Where are you at in your TTC journey?
-In the TWW of our first cycle (kind of by accident). Currently, 8 or 9 DPO.

    Any testing coming up?
-Haven't decided, but probably November 4 or 5.

Anything good or bad happening? (TTC wise or just in life..)
-I think I have the flu, I threw up this morning and have been queasy all day. Not a great feeling.

FFC/AW of the Week (no rules): Went to a party this weekend. There were 2 babies there and our friends announced their pregnancy. Not helping with the impatience of wanting to just test to see the result...

  • Where are you at in your TTC journey? cycle 5 10DPO

Any testing coming up? nope :(  light spotting showed up yesterday afternoon

Anything good or bad happening? (TTC wise or just in life..)  I'm having a really hard time right now with not getting pregnant and not knowing if something is wrong with my body.  I put a call into my OB's nurse today inquiring about the next steps.  OB originally told me to try 6 months before further testing.  I think I would feel better if I had my hormones tested.  I'm going to see if I can go ahead and do that this month.  I cried to DH this morning because I'm now thinking my 3-5 days spotting each month may be affecting my LP.  I'm just going BSC right now I guess.  I need a mental break I think.

FFC/AW of the Week (no rules):  Nothing this week that I can think other than the above.

  • Can I still play even though we aren't TTC?

We have our adoption home study this weekend and are frantically working on the documents needed to move forward with all of this (FBI background clearances, formal parenting training, writing our Dear Birth Mother letter, getting pictures together and organized, etc).  It is a lot of work, but we should be live - meaning, start being shown to birth mothers - by Christmas.  Then, it is just a waiting game until someone decides that we're awesome.  :)  I'm really excited but I'm not one of the most patient people in the world, and this can be a long process... so...

I'm not sure when or how or if we should tell family.  Still trying to figure that one out.

  • @vlagrl35 This may or may not help, but I spotted from 7DPO until AF came almost every cycle.  This past one I  added in baby aspirin and now we have a sticky baby.  It may be worth a shot or something to ask your OB about.  I had also been taking a Bcomplex as well.

    @ilovewhitevinotoo So exciting!

@lfk2013 Thank you for asking.  All is good. Had an appointment yesterday and the midwife couldn't find the heartbeat so she used the handheld ultrasound machine and we were able to see the heart fluttering away and baby was evening moving around.  We both sighed in relief.
I'm still spotting though and that's not helping.  The day of our first appointment I was bleeding to the point of needing a pad, so we went in expecting to hear the worst.  They did find a blood clot as well as a subchorionic hemorrhage.  So I will continue to have bleeding until those correct themselves.  In the meantime it's just making my PGAL brain go crazy.
We still haven't told parents and I'll be 10 weeks on Saturday.  With DD's pregnancy we told around 5 weeks.  This time I think we might continue to hold out until Thanksgiving.  H is ready to tell but I am not.  My PGAL brain kicks in too much.

  • @brij2006- that does help.  I was obsessing yesterday thinking something was wrong with my LP.  I just need to take a chill pill I think.  Congrats on your pregnancy. Sorry your still spotting.  That's always unsettling.  I only spotted once for a few days in the first tri with DD and I freaked out so bad.
  • I'm just sitting over here freaking out over every little cramp and twinge in my TWW after our first IVF with ICSI cycle. Another 8 days until my beta! I may lose my mind before then.......
  • @LillibetteV Are you going to test at home before your beta?

  • @brij2006 absolutely!! DH was heartbroken at the thought that I'd find out without him if the doc called me at work with the blood test results. I'm going to try and hold out until that morning, but the HCG from the trigger shot should be out of my system by Saturday at the latest so I might cave and test earlier. He wants it just as badly as I do and after 2 years there is no need to make him wait so I can prep some cutesy surprise lol. After my IUI that failed he literally wouldn't even let me pee alone - he was sitting on the tub waiting for me hahahaha
  • Hahaha @LillibetteVthat's funny.
Our last CP I kept it a secret from H for 2 days.  I wanted the test to be darker before I told him.  I was surprised that he was actually sad I kept it from him for 2 days.
So this last time he knew I was testing and I just handed him the test after I saw the results. Nothing cute at all, but he wanted to find out the same time I did so I tested on a weekend.

  • GL! @LillibetteV - I know DH wants to be around when I pee next time.  So I stashed away the OPKs and thermometer and already feeling better and weight lifted off my shoulders when my OB nurse called me to talk about all the blood draws and SA.  I told her I can wait until December but she said my OB went ahead and gave her the go ahead.  Now I"m all stressed again.  I guess it will feel good to make sure I'm all ok from the results.  She mentioned HSG and sometimes its not covered by insurance and can cost 1k so I will want to go ahead and call blue cross about that.  No way am I spending that much money for an HSG.
  • @vlagrl35  I did the HSG and the tech told me that sometimes even if they don't see a blockage there was a small one that the test actually cleared and women get pregnant the following cycle. I let that get my hopes WAY too high lol. We're lucky that our infertility issues are covered, but the co-pays for specialists, outpatient procedures, and medications has still added up to close to $2,000 for us so far. We also had to pay about $300 towards our deductible to freeze some of DH's swimmers as a back-up (which we didn't need - we got a good sample on egg retrieval day!). I can't imagine how much worse this all is if you have to pay out of pocket!

  • @LillibetteV yes the nurse mentioned that to me but I figured that it might not always work and whose to say my tubes are blocked anyways.  Yes we'd have to pay for it all out of pocket if we needed IF treatments.  We can't afford that.  I don't think we need it but that's just positive brain working now.
  • @vlagrl35 - Your Statement of Benefits with BC/BS should say what is/is not covered. I was able to find mine online through my provider (BC/BS).

Your doc is at Shawnee Mission Med, right?  That's where I had my HSG.  Super quick procedure and the radiology techs were super nice.  It took more time to fill out the paperwork.    Not cheap though.

  • @als1982 yes she is at shawnee mission medical.  Yeah the money part scares me especially if it's not covered.  It wouldn't be something I would invest in right now.  If it is covered then we would only owe 10% since i've already met my first deductible.  The customer service rep was very vague when I called a couple days ago about testing.  we are going into the blue cross office tomorrow to enroll for 2017 plans maybe I can ask them.
  • Erg, I couldn't help myself and tested today at 10 dpo. It was a clear BFN. Hoping it was just too early, but we will see. I plan to re-test on November 5. I think AF is due November 7 or 8, but not sure since I haven't had a period in over a year (due to BC). So it's just a waiting game at this point.

  • Thanks, @bmo88... I try to post every Monday, but it's been hard to keep up with everything going on with me right now.

We are meeting with DE IVF coordinator and H has baseline SA scheduled next week. We will get the timeline, but I've already been called by pharmacy to pay for some of donor's meds. :P

We are still in process of moving, but in waiting game because seller has a bunch of electrical work to get done. Not sure how much longer that's going to take, but our financing is good to go. Glad to have that stress taken care of at least.

H has decided to switch careers... again...  :# Now, he's going to be a middle school science teacher. Truthfully, I think this is the best path for him, but I wish he would have listened to me last year when I suggested this. I guess he just had to see for himself that working in a blue collar job wasn't going to work out for him. This change means more classes and exams, but he'll also be volunteering in the classroom so he has a good idea of what he's getting into next Fall.

Finally, this weekend is a state-wide conference that I have been leading the planning for. It's the first time my professional organization has done something like this, and we have 55 people registered. I'm nervous and hope it all goes well! Can't wait for Saturday night to be here though! I'll be crashing at home with a nice big glass of wine.

  • @bmo88- sorry about the BFN but you never know.  With DD I didn't get a positive until I was 4 weeks pregnant.  I have no idea how many DPO that is but a lot lol.  I'm on day 4 of pre AF spotting which is why I never pee test because I know if its coming.  I"m thinking I may start AF tomorrow which means I can get my blood test on CD3 - monday or tuesday.
  • I talked to blue cross today and my OB needs to submit a pre determination for the HSG test whatever that means.  I do want to make sure it would be covered so I called the OB and left message with nurse.  Now I"m paranoid the blood tests won't be covered so I've also asked her the CPT codes for those.  If blood tests are not that expensive and if the OB give us a discount for paying out of pocket then I will go ahead and get them.  I'm also now worried the SA won't be covered so I need a code from her on that as well.
  • @vlagrl35 Not sure if this will ease your mind at all, but all of my CD3 bloodwork was covered by insurance even though infertility was not.  They also covered the ultrasound to find the cysts and diagnose PCOS.  My OB had to code it as ammhenoriah (sp?) in order for it to be, but it worked.
We were also able to do a round of Clomid with the OB.  The only thing that wasn't covered was the Clomid itself, but I believe it was $20.

Just be sure to ask the OB about all of the testing they do before they move forward with any treatment, then if they do treatment, what all monitoring they do.
I learned the hard way that our OB didn't do much monitoring with Clomid and that was not the right way.  Not to scare you, but he came in at CD21 to confirm I did ovulate (my chart showed me it anyways), then asked us our thoughts about selective reduction just in case.  We were not very happy.
A lot of OB's will hand out Clomid like it's candy.  So definitely do some research beforehand on the proper protocol while taking it.

  • thanks for the info @brij2006 - I'm hoping I don't need any kind of IF treatment mainly because I know it won't be covered.  We were able to conceive DD so easily I'm hoping there aren't any issues with either of us and it's just not the right time for #2 yet.  I would like to get the blood tests just to give me peace of mind.  My OBs office closes early on Fridays but I did leave her a VM earlier.  Probably won't hear back till monday.  I've been spotting very lightly for 4 days now.  Probably start AF Saturday or Sunday which would make CD 3 Tues or Wens next week.  Hopefully I can get all this figured out by then.  Here I thought November would be less stressful for me on the TTC end but here we are lol I"m still having to keep track of cycle days.
  • @vlagrl35 I would most definitely mention to your OB about the spotting prior to AF.  That was pretty much every cycle for me and my OB was able to give me some non-evasive over the counter options to try and correct it.

  • @brij2006 well I'm feeling really defeated right now.  Heard back from nurse and she spoke to BC/BS and said we have zero IF coverage and so the blood tests may not even be covered she will go ahead and put a pre determination letter to them and see if they can cover it.  I told her I would want that in writing from them that it's covered if they do.  Otherwise we can't afford even the CD 3 blood test - its around $1k.  WTF?  I just spend 5 minutes crying in the bathroom.  I'm so over this shit.  I can't handle it.  I can't handle not knowing if something is wrong with me, if I have low Progesterone or a blocked tube or if DH has low semen.  All I know is that I do ovulate - it's been proven to me thru OPKs and 1 month of temping.  Thanks for the info about the pre AF spotting - it helps.  I will ask the nurse about it on Monday.  I'm just leaving it up to god at this point.  If we are meant to only have 1 kid so be it.
  • @vlagrl35 ugh I'm sorry you have to deal with this! At least if the doc gets a pre-authorization from the insurance you won't have any surprise bills. Even with mine being covered we had to do a bunch of insurance bullshit first (which...they actually denied me in error which caused a delay in getting meds scripts, which then meant I had to spend 6 hours on the phone with CVS Caremark on a Saturday trying to get them to give me an override to go to another specialty pharmacy to get the med I needed to start on Sunday so that we wouldn't have to wait another entire month because it was the only one in Massachusetts that was open and carried it!)

And this is why I hate health insurers. Have you considered an at-home SA for hubs? Obviously not as good as a doctor but for $40 might give you some peace of mind.
  • @LillibetteV I've never heard of at home SA tests?  Where do you get it?  I remembered my Chiro does blood tests and I called and they can test progestrone.  I remember it being pretty affordable.  I can get the cost  from the receptionist on Monday.
  • @vlagrl35 we ordered one off Amazon and then never used it because he kept putting it off and then I sent him to go get a real one lol.

My update for the week is that we are cautiously optimistic! My blood test isn't until Thursday, but I've taken a FRER the past three mornings and they've all been positive! And progressively darker (but still not as dark as the control line). GAH!!!!!!!!!
  • @LillibetteV YAY!!! Congratulations!

  • @brij2006 thanks!! I still can't believe this might actually be happening. And I probably won't really even believe it until I hear a heartbeat in a few weeks. I called the clinic today to tell them and see if we should move the beta and they said to just keep doing my meds and stick with Thursday - but she did confirm that I waited long enough to not pick up any HCG trigger remnants and that I was in the clear to get excited for now hahahaha. I'll be happy to get these annoying sticky estrogen patches off of me in a couple days, but the PIO shots to the butt will continue for another 6 weeks :(
