What will be on your Christmas list?

Re: What will be on your Christmas list?

  • We don't really buy much for each other...usually just $50. We would both rather save that money for something in the house. This hear I just might ask for a book and the promise he will get to some of the to do projects on our list.

I am am a practical gift kind of girl. I keep asking for lowes and Home Depot gift cards from my in laws but I have yet to get it. I can't get them to understand I would rather buy a can of paint than have another sweater.

  • I haven't even thought about it honestly.  I will do so in November.  Last year I got lots of yoga stuff - wheel, mat, mat bag, infinity strap.  I saw last night there is a subscription that comes every month in your mail - basically yoga in a box filled with yoga stuff.  That would be kinda cool.  Otherwise I need some more bath towels, kitchen towels, and some bed sheets.
  • We are pretty lame. We don't really do christmas lists and usually just buy each other one gift each. My mom always buys us things (even though I tell her not to) like clothing, shoes or gift cards. DH's mom usually gives us christmas gifts in April (after she gets her tax return). We will usually buy gift cards for family members.

We really don't "need" anything and are trying to focus on building up wealth/investments. So our spending on physical items is pretty low. We also plan to book a vacation for March (last one before having a child), so we are saving for that instead of buying gifts.

  • Jeez, I had the hardest time trying to log back in to post. Finally figured out the trick of clicking on a reply to post then logging in from there.

Anyway, FI and I probably won't be getting anything for each other this year. DS is due on Christmas Eve, so I think that will be enough of a gift. I am planning on asking my mom for a housekeeper to come a few times. Really, anything to make my life simpler while adjusting to caring for 3 kids 3 and under.

I don't think we're really getting the kids many presents this year either. They got a ton of toys from family last year, and we just don't have the room for it. I've already picked up a "main" gift for each of them, and I think I'll just get a couple books on top of that.
  • My ILs are talking about not exchanging this year.  If that sticks then I won't need to make a list since I don't exchange with H or my family.  H's aunt will probably want to buy me something so I'll go with a Cheesecake Factory gift card again on my list to her.  There is a CF by my work so it can be a nice splurge for lunch.

I prefer to get gift cards to local businesses but that seems to be a little difficult for OOS relatives.

My lists are usually super practical and have included things like a huge bag of almonds that I like to snack on at work and ILs can easily buy with their Sam's membership...which is good for us since we don't have a club membership.

Amazon can be a good place to find that kind of thing.  I've also noticed there have suddenly been big websites popping up that are essentially warehouse shopping, though without perishable items.  Like Boxed.com and Jet.com (I think that's the name).  I've checked them out and personally didn't think they were very useful because I already go to a warehouse club about 2x/month.  But, if I didn't have a club membership, could see ordering from websites like that.

Thanks for the tip.  I'll have to check out those sites.
I'm actually thinking of just switching to Aldi for almonds.  The freshness on the Sam's almonds is a little meh.

I see Aldi has gift cards now.  Maybe I'll ask OOS aunt for an Aldi gift card.....it probably doesn't get more practical than that...but I would get enjoyment out of treating myself to some snacks or some of their non-food special buys like the rain boots I got earlier this year.

I should have added.  Those two websites I checked out basically sold many of the exact same items in bulk for the same prices that I find at Costco and Sam's.

Yes, I pathetically have a membership at both Costco and Sam's, lol.  Costco is super convenient, location-wise.  But I scored a $10 Sam's membership with a Living Social deal.  In my area, they have bigger stores and a few items I buy that Costco doesn't carry.

We have both.  Originally had a Sams Club membership.  Then my new employer pays for a wholesale club membership as part of their benefits package.  So we had them pay for Costco vs just using it to cover our Sams membership.  We're going to be in trouble when I change employeers.
