If you are talking about the 5498, you don't need that to file. You can get the IRA value from the end of the year from your year end statement. I usually make my IRA contribution in the beginning of the next year and get my 5498 in early summer. But I don't have amend my return either. That scenario only applies if you are making contributions and taking no distributions.
This.  We've never waited on any forms to file, though we contribute the same amount monthly to hit the max by calendar year end.  If we stretched it into the Spring, I might consider waiting...

We didn't actually wait for the ROTH Ira forms to file. Wells Fargo (who prints my organization's W2's) screwed up three times and had to issue corrected W2's. So we just got those on Friday.

  • I didn't wait for my IRA forms to file.  I contributed $4000 in 2015 & put another $1500 towards my 2015 IRA in January.  As soon as I had it in writing from the office that handles my IRA "we have deposited your check and applied it to your 2015 IRA" i decided that was good enough for me to file.
