the last toy I wanted to get them wasn't even on sale. So I just got DD1 some jeans a hoodie from H&M. But Babies R US emailed me to say they missed some items that should have been on my registry for a deal they were running before DD2 was born, so they gave me a $12 gift card!
